Score from 169 reviews Very good
Located in the Hampshire village of Kingsclere, The George & Horn is a 16th-century inn with a real ale bar and traditional restaurant. The hotel offers free parking, free Wi-Fi and cooked breakfasts....

The room was uncomfortably col, particularly the bathroom.
Comfortable room and quiet location. Very convenient for town centre. Very accommodating staff.
Confusion over the breakfast. Available from self service bar was overcooked. To order was excellent.
1 step in to town everything you need ) nice big bath good heating and good sound proof room) ha ha!
Heating was not very good heated towel rail in bath room not working
Friendly staff were helpful on arrival and an excellent breakfast service provided
Unfortunately water in room was heavily discoloured from copper pipes. Bottled Water was purchased
I was comfortable staying. Thanks redlion
The location, the bed were extremely comfortable and the rooms were very warm, staff were friendly.
For us it was the breakfast, the beans tasted over cooked and same with the bacon, Other than that staff were excellent and attentive
Location of hotel was good for the purpose of my visit other than that We wouldn't use it at all
Bedroom very outdated and the bed was a nightmare it's the worst bed I've ever slept in in a hotel I reported this to reception also
Location is close to everything
Walking distance to the office and restaurants, park and shopping mall. Nice and pleasant room, quiet and clean. Good breakfast, friendly staff.
The gaming machine placed in the bar/restaurant makes the place to look really cheap and is really disturbing. There is a mouldy smell in the ground floor, common areas.
I find it better to pay a little extra for a decent size Bath. I do like a good soak rather than a shower. The Red Lion has this facility. The Staff are always ready to help. Plus they have a covered Smoking area, With seating etc.
Can be a little noisy on weekends, Owing to neighbouring Clubs & Bars. But not enough to disturb people too badly!
Even in the centre of town on New Years it's wasn't to loud to sleep
I suffered 21 years in Basingstoke...man and boy... And in it's day the Red Lion was a very swish place. Too up market for the likes of me. So staying there was going to be interesting. The outside from the car park has never been attractive but the frontage makes up for that. The receptionist was very polite and there was a friendly welcome. The room was clean, well appointed and more than adequate. I hate Tetley tea though. The whole hotel though had a rather tired feel about it. Like a grand old lady who could do with a bit of brightening up and a lick of paint. Over all the Red Lion is a nice comfy hotel that needs some money spent on her.
The whole hotel though had a rather tired feel about it. Like a grand old lady who could do with a bit of brightening up and a lick of paint. The bar room though was a massive disappointment. I remember it as it was and looked forward to enjoying a pint and a rest. Instead it is now some kind of lounge with a tiny bar with very limited choice of drink - I'm a real ale drinker and there was none. Also the music was awful - when will businesses learn that you do not allow your bored looking teenage Saturday staff to choose the music that your adult customers have to sit and suffer through? The customers are paying to be there and if the atmosphere (ie the music and the attitude of the staff etc) isn't right they'll go else where. Which is what we did to eat and drink.
Location ideal for shopping at Festival Place, a couple of minutes walk across the car park. Nice restaurants in the vicinity. Have used the Red Lion on many occasions for this purpose.
As a repeat user, nothing comes to mind for any negative aspects of this hotel. Suits our needs.
Good location. Clean hotel and nice staff.
The mattress was kind off old, because we allways fell to the middle and had pain in the back after a night sleep.
location good and reception staff helpful
breakfast was slow service
Good location right off High Street, walk to shopping center and lots of restaurants and pubs
Only free WiFi in bar and a few rooms, rest you have to pay for. Quite high priced for a older style hotel. Small uncomfortable beds.
Nice sized room, very clean and good facilities including an iron, trouser press and hairdryer which you don't find in many hotels these days.
The windows weren't really any good at keeping the noise from nearby clubs out and the functions downstairs were easily audible from the room.
Staff friendly And helpful
food - don't pay for a breakfast bar eating area not very welcoming decor tired over priced morning taxi booked through hotel was half hour late, asking staff to chase it i felt like i was an inconvenience to them (late for business meeting)
There was nothing in particular outstanding that I could say I liked - The room furniture was quite good though.
The breakfast was a bit rough. Worse on the second morning where some of the items weren't even edible.. Much of the place looked a bit tired with scuff marks on paintwork. Our room was a "luxury" or "club" room - Quite liked the furniture. Bed wasn't a "proper" bed, but headboard screwed to the wall and a loose divan. Underneath the pillowcases I noticed the pillow tops were a bit stained. Didn't dare take the cases off to check the whole pillow! Bath panel was poorly fixed and some of the work was very DIY style. TV (although, granted, not used that much by us) was a bit on the small side for a "luxury" room. Would have been very annoyed if I'd paid much more for the room. Description of "luxury" is pretty questionable. It was passable. Although we weren't too bothered it's a bit much to be informed a week beforehand that there is a party going on until midnight (right under your room, as it turned out). If we'd had to be up early it would have been difficult, if not impossible to get another hotel in that time - plus we had a non refundable room contract. A bit naughty.
Very polite staff Comfortable bed Close to train station
not so new, it looks a bit outdated. That doesn't really affect the comfort though. It lacks a plug near the bed.
The location of the place
The mattress and the pillows were uncomfortable the room was drafty and cold
