It was driving distance to Reading town centre. Mine was a last minute booking, but was only told on arrival that I had no shower (there actually was one, but had been taped up and not working). I chose the hotel as it had a gym, but couldn't use this as the gym had no shower either. Also, the advert said the room had satellite tv, but I actually only had 3 channels available.

Main reason I booked the hotel were price, internet access and that room offered was 'larger room'. In fact the room was so small that the door couldn't be opened fully because of the wardrobe. The internet access kept breaking down.

Quiet and comfortable Seemed to be only one person in the evening (Saturday) which meant I had to get out of bed when the extra coffee I'd asked for (for Sunday morning) eventually arrived.

The Staff at the reception tried their best to be professional. The the hotel should take her arrangements more serious. The wifi was terrible cost me a lot of headache.I Was assigned an occupied room at first and in correction an exessively big room with 3 beds.

The staff were very friendly & helpful. Plenty of parking spaces. It is a beautiful old building but the decor is very distressed. No restaurant meals provided in the evening only basic microwave meals or order a take away. Some rooms have microwave & fridge.

The fact that if you pay cash you have to leave a £50 deposit. Guy on reception slow in dealing with customers in front of me plus did not tell me how too get to my room after I paid.

The location is excellent; walking distance to town centre (20 mins) and university (10 mins). Room was clean, useful microwave/fridge, nice atmosphere, breakfast was excellent. Absence of shower gel/soap was irritating. No coffee sachets; asked for some but request was forgotten. Still good value for money though.

Gym, breakfast Room was small, poky, not part of main hotel, and felt like dss. I requested a non ground floor, got a ground floor. Bulb didn't work, only one coffee sachet, and dado roll was falling off the wall.

The breakfast was fabulous and restaurant service was excellent. Great value for money. I was extremeely disappointed and I did not like that even though we booked 2 large family rooms 3 months in advance, we were not automatically given the largest family rooms. We were only given one large family room. Apparently we would have had to book directly with the hotel in order to ensure we received the size of rooms we required. The receptionist obliged by giving us another room but it was a bit damp, cold, and the floor in the bathroom was dirty, the ceiling was covered in mould.

Nothing good to report apart from a gym. The room was filthy and tiny and decoration very dated and warn. Cockroach found in bathroom and still itching from bed bugs. The only reason to stay is because there are few alternatives near university.

Although the hotel appeared quite nice from the outside, once inside it looked dated and shabby. Similarlly the room we were given also looked dated and need of redecoration. The en-suit facilities looked like something out of the 70`S. Neither the bedroom nor the shower room/toilet were clean. There was a thick layer of dust on all the surfaces and the curtains. When we pulled back the bedsheets there was long dark hair in the bed. It was also difficult to get the curtains to cover the windows at night to block the light from to powerful floodlights right outside the windows.

The positives: The staff were friendly and happy to help. The carpark was spacious. Service of the bar food was very slow. Very limited choice of food available. Service at breakfast was extremely slow. I only ordered scrambled eggs on toast and had to wait 20 mins!!! The room was dirty, the sheets were not clean. The bathroom and room decoration was very dated and only 5 channels on the TV. When in the bathroom I could hear the people in the room next door chatting. Location was ok for where I was travelling to for work.

Pleasant stay nice and quiet close to town and facility When we arrived room was not ready and that was a disgrace specially when we had two youngsters with us and had to go for a drive round the block while they sort it. My wife didnt want stay there but finally conviced her. They did get it ready quickly But it seemed like it had not been done Properly with fresh sheets. The room was ok for sleeping but could do with a good clean. Staff were nice and friendly. Breakfast was good after we sent the first lot of toast back that had mould over it , that was disgusting. Possibly not stay at this hotel again only if they sort out there cleanness and quality food control. O and get room ready before you arrive. Don't know why it happen it must of been bad luck for us. Would not recommend this place due to would be embarrassing if they get the same treatment.
