Score from 471 reviews Very good
Just over a quarter mile from the very heart of Hull, the train station and the new St. Stephen's shopping center, this modern hotel includes climate-controlled, ventilation-cooled rooms.

Great location Brilliant breakfast Friendly staff
Location; free parking
The telephone wasn't answered when I phoned for directions.
We had special requests in terms of early check in( as we were attending a wedding) and also needed disabled accommodation. Lilly arranged all this for us and also pre booked the taxis we needed to the wedding and back. She could not have been more helpful. Many thanks to her. Lovely food and good selection of wines.
Front Desk staff very helpful and pleasant
Pillow Quality very poor Wi fi not working Noise from station very bad and kept me awake
Clean rooms and friendly receptionist staff as well as comfortable beds
Rooms and hotel could perhaps do with a minor refurb. My room was near a nightclub that was playing music until 2am on a Wednesday night resulting ina poor nights sleep. Also the room was freezing when I checked in and the main wall heater worked then stopped shortly after. Luckily there was a back up fan heater in the wardrobe
Comfy bed, restaurant food excellent value, staff friendly.
Room too close to station, could hear announcements over TV. noisy at 2.30am, think it may have been a club clearing out and cleaning up but was awake for 1.5 hours.
Restaurant staff very helpful nothing was too much trouble
location right next to train station close from center very proper english with a nice touch of old fashion comfy beds
i coud hear each train announcement until midnight and starting again at 5am... Staff was very nice except the first one I met who clearly had no clue what she was doing.
Excellent in every way. We ordered a sit down lunch for 30+ people & there was nothing at all to fault.
Attitude of staff very pleasant and helpful when asked, to cope with what appears to be a lack of Supervision.
1. Price of room/breakfast did not tie in with advertised.eg B'Fast £8 on web- actually £10. Free paper with Executive room denied £1 day charged. Room maid constantly left only enough towels/water/coffee etc for 1 person.Lack of supervisor in Dining area at meals.
staff were very friendly, food good, high tea great. General atmosphere good
Location - on the railway station with direct entrance from concourse. I asked for an inward facing room which was comfortable & quiet. I've stayed before and rooms facing station or road can be noisy.
In the city centre. I got given a drink token for the hassle !
Adjacent to the train station. Constant 'bing-bong' followed by train announcements. Took 5 attempts to sort me a room. I arrived at 1610. Allocated room 218. Electronic swipe key did not work. After 4 attempts at changing the key and been up and down to the receptionist with my bags, who could not communicate correctly, I was allocated room 303. Unfortunately this was a double and I had booked a twin. Eventually got allocated room 219 next door to my original room (It is now 1730). The bathroom door handle was half hanging off. Toilet cistern was loose. Wi fi connection was extremely slow. Not enough Staff to cope with the amount of people at the bar. No seats left. Rubbish stay. I normally stay at Gilsons Hotel down the road but I fancied a change. Don't know how they get away with calling it 'Royal'. More like Tower ! I will not be staying here again, I will go back to Gilsons.
Nothing I'm sorry to say
Noisy slamming doors, a constant buzzing noise all night long. Sirens to the front and trains to the back. And you'll have the pleasure of singing drunks just to make your visit complete. Go stay somewhere else.
Latte coffee was not nice
close to centre and on train station doorstep.. friendly staff who were pleasant and helpful, would definatly stay there again.. Breakfast was very good and available untill 11 am at weekends so you dont have to get up early...
Central location very handy
Staff were horrendous.....lack of knowledge unhelpful.....and three times they passed the book on questions to someone else who didnt know and final insult was when a question was asked i was greeted with no eye contact just raised hand and the word wait
The location was very good in the train station itself and close to a number of bars and eateries and the centre of the city. The rooms were very spacious and comfy and clean.
The staff at the desk didn't seem to know what they were doing and didn't speak very good English, it took them a long time to find my booking even though I had all the information with me which they seemed reluctant to check. Then when they find my booking it was only for 1 room when I had booked 2, this took about 20 minutes, which should have been a quick easy check-in. Also the wifi did not work on mine or my 2 friends phones.
The accommodation was good and the access to the station excellent.
It seemed to be very noisy outside the hotel - it kept me awake. This is probably more of a complaint about central Hull than the hotel though.
Reception and lobby were suitably grand. The staff were friendly and efficient.
101 backs onto the lift - i could hear the lift all night. Aircon didn't work - had to open window onto noisy road
The situation of the hotel is very good with plenty of parking. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was very good and the dining room very comfortable.
booked an Executive double and first room given was very poor, appeared to be normal double with better coffee maker, bath robe etc placed in there. After complaining was given another room that matched the executive double that were shown on the web site. The staff were very helpful when I did complain about the original room. The building and decor would benefit from some tlc, worn carpets scuffed walls and paintwork etc.
friendly helpful staff.Lovely room and a great breakfast at the right price.
everything was fine.
Had problems booking in, not told reason until after 10 minutes. Our allocated room was already occupied so given another. Room was very plain for business travellers. Stated in booking 32 " TV but was 24"(but not a deal breaker). Wifi in room sporadic and poor signal. Staff at reception not overly friendly. On checking out not even asked if we had a nice stay. Given room overlooking station and woken with announcements from 5am onwards.
The room was modern and confortable. The staff friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was very enjoyable. Overall a very pleasant and relaxing stay.
When they asked what brought us to Hull, I told them. It wasn't anything good, but they reacted well to this unexpected TMI, and upgraded our room. I don't think they build hotels like this anymore, but the splendour of the interior brought back memories. (I was born in Hull 60-odd years ago, when this was the Station Hotel. Them were the days!) The internet room rate was a great deal, though. And all the staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful.
Hull city centre of a weekend is not the most inviting of locations, so we ate in. The food was okay, if overpriced, but the menu was dull. Our red wine was served at blood temperature, but they brought an ice bucket when asked. The "choice" of "draught" ales in the bar made me think of the 1970s, and of the reason CAMRA was born back then.
