The staff are pleasant and helpful. The Hotel looks impressive when approaching it - nice gardens and a spacious carpark. The lounge, reception are and dining areas are pleasant - plenty of seats, light and bright and the decor is in keeping with the design of the building. The breakfast was fine - enough choice to meet the requirements of diners. We did not pay much for an overnight stay including breakfast so feel we did get value for money. The room was offered as a double room but in all fairness it was only just adequate for two people. The room is really for a single room which has had a double (rather small double!) bed put in it. To be fair we did ask if there was any chance of an upgrade and were offered one (an extra cost would be involved) but as we had settled in and were only staying for one night then we did not accept the upgrade. However, if you are offered rooms on the 4th floor, check them out first before you accept - they are very small. Also - a small point - the valance on the bed was very creased - looked as though it had not been ironed after laundering - just gave a neglected look to the room.

Good location. Close to excellent shopping facilities. Convenient rail link for Liverpool. Friendly and efficient staff. Full english breakfast, dining room well organised. The bar prices were very reasonable and the lounge areas are clean and spacious. The check in was efficient. Plentiful hot water with a good shower in the bathroom. Secure car parking. First impression with a lounge and foyer full of wheelchairs and quite elderly guests was of a genteel residential home. We are in our fifties and not ageist and the older guests were perfectly entitled to be there with their equipment. The boxing in around the pipes in the bathroom was damaged and tatty and although the bathroom was clean it let it down visually. I could not open a window in the room and it was hot at night. The mattress was so uncomfortable the springs were sticking in me so bad that I had to put the pillows over them. Consequently did not sleep much.

Convenient for the shops, and the food was quite good, the place was rather old fashioned, and too reliant on the coach parties. When we arrived at the hotel we were allocated a room on the 4th floor which was in the roof space with a window looking ontoa slate roof! After a visit to the reception we were relocated in a better room on the 3rd floor. However the fact that we were not given this room to start with reflects badly on the way we were treated. We booked on the 19th of August for two nights the 20th and 21st .The hotel had plenty of vacanct rooms so why do they try to palm senior guests off with very inferior rooms.. We will not be returning to this Hotel!

The location was excellent and the rooms were very spacious. Good value breakfast -nice food and decent bar prices. Room was shabby, tired rundown and could have been cleaner. The hotel was mostly occupied by elderly people and therefore not much in the way of entertainment. Our room was very noisy -next to the back entrance of kitchen and rooms were too hot. Floorboards very squeaky.

The hotel is very tired - in need of a revamp. I felt we were given the worst rooms at the top of the hotel. The wi-fi was intermittent - very frustrating. Car parking was not free - £2 per night - disgraceful. there was a £2 charge for using a credit/debit card - this does not appear anywhere in their literature or on the website!

The location of the hotel which I think is very good. The staff are very obliging and friendly. My husband and myself could not fault the food. The fact that although you are residents you have to pay £2 per day parking fee.

This is a good standard hotel in an excellent location. The service and food was excellent, it is possible to get fed at more or less any time of day. The rooms, although clean and tidy, could possibly do with a bit of modernisation. The only thing I didn't like was that there is a £2 per day car parking charge, which I don't think was mentioned on the web page.

Open fires as you enter giving a cosy feel.check-in was very smooth and over within a minute the corridor and our room were quite warm. The room was clean and reasonably furnished, the bathroom was very clean with high pressure shower over the bath. The breakfast is quite special ,completely self service except for tea and coffee, with cereals, fruit with yoghurt or porrige, followed by "a full English"then toast and preserves.Could not fault it. No-one on reception to welcome guests as they arrive, could not check-in till 3pm or after,we chose after.Whilst we loved the open fires in reception and in the lounge, these areas were not warm enough for just sitting. There did not appear to be any central heating in these areas or in the bar. There were over 200 guests who were there for a "Country" weekend.they were catered for quite rightly by the hotel in the ballroom where they enjoyed bb/ed and entertainment day and night. We were not allowed in; so our entertainment was zero. The hotel does provide caberet now and again according to the posters in reception, you can watch one of these "tribute" acts at a cost of £20 per person. I was lucky enough to print out the" facilities" of the hotel, where it clearly states "parking is free".it seems everyone but me paid £2 per night to park in the car- park of their own hotel !!!

Make no mistake, the "Prince of Wales"is an old victorian hotel as you would guess from the outside. Its main clientel is older folk & is well geared up for them with lift/stairlift aswell as large staircase.Having said that we were not the only ones with small children there & they had no problem accomodating us.Our suite was large/airy & we were made to feel very welcome. The food was good & reasonably priced as was the bar! Entertainment left something to be desired again for the older folk but we were a very short walk from the shopping, pubs & arcades. We definately enjoyed our stay & would so again. The weather! Could have been some entertainment for younger people for when the weather is inclement.Ok for weekend stay but as I said more set up for elderly people.Have already recomended to my 74yr old mother.

We have stayed at the prince of wales before and never had a problem the staff seem pleasant and welcoming the hotel is very clean and tidy. I asked for nice view of lord street and was put at the back of the hotel facing a wall. The room was cold no heating working and I know there where two weddings onbut the noise and people running around above us was a nightmare none of us got any sleep also everything running out at breakfast time.

Stayed many times after booking through booking.com but for some reason on this occasion I was booked into a double room instead of a twin which caused a problem as the hotel was almost full. Sorted in the end after seeing the manager. I also put a request in for specific room ie. either 200 or 300 which are both twin rooms when booking, also again prior to going so I couldnt see what the confusion was. Nevertheless it was ok in the end. In the room finally allocated the beds left a lot to be desired as the mattresses had definitely gone in the middle. Room 228 ; also noticed they have cut down on toiletries given, we had to share soap. Also had to ask for coffee sachets as only one each was given.

We liked that we where near to Liverpool, but yet, far away not to feel you were in a busy town. Also the hotel was right in the centre of the main shopping street in Southport. That you had to pay for parking your car in the hotel grounds over night. This was the first hotel that we have ever had to pay for parking a car while staying at the hotel.

Good location and fair car parking tariff. The room I chose was the 'executive double room' when we actually arrived this did not live in up the description. The room was far too small for two people to comfortably stay. Then we noticed the window was falling apart and the lock had completely fallen off, which means the window could be opened, not a reassuring thought when you are on the ground floor! We requested a room transfer, which the hotel staff honored without any hesitation, and we were placed in a nicer room!! This was after they tried to charge us double the price for the room! Wasn't the most welcoming of arrivals...note to staff check your tariffs!

The architecture. The hotel is geared for tours and not the individual guest. Room service is poor because you cannot charge to your hotel bill and if you don't have cash you have to go back downstairs to pay for the roomservice at the bar, so really no point in having room service. Staff however are friendly and try to be as helpful as possible.
