the beautiful building the well kept grounds the decor the calm atmosphere the attentive, discreet, polite, mannerly, cheerful, smartly dressed, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, professional staff the food the wines the soft classical music in the background the room, it had everything you might need even a brolly! the peacocks the shower the weather (beautiful sunny days during our weekend stay) having all the peace of a country hotel in the middle of the city and with the airport so close by

The staff made the stay, they were wonderful and couldn't help us enough. We arrived on Wednesday for my birthday and all the staff we amazing. The gardens were beautiful, and the design of the hotel was lovely.

We thought although being very "grand" and Georgian/modern take, the one thing that let it down was the bathroom. I just felt it could be more up to date- regardless of this being a period hotel. It just didnt work really, was disappointed there wasn't a lovely big shower or bath. Just missing something. The receptionist on our check out was very portentous, she was the only person we did not like- her attitude was very stuck up and leaving the hotel really left a sour taste in my mouth, she took ages to do our checkout. Such a shame because Ross (I think) and all the guys had just been so lovely to us.

We were treated like royalty. There was always a member of staff ready to help in any circumstance.

Everything. this was a nostalgic trip as we stayed here 29 years ago. It has improved immensely. The attention to detail was second-to-none and the atmosphere, decor, staff, food,friendliness couldn't have been better. We will definitely return soon.

The suite we booked (Allan Ramsay) was truly luxurious and very comfortable. Staff were as usual very friendly and extremely helpful. Great hotel and we will be back in the future.

Our starters were luke warm ( we could have sent back but didn't). Our vintage port came with lots of sediment at the bottom of the glass (we sent back and they replaced with fresh port).

The room was gorgeous, sheer luxury. The staff were attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The surroundings were beautiful, food was fantastic, can't wait to go back.

The hotel itself is magnificent. The room was in a league of it's own with spectacularly upholstered walls. The staff couldn't have been better, really trying to look after the guests. One of a kind. And even with the negatives I raised I would go back.

The evening meal in the restaurant was beautiful and tasty but the portions were so small that as soon as the starter arrived (the menu made it sound like you were going to get a plateful of food) I realised I was going to leave hungry, which indeed I did. That and the prices were astronomical. I felt like I had been mugged!. The only other issue with the hotel was that the pillows were perhaps the most uncomfortable I've ever tried to sleep on.

Very busy with non residents so close to Christmas, making it difficult to find room to sit in the cosy lounges.

The " old worldy" atmosphere and an amazing feeling of secrecy about the place I found very relaxing. The staff were second to none, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. An amazing place for a little R and R or a wonderful retreat after a hard days shopping.

It is pure luxury, a fantastic venue with great staff, rooms and food. I took my girlfriend here to stay and proposed to her. The staff were extremely helpful and made this a truly memorable stay.

It is certainly a luxurious hotel with a character of its own. The staff were particulary considerate and helpful - the receptionist was a very cheerful lass made you feel welcome. Staff were around and anxious to take your luggage or answer any questions. The decor and ambiance made you feel you were in a royal palace We were with the Youth for Scotland movement and enjoyed a lovely dinner well prepared and delightfully served fantastic!

It was an amazing Edinburgh experience because of Prestonfield Hotel. We highly recomend the owner suit and tasting the traditional dishes.

Having a zen eco-home, you can imagine the contrast to the oh-so-opulant Prestonfield house. I was prepared to be overwhelmed by heavy overstuffed grandeur and staidness. Instead we were thoroughly delighted in every way. Make no mistake about it Prestonfield is ott in it's grandeur with it's heavy black/claret velvet draperies and wine, black and gold fabric wall coverings, with it's high quality reproduction furniture (that blends elegantly with the genuine antiques) and somber portraits on the walls. With it's black and gold gilded mirrors and massive 4 poster beds....well you get the picture. A sort of northern Cliveden --But bizarrely, it worked!!!!!!!! There was such a frankness about it's willingness to be just what it is -- utterly lavish in every way-- that I felt like I was on a stage of an overdone period drama and found I was frequently chuckling.. But the staff is what made it for us. They were fantastic--nothing to difficult, always ready to go the extra mile, friendly, unpretentious, smart...I could wax on and on. Given that I travel 44 weeks in a year staying at 4 and 5 stars around the world weekly, I am jaded when it comes to service and quality. But the Prestonfield house is perfect in every way, from sumptuous beds and yummy bed linens, to pristine bathrooms, to lavish surroundings, to young hip staff--I would travel to Edinburgh just to stay there! Oh one more thing--the food--stunning, breakfast sumptuous and their drawing rooms cozy and welcoming.

Can they duplicate their staff elsewhere--the hospitality industry really could learn a thing or 2 from Presotnfield House.!

The most fabulous luxurious country house, staff really friendly whilst maintaining a professional approach. Couldn't have asked for more cant wait to go back. A real touch of class and high standards.

We have found prestonfield House so amazing we have now stayed 3 times in the past month, The gracious and tastefully restored house is a hidden gem surrounded by beautiful gardens and a golf course, The staff are fantastic always helpful and friendly and the rooms are so romantic. We have to say a huge thanks to jenny for upgrading us to the Lord Provost suite which was lovely words cant describe how good this suite is. We made a reservation for rhubard and found that experience exceptional the scallops were magical. Prestonfield for us is simply stunning.

This hotel is just to die for. The rooms are excellent the service is second to none and the whole ambiance is out of this world and the food is fantastic. The best breakfast ever. Great afternoon tea. We have stayed in the sister hotel The Whitchery in Edinburgh which is also excellent but the staff at Prestonfields are just the best and they make you feel very welcome. The great thing about this hotel is that they will let you take your dog which we only found out on our last visit. We will be back without a doubt.

Unbelievable. Valets in kilts. Many Sitting rooms to relax in. Opulent. In the middle of town with 20 acres of parks. Peacocks and highland cows! Stay there. Do it! You will feel like you are an aristocrat in a manor house.

I booked bed and breakfast under the impression that I could book a table for dinner on arrival. I then discovered that this was not possible due to the popularity of Rhubarb restaurant. The staff were excellent though and managed to find us a table. Thank you again.

Un vrai rêve, une ambiance romantique extraordinaire. Nous avions la suite Alan Ramsay, merveilleuse. L'afternoon tea près de la cheminée était merveilleux, le restaurant parfait. Le personnel était adorable. Un grand souvenir dans un manoir comme on les imagine en Ecosse.
