not impressed lift broken for 3 weeks not advised on booking, given room on 4th floor after requesting low floor. Then changes to 1st floor when requested only to be told breakfast served on 6th floor. Not possible to get there as wife has arthritic knee. Room service was provided but cold on first day.Bathroom very dirty and poor unkeep. |

The staff were helpful in resolving our problems. However this still did not result in an enjoyable stay. Hotel pictures look nothing like the actual hotel. Rooms shabby and dirty. When advertised as city center it is not detailed that it is on Newcastles main club and pub street. The single glazed windows are poorly fitted resulting in draft and the feeling that you were in the club yourself, obliviously resulting in minimal sleep! It is a hotel for drunk revelers, twice someone tried to get in our room whilst drunk. Bathroom was dirty, bath not cleaned, toilet dirty, grime between tiles. After a 7 hour drive for a work trip we were unimpressed. |

Staff very helpful and polite. Breakfast was very nice, freshly made, not left to sit under heat trays. The room I stayed in could of done with a bit of general maintenance, wallpaper coming away from walls and poor repairs in the bathroom, toilet could of done with seeing some bleach. Bed was very clean and comfortable. However, thats the only good point about room. |

The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was nice looking at the pictures on the internet i was really looking forward to my weekend away with my partner when we got to the hotel you have to go through lots of doors to get to the reception which is not good i think that you should be greated at the door and feel welcome to the place.we got to the reception and the women on the desk looked up at us and said wait a minute not 'welcome to the newgate hotel please wait one moment im just finishing what im doing' after that we were given our keys etc not even shown to our room and we were on the 5th floor and the lift was out of order. so we wanted to forget about all that and enjoy our stay when we got to the room we noticed that it needed a big lift and definatly in need of a decorate. |

It was very convenient for the shops and the station. We found it impossible to sleep during the night. The surrouding clubs/ pubs where blasting out music and there was a constant stream of people who had been out for the night and making such a row-banging on doors shouting etc- it was terrible. We would never stop there again. |

Room was adequate beds were comfortable and breakfast was very nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful.Very good spacious car park. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and it will take some time to complete.Unfortunately the lift was not working during our stay and this was a major problem in relation to moving luggage and access to higher floors. However the staff did their utmost to compensate for this inconvenience. |

The central location was ideal for shopping and near Central Station for the airport The location of the restaurant on the 6th floor was a nightmare with the lift out of order. No apology was made for this. |

I liked the convenient location. The hotel wasnt clean and needs a face lift. Needs double glazed and air-con. Decor is dated. Lot of space that could have been used better. |

Very central and convenient for shops and bars. The bed was comfortable and the ensuite good. However the lift was not functioning and that's no joke when your room is on the5th floor. It had been out of action for 2 weeks apparently. No lift. Rotten bar. Rooms need a refurb. |

Leaving, and getting to my meeting so that I was able to brush my teeth and have a shave. There are many areas that I felt disappointed with: The lifts did not work, as the lifts did not work there was a hike up to the 6th floor to reach the restaurant. The bathroom was especially poor, the bath was full of water on arrival; the sink did not empty of water as there must have been a block in the pipes, and there was a very potent smell in the bath room of damp, when flushing the loo, the lack of pressure did not flush away what it is intended to. I was unable to close the windows fully and as the hotel was located next to a very busy night life area, which was very noisy for most of the night, this was not highlighted within the description of the hotel online, it suggest that the hotel is in the centre of the City but no mention of the club life around the hotel. I feel that the money I paid for this very poor facility hotel was extortionate. My colleague also was very disappointed with the facilities and the cleanliness of the room |

Central location, comfortable bed and clean room but no other redeeming features. Extremely noisy all night both inside and outside hotel - doors banging, other guests shouting and swearing virtually all night. No attempt by skeletal night staff to do anything about it. Poor bar facilities although didn't stop people drinking all night. Not worth what we paid. Would not have gone there if other similarly priced hotels in the area not fully booked up. |

The bed was comfortable The room was hot, there was a lot of noise from some air conditioning system outside and also from revellers in the street. The room was not very clean and the bathroom even worse. |

Good location for seeing the city and car park available for no extra cost. Lack of lifts. Having to walk up 2 flights of stairs from the street - no lift available (not easy for older people). Also on 2 occasions no lift to rooms available due to breakdown - 3 lifts, 2 long term broken, 3rd lift unreliable. Breakfast served on 6th floor. |

The Staff were very helpful and could not do enought to please. the location was ideal for the trip which i had planned. The room was clean and the linel fresh on the beds. The room is a little dated and needs upgrading. The winows were single glazed, given it location and the noise from the street double glazing is required. The entrance off the street could be improved (if possible.) |
