Tired decor, tiny room, dusty, worn carpets, wafer thin walls, to the point where you can hear a conversation next door.Definately not worth the price.
The room was wonderful. Food Lovely, Staff very pleasant
It's old'y world'y and quaint, non the less the room we stayed had been fully refurbished and the bathroom was to die for!
The meal in Chambers restaurant was over priced and to say the least average.
Brilliant location. Central to everyrhing. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. A relaxing break in a historical hotel.
Lovely historic building.
Some of the reception staff were not particularly welcoming although efficient and polite. Need to improve some of furnishings in room - bedspread worn and kettle was ancient!
The location and ambience of the hotel was outstanding.
The location of our room being next door to a pub which played live music preventing us from going to sleep early since we had early plans the following day. The pillows were very flat and the bed for a couple was too small. There no flannels available.
Valet parking was excellent for £5 - staff were very friendly and efficient.
Just the size of the room
Staff very welcoming. Lovely bowl of home made soup in the bar. Had to leave early in the morning so arranged to have a continental breakfast in the lounge.
breakfast is lovely nice touch with the bucks fizz car valet service excellent
no champagne by the glass where most good hotels serve this was not asked if I wanted a newspaper - facilities were not explained no mini bar in room
Staff were helpful nice and friendly
My room was close to road traffic and there was a loose fitted drain cover and every time a vehicle went by it made me jump out of my sleep which was very light on account of traffic noise, my nerves were on edge and I was feeling rough NOT GOOD at all, I paid for a really bad night!
Staff were very courteous to our needs
Beautiful Royalist hotel with an accentric waiter. Dated features such as oak beams, coat of arms, welcomed with a glass of sherry at reception
The health suite facilities were out of use Lack of material in the hotel room about local attractions, no decent hair dryer, no fridge etc.
A quite place to relax. Staff very helpful. Car was taken to car park and returned all for £5. Rooms had great character as was the hotel. Beds clean and comfortable
Minor thing but need to clean out old used tea and sugar packs.
I was very grateful to have been upgraded in terms of having booked a single room. I have now stayed a few times and would always go back when needing to be in Shrewsbury. Previous single rooms have not always been terrific and last time there was no access to wi-fi in my room, which was somewhat poky.
great location with friendly staff and comfortable beds .
teeny lift was a challenge but hilarious. would be a fab hotel if it was updated
Conveniently located in the heart of Shrewsbury. Valet car parking was excellent and no trouble ro allow us to access our car daily. Good full English breakfast plus buffet.
Warm and cosy feel
New pillows needed I think
Hotel is a five minute walk from the train station and right in the town centre. Quaint building. Had a dual-aspect room with nice of a church and half-timbered buildings. Room seemed to be recently refurbished. Good breakfast.
Common areas were a bit dated and frayed.
The room was very cosy, breakfast was lovely in a beautiful room full of character. Location was superb and we dined in the restaurant around the corner.
The hotel needs an upgrade
Character and location of hotel. Car parking service good. Hotel bistro very good had a lovely breakfast.
Doubled the price with an upgrade only to find an extra room with a settee and television.unable to watch telly in bed. I have paid this price in other hotels and had much better rooms.
Loved looking out onto Main Street and duke of Wellington statue. Ideally located in central Brecon.
Bit worried about way my foot kept sinking into one spot on carpet which made the chair in the corner go up and down. But that's what happens with such old buildings.
The welcome was excellent very friendly staff and a welcoming drink of sherry. The breakfast was also excellent with a good choice of food.
The only downside was that the room was rather cold, as the windows are obviously very old and not double glazed with a draft coming in but otherwise the room was comfortable.
Shower water power is not weak.
The location in town was nice step back in time
The room was small and basic for cost and cleaned properly
