Upon reading reviews about this hotel before we arrived, I was very worried that it might be an absolute dump. However when we arrived we were shocked to find how clean and nice the hotel actually was. It was perfect for us as we were only going for a weekend away, centrally located, close to nightclubs, late residents bar and perfect for a group of friends or a stag or hen's do. Although the hotel was perfect for us, do not stay here if you are a young or mature couple because the corridors can be very noisy at night as there are a lot of groups that stay here and they can be up all night drinking and it may be very hard to sleep. Also for disabled people, check in is on the 1st floor and the only way that I could see to get there was stairs so you may want to avoid this hotel.

We chose this hotel because it offered free, city centre parking. We were first given a room next to a lift shaft, not very clean, toilet unflushed since last use. Were quickly given another, slightly better room. Be aware that this hotel is very close to the main night life area of the city and with only single glazed windows it was very noisy all night. This almost paled into insignificance compared to the noise inside however! The hotel appears to cater for stag/hen parties and we had almost no sleep in our two night stay due to drunken groups returning at all hours, singing, banging doors and arguing Etc.. We visit the city regularly but won't stay here again.

I liked nothing at all..i absolutely hated my stay in this hotel. The hotel is located in a very narrow alley going to their private carpark. The entrance from the main street is just open for anyone and anybody who is not a guest could just sneak in..The hotel room has no soundproof. You can hear drunken people from down the street at 3 am in the morning. You can hear guests banging doors, shouting laughing, throwing chairs at each other.. Absolutely horrible if you wake up at 3 o clock in the morning hearing bangings and all sorts of noises...it never made me fall asleep again. Absolutely, I will never recommend anybody to stay in this hotel.

Iliked nothing. Room was not clean, door keycard had to be re-activated every time we returned to the hotel. Yobs running around the hotel coridors at night. Glass's thrown from upper windows to car park, damaging my car in the process. Pictures of the hotel, rooms online are extremely misleading, as the hotel is an absolute disgrace, and I will be informing everyone I know to steer clear. I do not know how the owners can have people staying there, and taking money from them. I have taken many photographs, which will be used to feature the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Therer is not enough space to document how disgusted I am with the state of the hotel

Dirty bedrooms and bathroom full of mould. The kettle was smeared with dirt on the lid. The curtains were filthy and falling off the track. Bar facilities were very poor with filthy glasses and very over priced considering the surroundings. Iron was broken. Wardrobe doors were falling off. Lifts were uncleaned as were all the communal areas. Clearly there is no housekeeping service. The worst hotel I have ever stayed in and it would be better described as a hostel. Vastly over priced and not value for money at all.

Free parking and WiFi (even if only in lobby). Beds were comfy, shower head was very good and breakfast great. Rooms could be too small for 3 Persons when stay is longer. Windows incl. boards should be cleaned better (as well as in the restaurant). Noise outside at weekends.

I like the Newgate Hotel Newcastle because, It has lots of free parking and it is slap bang in the heart of the city. Needs a little refurbishment. But, it is still clean warm and comfortable.

The staff were unfriendly. There were people coming from nightclubs to hotel rooms for parties. The staff did not do anything to stop this. There were drunk people in the lift and in the corrider. They were even trying to kick hotel room doors in. The staff did not stop any of this from happening.

Our room was clean & comfortable! A little aged in decor & carpets in bedrooms but our room had the whitest bedding on the double & single bed we had! The towels in bathroom were also very clean! Nice to see Dove bodywash & shampoo in handy dispensers. Yes the bathroom was a little dull & ideal for a quick shower & using the loo. Not much to complain about really as only used for getting ready for night out, sleeping & a good breakfast in the morning! Recommend hotel as a good central base for night life seekers! Has carpark too. Noisy at wk ends but it is based at centre of the night life of the Toon! Gets a **** from hubby & me & we will return! Just needs updated refurbishment in rooms but value for money, location & gated carpark! Like I say it is based in centre of night life & next door to pubs, clubs, restaurants & fast food places! So good if u get hungry after hours! Street noise as it is on main pub & club area but is funny to watch from window the drunk people! Lol... Compare it to 18 to 30's Ibiza hotels on a Saturday nite!

location was excellent, right in city centre. rooms were clean and staff were helpful entrance to hotel from main street is in dire need of decoration, not at all appealing on arrival. Bar needs draught beers not just bottles, which were quite expensive.

The English breakfast! Great products and wonderfully cooked and presented by Ken. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The location, just a few yards from The Gate and Debenhams' entrance (which can lead through to the Eldon shopping complex, et al) is ideal for those seeking entertainment, eateries and shopping. The lack of double glazing in all rooms, private and public, made for a very cold and uncomfortable atmosphere. The complete lack of any heating in the bathrooms was particularly bad, especially in the February cold spell. A portable electric convection heater was provided on request and that certainly allowed the whole area to gain some necessary heat. Generally the place is looking a little tired and in need of some TLC.

Newgate hotel was ok in its self. I had a few issues, the sheets had tea stains on them (looked unwashed) and the pillows had hairs on them too. Breakfast buffet was cold and not enough to cater for all customers. However when asked for extra they provided. Staff was really friendly and always willing to help. Room facilities were good, enough towels and tea/coffee services were ok. We were due to leave early Monday morning so we stayed in on Sunday night and watch a film on the TV in the room, it kept popping up with a sign to say the tv is going on stand by (we could not cancel this) and the cable kept being switched off too even though other channels were working. We was also woken up twice on Sunday around 2am and 5.30am, we was given no explaination for this or anything upon check-out. I would not visit this hotel again nor would i recomment to potential customers.
