The room was clean and spacious and the bed was comfortable. We hated the buffet help yourself layout for breakfast, more akin to groups recovering from the night before. No personal service. Tea bags ran out, then the water to make tea ran out. No tea pots. When we first arrived, before we had seen our room, we were asked to pay - we didn't, we never do until we have seen our room. Therefore, not very welcoming. Staff need to smile. There was a wedding in full flow - music very loud, so nowhere to sit and have a relaxing drink.

The way the staff went out of their way to make our stay extra special. We stayed because in 1972 we spent our wedding night at the old Grand and after 40 years we renewed our vows and wanted to stay at the same place. A big thanks to all the staff for the card balloon and room upgrade

The rooms are fresh and warm and rooms we have been allocated have been spacious. The staff are always very helpful and when having to cancel a booking due to my husbands ill health- the receptionist was very understanding and managed my booking so we could go at a later date.

The hotel itself was nice, clean, staff were friendly(ish),was really handy for the theatre, which was the reason we were there, the best thing was the breakfast. The service was very slow, the food was below standard, not what you would expect from a hotel, not what i would call a quality hotel,i think it was overpriced for the standard it gave, i don't think i would stay there again.

Clean spacious room. Friendly staff. Good rate. When declining service have £5 drinks vouchers. Nice food in Bennetts Bar. Hotel was not 'intimidating' for me as a woman travelling alone. Good location. Had to run shower at full blast for about 10 minutes before warm (room 318). I did report this to reception. Bar was not prepped on Sunday-eve and girl on duty had to keep disappearing for fairly long periods to get bottles etc leaving people waiting. Not hotel's fault but I would never recommend the hotel to go for a quiet stay - far too much noise from outside from groups of people passing throughout the night and delivery truck in the morning. Next time I'm bringing earplugs.

Handy and very central which is what we were looking for. Poor standard, a previous guests razor head was left in one of the bathrooms. The choice of drink in the bar was awful, all bought from the local tesco. All the wine glasses were dirty. The barmaid attempted to clean them but they were so dirty she didn't use them. They seemed under staffed as well.

Tea facilities in the room, location, free parking and wifi. The rooms werent really bery clean - my companion wouldnt even shower! It was basic which is fine for the money if that suits you... But not what we were looking for. Staff on the phones at reception barely acknowledged us! We didnt take breakfast.

Breakfast room had not been cleaned since previous day. Unhygienic tea bags tipped into container from box - not even separated so had to touch two tea bags. Surely a breach of regulations!

Proximity to the city centre. Ideal location forThe Sugarmill music club for gigs (5 mins walk). Value for money. Big breakfast. Good and quiet for weekday stays Distance from the Railway station. A taxi is required. Beds was a little too firm for my taste. Probably noisier for weekend stays due to proximity to the nightclub area.

The hotel had character, and most staff seemed friendly. The night porters were great and pleasantly served us in the 24 h bar when we got back from work so we could wind down with a drink and a game of pool. The room was so very very hot. The central heating pipes ran thro the room an they didn't turn them off until midnight. The rooms were like saunas. The night porter did bring a fan to the room which was left on all night. Also the bed was incredibly soft.
