Newgate Hotel Newcastle

The hotel is right in the centre of the city and is just 5 minutes away from the central station

I liked the convenient location.

The hotel wasnt clean and needs a face lift. Needs double glazed and air-con. Decor is dated. Lot of space that could have been used better.

Very central and convenient for shops and bars. The bed was comfortable and the ensuite good. However the lift was not functioning and that's no joke when your room is on the5th floor. It had been out of action for 2 weeks apparently.

No lift. Rotten bar. Rooms need a refurb.

Central location, comfortable bed and clean room but no other redeeming features.

Extremely noisy all night both inside and outside hotel - doors banging, other guests shouting and swearing virtually all night. No attempt by skeletal night staff to do anything about it. Poor bar facilities although didn't stop people drinking all night. Not worth what we paid. Would not have gone there if other similarly priced hotels in the area not fully booked up.

The bed was comfortable

The room was hot, there was a lot of noise from some air conditioning system outside and also from revellers in the street. The room was not very clean and the bathroom even worse.

Good location for seeing the city and car park available for no extra cost.

Lack of lifts. Having to walk up 2 flights of stairs from the street - no lift available (not easy for older people). Also on 2 occasions no lift to rooms available due to breakdown - 3 lifts, 2 long term broken, 3rd lift unreliable. Breakfast served on 6th floor.

soap/shampoo dispenser in the bathroom shower was empty, and the lavatory basin was badly stained -a periodic dose of bleach would have been helpful.

heating didnt work, toilet was dirty, room was so small, tv did not even work

i went to newcastle to watch my football team,there was plenty of room to park my car and the location was perfect - you could see the ground from the hotel(about ten minutes walk)coupled with a bar three doors down with the best pre-match atmosphere I have ever experienced.The hotel facilities,service and breakfast were more than adeqate

It was conveniently situated for exploring the city

The Hotel was in the perfect place for site seeing and shopping

more direction to the car park that would help, little noisy with the night club next door

The location was excellent although on the weekend a lot of noise could be heard from the surrounding streets. The staff were very freindly and helpful.

The Hotel is in great need of a major refurb. The rooms were o.k. apart from the smell of stale smoke which was also in the quilt,but the corridors and public areas leave a lot ot be desired.Only one of the three lifts were working. We had to have the shower repaired before we could use it and towels replaced that although had been washed were soiled.

yes - it needs clealry badging as a hotel for young people on drinking nights. Too noisy. Shared facilities run down and more like a hostel.
