3 mins walk from town centre albeit not a very scenic walk; hotel bar area / foyer; plenty of teabags in the rooms; beds comfy; breakfast is pretty respectable No hotel parking, not even a space to pull in and unload/load bags except on double yellows; small rooms; no wardrobes (open hangars);

One of the biggest rooms we have stayed in during the last 8 weeks of hotels. The food was very good, not cheap though. But the car park accross the road was a test of your skills. Not a good thing if you are in a hire car you have not a lot experience with. It was also the 2nd most expensive hotles we stayed at. The parking.

I liked the location and the general design and decor of the hotel, Breakfast was great and the bed was very comfy. I knew what I was getting when I booked and I was not dissapointed. I would have liked a bath and perhaps wardrobe space but that's not a fault of the hotel or booking.com

Easy walk to all York historical places. Bring your own pillows, you don't want to use the hard flat ones available in the hotel.

It was very clean and modern. A short walk to the centre of York. I didn't like paying for a car park when staying at the hotel. If you expect someone to stay you should have the facilities to accomodate a vehicle for each resident. I had been told that the breakfast was good. There was plenty of choice but it was barely warm

The location of this new hotel is ideal for anyone wishing to explore the history of York. Accommodation costs are very competitive. Meals not exciting but at the price level were good value.

We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and the staff really are very friendly and pleasant. The hotel location is excellent for a weekend break, close to all the tourist spots and the shops/restaurants. The immediate surrounding area is a little run down, but it's only a short walk up into the City and a taxi back to the hotel is a very reasonable price if your legs get tired!! We were suprised how quiet the hotel was, with little sound travelling from next door rooms, despite the fact hotel was very busy. Free WIFI throughout is a great bonus too. Would stay here again. We were keen to try the advertised "cocktail bar" but were disappointed that this is really just part of the reception area and although the seating is pleasant, it was somewhat lacking in atmosphere and the 6 cocktails on offer were a poor selection! Although the beds were comfortable, they are very high and not easy to sit on during the day - our twin room only had 1 chair.

Modern decor and location. I thought is was very expensive for what it was and the photographs on the website suggested something much more special than say a travelodge or premier inn. It wasn'T. The decor was nice and modern but the facilities were basic. We only had a double bed which is rare at these prices and I couldn't even fill our kettle in the bathroom as it was too large to go under the tap. Our sink also had a huge crack in it. I paid extra for a birthday surprise but now wish I had saved the money and stayed in a budget hotel which would've given us exactly the same facilities plus a much larger bed!

We had a front facing room allocated , noted the noise from the street and asked to be moved to a quieter position,there was no hassle over this. The design should have had better double glazed windows. 53 is a bit of a walk from the centre but not too difficult nearby is the Travelodge. Picadilly is an improving area, the hotel is functional,clean and staff are very helpful-thus we recommend 53; but its a no frills experience on the trendy design side, no wardrobes, no curtains just blinds,good shower room/ bathroom .Very much One /two night stay-vacation.Character is not on offer.On price we paid 240 for two nights for a double room-I think 180-200 was about right. The price is an issue ,but its York and the weekend-in Spring but at 120 a night too much

The shower was hot and powerful and it was generally a very clean room. The staff on arrival was curt and rude, not at all welcoming. The room was extortionately over priced for what was a basic room. The size, decoration and facilities were no better than the Premier Inn I stayed in recently for less than half the price. Everything was in good order but the room was quite small, the bed a standard double, decoration very basic and uninspiring, tea and coffee very standard and hairdryer small and not powerful. £150 for one night should get you a touch of luxury, this was clean and smart but totally basic. It did not even include breakfast! I would definitely not recommend.

It had a welcoming and efficient check in process.The room was very clean and uncluttered with a very good bathroom and shower. The dining room was nicely laid out with a good variety of food for breakfast and attentive staff. This hotel lived up to our expectations.Good value for money and so close to the City Centre without any noise at night. Excellent!

Modern, clean. Lack of character, room a lot smaller than pictured on web site, a slight step up from a Premier Inn.

The hotel is well placed for York city centre and was clean and well serviced. Late check-in, parking charges were a bit expensive and noise in rooms was terrible waking all members of the party up.

Staff were very friendly and obliging. Restaurant was good too. Room was quite chilly and the duvet for a single bed was only the same width as the bed!...didn't make for a very comfortable night's sleep.

The rooms were a lot smaller than I expected. Poor quality of bedding. The bathroom was adequate although the shower area wasn't very clean. There was chewing gum in the wash basin. Very noisy ., could here clear conversations from the room next door ... Wouldn't recommend it to friends/family over-priced
