The location and the breakfast. The bed was not comfortable and the quilt cover was not big enough for the bed.

Friendly, helpful and efficient reception staff. Interesting building of great character. Appreciated plentiful spare pillows extra to 1 on bed per person. Pillow cases for same delivered to room promptly on request. Useful iron and board available (didn't use) Bathroom clean. Bring your own shower cap. Generally run down building, a shadow of its former glory. Our bedroom had 2 drawers missing from the unit; there was space for what had been a mini bar, but none there; part of the base of the very small double bed was broken. Carpet stained and dirty. Breakfast adequate; first morning had to ask 3 times for porridge, Sadly, a place in terminal decay. It would take a lot of money, energy and imagination to fulfil its potential. I feel mean writing so negatively, but it was OK as somewhere to sleep for 2 nights. Wouldn't have liked to stay longer.

The location of the hotel was first class, right in the center of Ayr. The room we were given was not of the best and within a few minutes we discovered thet a light fitting above one bed was in a dangerous state and the second light did not work. Tne cable for the tv was just bare wires. We were moved without any hesitation only to discover that the tv only nad 1 channel (cbbc). Later that day the tv was replaced with another plus a digibox, hurrah something worked. When I asked later about an evening meal I was told the chef had left at 4pm and there were no meals! Our daughter in the next room had the shower rail fall off the wall whilst she was in the shower! We decided that we would not stay a second night as planned after we had breakfast, the food was very poor. After attending a function we returned to the Hotel, packed and checked out. The Manager was called and was very appologetic, he did refund our second nights money. Over all not a good experience! We will not return to this hotel again or recommend it to anyone!

Food was good in spite of service. Room was spacious and warm.Location is great. Price is good and the ambience is good normally. We have loved this hotel, have been to it at least 5 times. This time the service was really poor. We were told that this was due to the owner's friends, family taking over the hotel. We were put in the breakfast room (only table) for dinner. We felt like second class citizens.First night service was just awful and we were freezing. At breakfast, although food was fine, there was nothing on table, had to get our own cutlery, sugar, milk, napkins etc.I was asked to pay up front on arrival. This is new. Had I been aware of what was to follow, I would not have paid for our first evening meal when we were left abandoned in middle of meal, manager admitting that waiter hid and that the room was freezing, Manager said they were all knackered after serving 200 guests. We were given complimentary drinks but felt we could have been offered more. Sad because we loved the hotel.

Friendly and helpful staff. Good location. Clean room. Comfortable bed. Clean bathroom with clean towels. Rates are too high for just a basic room and breakfast wasn't included in the price. Door to room rattled all the time. Suspended ceiling rattle when window is open. As with all hotels not enough coffee, tea, milk and sugar in the room. Not enough soap and toilet paper in the bathroom

Staff very friendly and location very central for shopping and leisure. The bathroom required a makeover especially the shower units, the Hotel is a beautiful building with enormous scope and potential...but it does need meaningful investment.

Price was more expensive than quoted. Had to pay full price for breakfast for 18month old child. Couldn't supply evening meal as no chef. Lack of staff on duty. Had to use bar sitting area upstairs yet go downstairs for drinks. Lift not working (had to carry a pushchair & baby 3 flights of stairs. Overall the overnight was a disaster. Will not be back & will not recommend to anyone. Payment had to be made at check-in rather than check-out?

Good location, situated in town centre so close to shops, restaurants, bars etc. Reception staff good. Good price for what we got. Arrived on a really cold day in December, given room which had no heating on and bed had not been made up properly. Asked to be moved and the girl at reception was very apologetic and immediately tried for another room, after going to 5 different rooms we were eventually given a family room which was still quite cold but she did provide an additional electric heater which helped a bit.

Basically, it was handy for where I was working in Ayr Town Centre. It needs bringing into the 21st century. It is an old hotel and needs to be refreshed quite a lot. I'm not writing this to complain but there were many things that, on their own, I wouldn't normally bother mentioning. However, there were so many niggly things that it got quite annoying in the end. I checked in on Monday evening and it got off to a bad start, as they never had a record of my reservation, despite me having a print out of my Booking.com booking. Luckily, they had rooms spare. Then, the credit card machine wasn't working and they asked me for cash, which I didn't have on me. I checked out on Wednesday morning and it still wasn't working. Although this probably wasn't the hotels fault it was annoying that I had to go out to a cash machine in order to settle up. On Tuesday morning, I went down for breakfast and there is a sign asking you to wait to be seated. I waited, for almost 8 minutes, and might have still been standing there now had I not walked over to knock on the kitchen door. I put 2 slices of bread on the toaster, the type that carries it on a grill over the elements. The conveyor was moving so slowly that the bread was like charcoal by the time it dropped back out. A member of staff was unable to adjust it, but at least they went into the kitchen to get me some toast from there. I tried to open the bedroon window before going to bed but the handle came away from the rotting frame and I was unable to open it. Other things to niggle were that there was no toilet brush in the bathroom, not good after a curry the night before. Also, there was no hairdryer in any of the drawers. For hotels these days, that is quite bad as they are probably standard even in prison cells! To cap it all, when they serviced the room, they never changed the towels. I had used the bathroom towel for 2 showers and they just hung it back on the rail for me to use again.

Convenient for train as that was our reason for staying We arrived and were giving a room with broken shower and could not get television to work so when I reported it to the receptionist she kindly gave us another room. We were not advised where breakfast was served and when eventually finding the Arran Suite we waited 25 mins to get served. So on a whole it was convenient for our needs but wont stay there again
