Modern, clean, comfortable, friendly, efficient, good parking, outstanding value This was the first 'Liverpool' hotel offered when we searched the internet. However, whilst the value for money was excellent this is not really a 'Liverpool' hotel being well over 10 miles (and a toll tunnel crossing) from the city. Also, the hotel can be very hard to find, particularly if you arrive from the South. There are, effectively, two Berwick Roads since a new housing development bisects the old Berwick Road and it is not possible to reach the hotel from the South along Berwick Road. This requires a two mile diversion which is not immediately obvious, particularly if one uses an older-style sat nav that searches on address rather than post code. So, if travelling from the South ensure you print out a detailed map or use a post code oriented sat nav. Other than these location issues (which are not really the hotel's fault) the hotel was excellent and fantastic value.

Very friendly staff on reception. Lovely room, very, very comfortable, good car park. Spa excellent. Everywhere clean and tidy. Bar area comfortable. Food very poor value for money and extremely expensive - a starter of 1 fig cut into 4 and 4 slices of mozarella followed by a lamb stew called by a posh name priced at £16.95 and I was still hungry. Husband's not much better - 2 slivers of part cooked sardine and a dried up piece of chicken. Don't have the breakfast a rip off at £13.95 - hardly anything left only cornflakes/tinned grapefruit/bacon, 2 sad eggs and beans - no toast/cold meats/pastries/fresh rolls/yogurt/cheeses/croissant etc as per menu, when we complained told that was all there at 6.30am, we went down 1/2 hour before breakfast finished - I think at that price everything should still be available. Bad service in restaurant too, very slow. Had to ask for rolls & toast. Get your own breakfast somewhere else and don't dine in is my advice. Drinks in the bar very dear too so beware!

Swimming pool was great. Great choice for breakfast. Limited menu on an evening for adults and children. For breakfast the tea and coffee were served by the waitress - would have been easier and more convenenient to have pots on each table. No biscuits in the room to accompany the tea and coffee.

Dog friendly! Gave us a room just near the exit so we could get out for walks easily. Staff friendly and helpful. Good, clean spacious room. Excellent breakfast. Decor a bit jaded in public spaces and dinner not the best if you stray from old favourites, but nothing that would stop me staying again.

Easy rail access to both Liverpool and Chester. Excellent pleasant hard working staff. The trouser press/iron didn't work. The toilet was leaking water into the bowl constantly and could'nt flush. The sauna didnt work on the first night.

Initially I thought that this was a good hotel for the price however, they were understaffed and unprepared for the guests. Bar service was slow and the meal read better than it tasted - overall this is a cheap hotel if all you want is somewhere to rest your head but don't expect a relaxing hideaway

Excellent food, Leisure facilites could do with a freshen up. As could the flat roof area. Not exactly an enamouring view from the room over a roof strewn with rubbish, moss and rusting steel work. Please don't take this the wrong way. The room itself was lovely.

Staff polite and very helpful. Good location and clean, tidy inside & out. Room stylish and comfortable. The view from the room was very poor. Breakfast= No disrespect to the staff in this department but they seemed like busy fools struggled to cope when it got busy showing people to unclean tables, not noticing when food got low or needed replacing. I like to think they were short staffed but that was my experience ( i did find them polite).

They had a wedding on the Saturday and the disco was incredibly loud until about 1am. Also some of the guests smashed some fire alarms and they went off at least twice before 12 the reception said it was a fault and no need to evacuate. They then went off about 3 or 4 times waking us up around 3 am. If it was a real fire getting out would be difficult as when we left before 6am on the Monday the front door is locked orders of the management. There is only one night porter on and we couldn't find him at first when we wanted to put our bags in the car.

After having attended the mercure hotel we found this experience very unsatisfactory, we stayed here due to attending a wedding, firstly we were appointed the wrong room where we walked in on two hotel residents, which was very embarrasing, we were then appointed another room on the opposite end of hotel over looking noisey boilers, the room was so hot we could not sleep with heat and noise, we had no lock on bathroom door, lack of towels, also ordered room service to find they was no hot food, and had to have a third choice of sandwich, last of all the water was so hot we could not get washed without almost burning ourselves, we did not have a pleaseant stay in the mercure unfortunetly,
