I only stayed for one night. Loved the magnificent building, excellent location and extreme cleanliness of the room. (Please excuse my English, it is not my native language) At the moment of payment a charge of 2 pounds was made for using a credit card. Of course it is a very small amount of money, but I haven't payed it in others hotels and felt that, for the rate of this hotel, was a little bit annoying to have this charge. (Please excuse my English, it is not my native language)

Central Oxford. Easy access to Colleges. Morse Bar in memory of John Thaw. Concierge very helpful. Shown as 5 Star. It is not.Room well below 3 Star standard. Bed was a small double. Very uncomfortable mattress. Could not sleep. Noisy fans running all night. Tv had very few channels. Everything totally overcharged. Nothing value for money. Booked the hotel for 2 nights. Hotel increased rate for second night by £80.00 without telling us. When I queried this on check-out, I was told that this was in accordance with Booking.com terms. Breakfast was £14.90 for continental. Cooked breakfast was £7.50 extra. Morse Bar - Glass of house red was over £9.00. Get the same outside within 200 yards for £4.00. Dinner. Overpriced. Not 5 Star. Staff overbearing - constantly checking if food was alright. It was average. Do not stay at this Hotel. There are plenty of others in the vivinity who offer value for money.

Extremely pleasant staff. Delightful room and bath. Very good food. All in all a very pleasant visit and would come back again as well as recommend to others. We actually liked everything including our view of Ashmolean.

Luxury hotel full of style and character. Charge to use the hotel spa was not clear/mentioned on website. I would have expected use of the spa - sauna, hydrotherapy pool, steam room - to be complimentary for hotel residents

the concierge and housekeeping staff were excellent, very friendly and willing to help. The general level of cleanliness is very high. The rooms were nicely furnished with all of the appropriate facilities. The front of house staff were very unfriendly to the point of rudeness and did not make us feel welcome. We had to wait to check in as the room was not ready, after the check in time advertised and no apology was offered for this. The spa facilities are only included if you purchase a 'package' rather than on a normal room basis, which is not made clear on any booking page when reserving a room - we tried to use the facilities and were made to feel uncomfortable because we didnt have the correct 'package deal'. The rooms were very warm, and the air conditioning poor. Breakfast was of an acceptable standard, although by no means 5 star or 2 AA rosette, and took over 45 mins from order to arrival during the quietest time of service. Overall a real shame as our expectations were not met from the sales detail when booking.

Perfect spot, being so central.. Twin room was not worth the £289 paid. Would have expected more for the money..../ Breakfast not included, nor was spa.... Which in a 5 star hotel I would expect this to be included.....

Reputation goes before it...and its nice...very nice, but not quite perfect.....and certainly not cheap!! We ate in the restaurant...very good but £85 for the two of us. If you want to stay in style this is THE place to be seen in!! We had room 209, at certain times it smelled of smoke as it is over the front door and where the smokers stand...how the smell gets in with the windows closed I have no idea. Also the mattress on the bed is a bit soft (for me anyway), and the TV is in a grand cabinet which looks good, but makes it hard to view from the bed. Bathroom was excellent. I am nitpicking a bit, and of course you only ever remember the bad things....

We loved the hotel: the livery, the luxury, the friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent and the location could not have been better. It rained alot in Oxford and yet we were leant an unbrella on more than one occasion. The hotel paid attention to all the little details which are missed by so many other hotels. We would highly recommend this hotel (not that it needs it from us) and will definitely go there again. ......Nope..........can't think of anything!! :-)

Location as near to Worcester College where I was attending a conference. Also proximity to museums and city centre. I also appreciated the bath robes which were luxurious Room was small and dark and badly lit. I didn't feel value for money compared to the Royal Oxford where I have previously stayed and the room was very similar. I also felt the price of breakfast was exorbitant.

The service was excellent! The concierge team really couldn't do more for you! The room was clean but incredibly dusty. I would have expected a little more attention to detail from a 5 star hotel

The location The hotel is jaded. It has the trappings of a good hotel but that is superficial. The staff were nice but not of the calibre commensurate of a 5star. When I use a hotel especially a nice one I enjoy spending g time in it but did not really do that. In fact 5 minutes after arriving I had to go to a local pub to get a meal as no food or snacks were available - I was dismayed and bemused. I was asked if I needed my luggage taken to my room which surprised me as I had left it with the porter who parked my car. This should have been automatic. I also had to find my way to my room which is not usual in a hotel of such supposed standing

Nothing!! Hotel sold on character and excellence of service, However the room was in a poorly maintained & scruffy modern extension which was just too far from the main hotel. Used food plates left on the floor in the corridor. Everything including the service was delivered to the minimum standards, just about passable. Poor show.

The building itself because of it's historic interest - the location is excellent and why we chose it. Best of all Colin Dexter walked through the door just after we had arrived! The dust on the blinds for a five star hotel was not good. The bed moved away from the wall constantly as did the mattress leaving a gap which was very uncomfortable as pillows/cushions just slumped down the gap. Would have appreciated breakfast being included in the price as it was very expensive for one night.

The concierge William was excellent. Couldn't have been more helpful. Very attentive staff. Excellent location for Thames path. Very comfortable. That they charge a fee for using a credit card to pay your balance - how ridiculous for a hotel in this market. Same for charging £4 for 20 mins of internet. Roll it into the room rate - don't annoy your guests with these silly extra charges.
