One of the reasons we chose the hotel was because of the leisure facilities. Knowing that we were going to be there early in the afternoon, we were looking forward to having some entertainment. The hotel has a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and gym. We entered the leisure club and were greeted by a gentleman who didn't usually work in the leisure club so was pretty unhelpful. We weren't sure whether we had to bring towels from our room for the pool and he was unable to confirm this. Eventually another member of staff came and handed us some towels and keys for the lockers in the changing rooms. The changing room (ladies - I can't speak for the men's) was dirty and the floor was wet and covered in hair which was very off-putting. I tried three different lockers and none of them worked so I gave up and took my belongings into the leisure suite with me. The room where the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room are located was unbearably hot, and the water was like bath water it was so warm. The pool is much smaller than it appears in the photos as one section of it is a children's pool. At one point, a child defecated in the small pool and it was just left there for a while before someone complained. We complained about the heat and so did some other guests, so someone came and propped open the fire exit door to let some air in, although it didn't make a lot of difference because it warm outside. It would be good to see the temperature controlled in the leisure suite. The sauna and steam room were both clean and suitable. Finally, the free wifi offered by the hotel didn't work on any of our devices (we had three devices with us) so we paid the small £5 fee for premium wifi but that didn't work either and I have arrived home from our trip to discover that I have been charged anyway.
The staff was friendly enough on arrival and we were checked in quickly. We went to our room which was very spacious and had tea and coffee making facilities, robes, slippers, bathroom toiletries, a large TV, and a king sized bed which was comfortable. We ate at the restaurant for both our evening meal and breakfast the next day. The evening meal had a choice of carvery or a la carte and we chose to order from the a la carte menu, although the carvery did look nice. The food was great and the staff were super friendly and helpful - the menu was extensive and catered to all dietary needs, and the wine list was great too. We had three courses each and they were all delicious, and reasonably priced for a 4* hotel. There is a bar but we didn't use it as we drank in the restaurant. The hotel is conveniently located just of the A1 and is ideally positioned for a quick arrival and departure.
