Centrally located in the historic city of Durham, Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County boasts views of Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle and is situated on the banks of the River Wear.
Score from 727 reviews Very good
In the heart of Durham's city centre, within easy reach of the A1 and less than 500 metres from the castle and the train station, this modern hotel offers great value and spacious, modern rooms.

Kings Lodge Hotel offers a cosy bar, good food in Finbarr's Restaurant and easy access to Durham city centre.
Score from 590 reviews Very good
Clean, central, staff very polite and helpful. Very relaxing.
Sat night noisey . Room warm and air conditioning not great.
Clean and modern with friendly staff
Asked for a double bed and got two singles pushed together
the breakfast and cleanliness
It was too hot in the hotel
Breakfast is good
The hotel is sited just minutes from the old city. Approximately 4 minutes' walk from the hotel and you'll find yourself in the heart of lively bars and restaurants and a few minutes more will bring you to the main city sites. Excellent location and excellent hotel
Clean modern hotel excellent gym spacious bedroom high standard of comfort.
Food options for dinner limited. No imaginative vegetarian food
good size bedroom and good location. The hotel also offers access to gym and pool and sauna which are good facilities. Breakfast was great. Close to hotels and Durham landmark.
i felt that the food selection was limited within the hotel restaurant and it would have been nice to have a restaurant and food that matches with the style of the hotel. But this is a personal opinion and not everyone may agree with me.
Size and layout of room
Bed not that comfy - too foamy
Convenient location Typical amenities Helpful staff
Spotty Wi-Fi Smaller car park (too many buses)
Superb leisure club - very nice pool, sauna, steam room. Great location Pleasant interior Great breakfast
'Executive' weekend deal was in hindsight not worth the extra cost in our case.
THE MASSAGE WAS EXCELLENT FOR US BOTH AT THE SPA
NO BUSCUITS IN THE BUSINESS CLASS ROOM VERY DISAPPOINTED FOR EARLY MORNING CUPPA !
Everything was great the fact you didnt have to pay extra for pool and wifi. Room was very big. Great view of the river. Had an issue with check out was handled very well.
This hotel is located in a great place near all amenities , and right next to the river ...lovely staff , very clean hotel we will deffinetly be back
I had trouble getting wi-fi on my phone ..... Wasn't too struck on the menu either , but plenty of restaurants near by .
I have already recommended this hotel to friends. The staff was friendly, helpful, professional, and competent --- in short, the best. The room was beautiful, overlooking the river and the hills. We stayed only one night; I wish I could have stayed longer. Constance Furseth Portland, Oregon, USA
As at most hotels, the breakfast is too expensive.
Nice hotel, lovely staff, close to train station
For £155 a night - a bottle of Still & Sparkling water should have been in the room The Toilets Bowl was not properly cleaned The shower was not properly cleaned and slightly scruffy 24 hour menu food was quite poor
This was a wonderful hotel, easily accessible, with lovely views over the river and close to all the amenities of the city. The room was spacious and clean and the facilities like the swimming pool were inviting.
The lovely room had very poor sound proofing and I was unable to sleep because I could hear the television in the neighbouring room until the early hours..
the free drinks and parking
Bathroom made strange noises throughout the night
The Spa and pool was good. The rooms were new and clean.
We asked for a double bed but it was actually two singles pushed together which made it uncomfortable. The food was very average, expensive and slow service. Breakfast was cold. Wi Fi was slow
Spacious room and smart and chic hotel
No view Having to climb into bath to have a shower
near the city centre plenty of places too eat good value people friendly
bar meals expensive
stunning and put of this world
The location was central for all the main attractions, cathedral, shopping and nightlife. The room was really comfortable and we had a lovely view of the river. Staff were friendly and helpful. This was our 2nd visit and will be returning in the future.
Staff very helpful with great personalities. Reception and rooms well appointed, breakfast good.
Business class room, at the side of the hotel no view as such and very noisy with disco on both nights.
The riverside location is stunning, with a pedestrian bridge immediately opposite which lands you in the peninsula (historic city centre) in just five minutes. The room service breakfast came on time and was fine (though not much choice), and there is a large car park. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
There was an issue with the boilers while we were there, so there was no chance of a hot shower or bath one morning. This might have been pure chance - hard to know. The hotel is slightly tricky to drive to until you know the way. Some of the necessary turns look at first glance as if you are driving into a car park. Make sure you look on Google maps first.
