Just a few minutes’ walk from Oxford city center, the Head of the River is on the banks of the scenic Thames River. The traditional inn features a riverside terrace and a stylish restaurant.

This transformed former Victorian prison is now a stunning boutique hotel offering unique luxury in historic Oxford.

Surrounded by 40 acres of stunning parkland, Oxford Spires Hotel has a pool, a gym and a spa. There is free Wi-Fi access, and the historic quarter is around a 15 minute walk away.

Great location, excellent, helpful staff who looked as though they enjoyed working there. Overall the facilities provided were of a high standard rather than 'tick box' - for example the hair dryer was much better than the usual attached to the wall models that blow low volume lukewarm air. This kind of better- than- usual standard applied to everything. I had moved here from the Oxford Hotel as I couldn't extend my stay and wished I had been at the Randolph for the whole time.
Oxford needs a luxury hotel in the centre, so thank you MacDonald Randolph for that. The staff were numerous and consistently friendly.
The plumbing must be old; there was little cold water pressure and a non-functioning thermostatic valve on the shower so the water was too hot and not variable. Beware - the price is a central London price, very high for the size and age of room.
The location was very central and right across from the museum. The bed was comfortable. My room was well cleaned.
the room was pleasant however the walls were obviously quite thin - I could hear both my neighbours and the people upstairs walking about. There was seemingly a hotel air system in the ceiling of my bathroom that could not turn off and was very noisy.
Everything was brilliant from the staff on reception to the rooms. The hotel has an old fashioned charm about it and you were treated with courtesy and respect. My friendand I stayed in a twin room which was tastefully decorated and quiet and the beds were extremely comfortable. The bathroom was nice and airy with big fluffy soft towels and the shower was nice and powerful and hot. We had afternoon tea while we were there and that was a really nice treat, we sat there for a couple of hours chatting over an assortment of desserts, sandwiches and scones and we never felt obliged to rush.
Very comfortable and extremely clean Quiet Excellent staff - friendly and competent Parking on site Dog friendly We went for one night for business but enjoyed the hotel so much we stayed for another night for leisure. Staff quickly made arrangements at the same discounted price Would definitely stay there again
Room very small with no view but, in fairness, was a last minute reservation so the rate was reduced and all amenities were excellent. Very, very quiet.
Location and staff
Being given a room that wasn't the one I booked and being told it was a generic photo changed room which was ok
Lovely facilities- very near Oxford and City Center. Fantastic location.
I liked that they gave my daughter & I what I requested: twin beds and a very quiet room. I especially liked the nice clean, big bathtub.
I like about this hotel staff were so friendly make you feel you are at your place ; strong Wifi when you create your account for free ; very clean ; comfortable bed with reasonable size the last but not the least the location location & location in the centre you can reach every places in Oxford city . With all this good things still I cannot count this hotel as 5* hotel
Only 1 bad thing about this hotel is the way to find your room it’s like you are in maze; our room#65 then we have to go to 1st floor by elevator then to many corridors go by the stairs to lower floor to find this room; I cannot count this hotel as 5* I don’t know how they got that category maybe because of his location
Reception,service,valet parking. Comfort and location.
That we only spent one night there
I am a regular guest at the Randolph and always find it comfortable, friendly and welcoming. The staff are charming and attentive and I love the quirky, characterful design and layout of this Victorian Gothic building. I am a coeliac and the restaurant staff were aware and very attentive to my needs.
Almost everything! A nice touch was returning after dinner to find the TV on and tuned to Radio 3: loved being greeted by classical music! A comfortable and friendly hotel with a beautifully old-fashioned feel to it.
Couldn't get some of the TV channels supposedly available. Not enough water pressure in the sink. No drawers to put clothes away. Couldn't always find a free seat in the Morse Bar.
the location and breakfast
The quality of the bed and linen were excellent which gave us a good night's sleep. The coffee machine in the room was a nice touch. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
I would have liked a breakfast included in the room rate.
The hotel was amazing, the staff were so helpful and nothing was to much trouble. Also the chocolate brownie was awesome. The room was comfortable and clean and the bed provided us a good nights sleep. We both highly recommend this hotel.
The staff very cooperative. Good restaurant. Excellent location
Lifts were very poor.
Concierge service helpful yet unobtrusive friendly ambience in historic building
Everything, especially the restaurant. The staff everywhere were lovely, helpful, friendly, formal enough but not stuffy. They were always there with a smile and seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs. Everyone seemed happy and seemed proud of their positions. Housekeeping was impeccable, absolutely nothing missed!! Would love to go back soon. Also got upgrade to larger room - fantastic - great 50th for my husband.
Dressing table in bedroom was very dark to do makeup, even though there was a lamp (which was dim). A brighter lamp on the dressing table would do the trick. Having said that, I would quite happily go back next weekend!!!!!
Location was perfect. Breakfast was excellent and the bar was very pleasant. Our room was roomy, impeccably clean and comfortable. Tub and shower were both ideal.
We had a long and winding journey to get to and from our room. It required going upstairs and downstairs on each trip to get there. Strange but everything else was delightful.
Having to pay fee for Spa dissuaded me from using it
Bathroom could have used some refurbishment, the shower pressure was mediocre and there were some cobwebs in the room. Double glazing would have been helpful as our room faced onto the road.
The staff on the restaurant were so friendly and helpful!
I had to leave!
Breakfast and the spa are really good. location is very good. got a got deal with breakfast included. otherwise not sure if price is worthed
For a five star hotel I expected more friendly staff. Staff from breakfast were great though, but not from reception. left the hotel with two big bags and there was no one to help.
Location, comfort, and some staff ( from concierge desk.)
A little stuffy. We have stayed in related hotels else ware but have experienced a much warmer and friendly atmosphere
