breakfast was fantastic, huge selection and delicious, bug huge window with great view and they park your car for you!
got scolded in the shower as temperature gauge was wrong, walls and window paper thin so you don't get much sleep.
Excellent location, just 7 minutes walk from railway station, center of the town. Nice antient building, new comformable bathroom. Small gym.
It was very noisy: as building is quite old, there is no real noise isolation. You can hear every move of your neighbours. Poor breakfast: almost no choice. Not a single smile from a staff, but still if you ask something: they do it without problem. No tread working in the gym, but still good to have it at all.
Lovely rickety hotel, breakfast was also lovely, and staff were very polite.
The location, the friendly and helpful staff and the excellent breakfast.
Hotel bedroom too warm.
On my arrival I requested that I may see the room before I checked in, where Charlotte (Head of Housekeeping) showed me the room, which I was not really happy with and so proceed to show me a few more without any hesitation , when I chose the room she brought me to the desk where the Proprietor Mike Matthews checked me in to the room I decided to stay in without any problems whatso ever. I loved all the staff, who were all very oblighing and helpful, and I loved the atmosphere of the hotel and the location is excellent. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, and I had a fab new ensuite. Breakfast was lovely and the serving staff very efficient.
Generally I would never stay in a 3 star hotel, however, this 3 star is exceptional and I have nothing negative to say about it. As 3 star Hotels go, this is probably superior.
The location was great and the freshly cooked haddock with a poached egg at breakfast was truly delicious. The sauna was good.
Having to wait 30 mins for the sauna to be switched on, finding both the steam shower and the jacuzzi broken.
The staff were exemplary in every respect. The owner was always around and a more querky hotel you cannot find. Full of character.
Nothing - possibly the furniture in the bar is a little "tired".
Great location; friendly staff; nice room that looked & felt as if it had been recently refurbished with a smart bathroom. I had a room at the back - so it was nice & quiet, too - despite the central location. Valet parking a bonus.
My sat-nav couldn't locate the hotel - but that could be me being obtuse - so I drove around the centre of Shrewsbury a couple of times before I located the Prince Rupert. It was pouring with rain & the traffic was dreadful - these are just excuses for my poor navigation, however!
Character of the property and it's location
Paper thin walls, you could hear every word spoken in adjoining rooms. Which then caused a bit of an issue when the people in the room next door decided to put their TV on very loud at 6 am on Sunday morning.
Location Valet parking Breakfast
Confusing to get to by car
Friendly staff Breakfast - lovely haddock & poached egg Central location Comfy bed
dribble of a shower lighting - one bedside light just flickered
the historical feel and the excellent staff attitude
Slightly gloomy dining area
From the offer of a glass of sherry at check-in to the beautifully presented, delicious evening meal and perfectly cooked eggs at breakfast, I enjoyed my stay in this most civilised of hotels. The staff were attentive and polite at all times. The situation of the hotel in the centre of what is a delightful town, could not be bettered.
Apart from being a little hard to find, situated as it is amongst the narrow streets of the old part of town, I'm hard pressed to find anything at all! The hotel is quaint and full of character so if you really want chic and modern this is not the hotel for you but if you prefer to stay somewhere with a sense of history I cannot recommend the Prince Rupert highly enough!
Hotel position and overall ambience
Poor access to car , but porter service was excellent
Everything except no wifi in the rooms, and the prohibitive cost of wifi in the reception area.
The restricted coverage, and cost of the in-house wifi at £7.90 for 90 minutes. This information is omitted from the hotel's decription of available facilities.
Decor very poor/dated
Food and service quite good. Bedroom and bathroom very clean
Terrible place to drive to; we had to get help from a passer-by, who said it was too difficult to explain, but who very kindly got in the car and showed us there. All a bit dark and dingy
Quaint and historic hotel in a convenient town centre location
Bells from the nearby church on the hour through the night were an irritant and affected sleep
location very good - about a 5 minute uphill walk from station and easy walking distance from many of the tourist spots in the town. Room comfortable. Breakfast included and reasonable quality
Not a major set back for me but might be for some is that Room overlooked the next door pub rear seating area
very small room room in bad repair no wi-fi very expensive bar missing facilities
Hotel was dated although our room was excellent
Clean and modern bathroom
View from window. Cannot charge anything to room during stay?
Lovely location, with fabulous roof-scales and distant views from our level 3 room. Speedy and intelligent help at reception and breakfast.
I hate lifts, but we needed to use this clunky and claustrophobic example. The bathroom was well appointed as far as equipment goes, but Sir found it very awkward in use. Don't see how else the bits could be arranged, though. Wakeful night through worry, not the bed!
I stayed on two separate occasions and on each of them was in need of a wake up call in order for me to catch train - on neither occasion did the wake up call happen and twice I heard someone else commenting upon the omission
