Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.

Beds were comfortable. Staff friendly.
the pool was nice and warm, rooms were nice and modern.
There was no clean towels for the pool, no biscuits in the room, the little things which make a difference.
All staff we're friendly and helpful when needed! Breakfast and food in the restaraunt overall was really nice.
Service was a bit slow, waiting round at the bar, on the first night I had a jacket potato and beans and it tasted like it had just been reheated. We wasn't notified that we had to pre book a valentine meal to have it, it didn't say on the leaflet either (that I know of). Was dissapointed the fact half of the room for people who had booked it got a fancy table with decorations and flowers etc and we had to sit at a regular table with just napkins. They need to market these kinda of promotion differently so people know.
Helpfulness of staff
Lack of hot water
The bar staff were congenial
The first room was cold and the shower wasn't working very well I asked if they could sort it and nothing was done receptionist seemed affronted when I asked to be moved the second room was also cold they did however manage to provide an electric heater by the 3rd night
The rooms have small beds, the heating of the room is poor...
the shower was quite good.
The room was freezing cold, the bed was ancient and the mattress very soft even after requesting a hard mattress as I suffer from a bad back, the restaurant was unattended, no "meet and greeter" so we ended up eating at another nearby hotel where we wished we had stayed and the persona of the reception staff can only be classified as cold!!
Room facilities, bed comfort, helpful reception staff.
Restaurant food not value for money poor quality of cooking and presentation
Leisure facilities, bar & restaurant. Easy to find and good access to main roads.
Location and price
Not a bad experience,it was clean and adequate just a bit cold in the room with the radiator on full blast and the shower had no pressure.
The food was not bad at all, and reasonably priced.
The décor reminded me of University Hall rooms. It Smelt of Jif lemon cleaner (wouldn't be bad if it was clean) Dirty rooms, limescale over the taps, badly rusted radiators (and these were the refurbished rooms..
Conveniently located to major towns such as Selby, Leeds, Hull, Wakefield, Harrogate and Castleford. Located in a quiet setting and grounds
Pool was clean and all the staff were informative and helpful. Food was excellent, will book again.
Slightly odd in location, not much to do out and about, felt we were in an old school, but the décor was nice.
The hotel add been refurbished
The room was cold, no heating in the bathroom and the one radiator in the bed room was not enough to heat both
Very friendly staff on reception and at the bar, quiet location.
Good night menu reasonable price staff friendly
Breakfast at £11.75 quit expensive even if portations are large, ,captiv ordnance no were local to compete.room did get cold
tasteful furniture in the refurbished rooms. Swimming pool
unable to use shower as mechanism missing to divert water from bath to shower. Room cold despite heating
Very helpful and pleasant staff
The hotel is a 'Quality' Budget Hotel that delivers more than alot of the more mainstream 'name' hotels do The beds are comfortable Tea and Coffee provided in the room Extra Pillows provided in the room
Anyone can pick holes - but overall I have 'no' complaints at all
Value for Money Quiet and set in nice grounds No road noise Situated within easy reach of the major Northern towns
The hotel was really nice and clean our room was really big and very clean. Good location.
Our bedroom was cold as only a small radiator which was not big enough for the room. The bathroom which was really big did not have a radiator at all and was freezing cold. There was a small oil filled heater but this did not warm either room enough
pleasantly surprised at the comfort of the bed and the beautiful bathroom.
getting woken up by the fire alarm. No staff at the reception to at least say by or even apologise when checking out Showerhead could have been a bit more powerful
A welcome smile. We arrived late but that was no trouble. The room although a long way from reception was warm & comfortable, Two armchairs fop two people (first class) Large shower in in ultra clean bathroom, again first class
The bed could have been wider, my wife (a larger lady) and I found sleeping difficult as we were unable to turn
Free car park quite near to power station reasonably priced
Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive.
