A 17th-century village pub, The Plough Inn in Coldharbour enjoys a pretty location in the Surrey Hills, around 4 miles from Dorking.
Score from 137 reviews Good
The rooms were very clean and spacious. The location is great if you're looking to stay near Horsley Towers (beautiful site). It's also very close walking distance to a fantastic gastro-pub (Duke of Wellington). We only had breakfast at the hotel but there was quite a good range. The check out time was also very reasonable.
Our room was in the new part of the building (510) and the room was incredibly hot (despite staying in October). Our friends staying in 506 and 508 had the exact same issue and even with windows open, it made little difference. It seemed to be caused by the radiator in the bathroom (for drying your towels) but there was no way to switch it off so it was a sauna in the actual bathroom. Our other friend was in the old part and had the opposite issue - completely freezing, until she discovered a heater tucked away.
TV system ... selection of channels was very limited and the picture quality left a lot to be desired
Location and size of room
Nice decent Clean room Nice shower plenty of red hot water Good breckfast
Poor wi fi (added to that I had poor phone signal from 3 not the hotels fault but if you need to be on line consider that)
THE STAFF WERE VERY HELPFUL
ROOM OVER RECEPTION, ALSO A BIT CRAMPED.
No hot water in the morning due to fire alarm going off the previous evening and boiler not being reset. Wireless coverage is woeful
Most of the staff
No heating in room even in mid October nights. Night staff could not understand how to pull up the bill
The restaurant service was good and the food excellent. A spacious room and huge bed which was very sleep inducing. The hotel is situated away from the road with secure parking.
The confirmation from Booking.com suggested towelling bathrobes and slippers were available - not so. A minor point but it should be checked and/or amended
Clean, good shower
Staff not friendly very miserable and unhelpful on checkout room too hot and uncomfortable nights sleep meant to have a discount for booking with clandon court but refused it breakfast extra and not good quality especially for price
Had excellent rest after long haul flight before travelling onwards. Staff were extremely welcoming, room spotless and comfortable
Receptionist on the saturday arrival was very helpful with arranging taxis to wedding reception. Breakfast team was first class team also. No other interaction of note
Very pleasant stay
We stayed here as it was 5 Minutes away from a reunion we were attending. Upon arrival the receptionist was very welcoming The room was clean and had everything you would expect from a room of that price. The buffet breakfast was excellent.
I didn't much like having to share a large round table with wedding guests at breakfast time. Also the bed was a little lumpy.
Friendly staff Good facilities
Good situation, quiet. Staff were friendly but did not have powers to make their own decisions and had to keep running off to consult 'managers'.
Room wasn't ready so had to go away for an hour. Suddenly charged £25 for dog which was not advertised on website. They reduced this to £10 because room wasn't ready. We stayed in one of the cottage rooms which they use for dogs but there was nowhere in grounds or near hotel to take dog and next to extremely busy road. Breakfast was not freshly cooked - just in tureens but generally OK.
Lovely location allowing for a quiet and relaxing stay
Excellent and very pleasant staff all round. Nothing was too much trouble whether it was at the restaurant for breakfast, room service or front desk.
No air conditioning or mini bar in our room.
Friendly staff, comfortable room and very good breakfast.
Hotel is really in need of refurbishment.
No air on in rooms - our room was like an oven! It is absolutely ridiculous in this day and age that hotel rooms have no air conditioning. We could not sleep at all! We had to stay away for whole days to avoid our room.
Lovely location. Very comfortable.
Newly refurbished room. Lovely grounds. Excellent breakfast though expensive.
The reception staff had not been trained. Took over 30 minutes to check in as neither member of staff on reception could sort out my booking, had to wait for someone else to start their shift. My friend's check in took as long and she had 3 door keys made up before managing to get in her room.
The staff was not helpful when we complaint ...
For my purpose the location was great. Walking distance to the high street with shops and a very good Indian restaurant called the Pink Garlic.
Breakfast, although "full English" was limited at the buffet. You could order a la carte though.
Our arrival at reception was very poor. First of all there was no one there and I had to go to the bar to find the receptionist. She then couldn't log on as she didn't know the password and went to find someone else. She was gone a fair amount of time and returned with another receptionist who was chewing and said she was in the middle of her dinner. Not really very welcoming
