This family-run hotel in the centre of Gretna offers a warm welcome in homely surroundings. It is near to Gretna Register Office, Anvil Hall and the famous blacksmith's shop.
Score from 186 reviews Very good
Friendly staff and being looked after. Food good. Hotel and food good value and not far from both Gretna and the motorway. Good stopping off point for a long journey
On going project , but its a very old building and they do need a lot of looking after, if you stay in a 18 century hotel thats what it is .
Old world charm. Certainly not 5* but we would have hated that. Breakfast was brilliant. Suited us.
Wifi only on ground floor, no big deal but would have been useful in room.
Location convenient off M74. Parking
Room unkempt, shower unusable covered in mould and mildew. Staff inattentive, at times not even about at the bar or reception! Very disappointing, wouldn't stay again or recommend.
Cheap staff friendly
No milk in room! No staff around when trying to check out!!!
The staff were all so friendly and accommodating, made us feel so welcome. Food was tasty and reasonably priced. There were areas where we could comfortably sit with our dog without bothering others. Great having large free carpark at the rear of the hotel.
Some of the areas are slightly tired but I think the owners are making improvements.
The food was first class.
Shower is a bit small
good location on high street near bars restaurants, good soft bed ,nice size rooms.friendly staff, good bar food.
Very out dated need a face lift .noisy in mornings ,
Staff were brilliant. Family room great size
Hotel could maybe do with a bit of updating
Excellent, very helpful and very friendly staff. Food was very good and very good value. Extremely comfortable bed with plenty of tea and coffee in the room, more than most. Would stay again at this hotel which was, overall, very good value for money
food in the bar is good, staff are friendly
NO Hot water, no hairdryer,
The location is excellent and car parking easy and convenient. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel caters for all types.
The room was small and had a "musty" smell. Whilst the bed was fine the rest of the room lacked comfort.
Location and Staff
Evening meal and breakfast were very good. Private car park very welcome.
Service was very slow for evening meal.
Lovely warm welcome and a very comfy bed
The toilet was very clean but a wee bit smelly.
The room was just what we needed as a family of three and really excellent value. The large TV was especially appreciated and breakfast was good, with plenty of choice for us all. There was plenty of good handy parking, but the entrance is hidden away and we had to ask how to get there.
Nothing I can really think of. Perhaps only the fact that reception was unmanned when we arrived but it was a tiny niggle, as staff seem to fulfil all duties and we were quickly dealt with once someone arrived from whatever else they were doing.
Well placed, food good Room good size all things worked in room, quiet , location on Hight Street. Parking at rear.
Staff very helpful and friendly - food nice and reasonable
Hotel in a terrible state of repair - shower fell off the wall onto my head! Window frames rotten and stale smoke smell throughout the hotel.
The food was really good!
We really enjoyed our stay, The dinner was excellent, great choices for vegetarians. The breakfast was really good too. We loved our room it was really spacious, the shower was a bit old fashioned, but it's being renovated. The staff made us feel really welcome.
Good value for money in bar and restaurant. Chicken liver pate was excellent! Comfortable beds.
Shower difficult to use. could not get a good flow of hot water. Either too cold or too hot.
Friendly & helpful staff, lovely spacious room, well decorated in a nice style, comfy bed and very large bathroom with corner bath! Bar in hotel a little disappointing but the Bluebell Inn over the road highly recommended for ale! Easy to use hotel, with ample parking. Good nights sleep. Perfect for a stop over or a weekend break. Nice town.
The jets in the Jacuzzi bath didn't work. Hotel looks very tired in many places, but appears it is a work in progress.
Missed the mark completely, room was in disrepair, electric cord dangling from the ceiling, the bed had no support and was very small for a double, wallpaper hanging off one ceiling corner, and the smell of stale tobacco and beer, yuk. Is that why they offered a half price deal? Sorry, wasn't even worth that!
