Score from 162 reviews Very good 8.2/10
Comfy bed TV Proximity to the station
Dated rooms Free wifi only in the bar, not in rooms
Very friendly and helpful staff
Decor needs attention
Staff were friendly service good breakfast very good Suggest for two pillows per person
Not enough pillows only one per person I did ask for more there was no spare in hotel you should allow 2 per person
Evening dining - too expensive Poor choice
Clean and tidy, close to the centre, we received a warning it might be noisy but didn't hear a thing. Good value.
Not the best shower in the world
I liked everything, friendly staff, large clean well equipped rooms, comfortable covered smoking area, good food, excellent buffet breakfast, free wifi in restaraunt and finally location, right in the heart of Basingstoke with easy access to everything.
Didnt like having to pay for wifi in my room.
This hotel was clean but basic.
Very noisy especially fellow guests who came in at 4am swearing and extremely abusive to eachother. Disgusted!
Reception and bar staff were helpful and courteous. Food in the bar was good, breakfast was good.
Room facilities, ie first night used the shower gel. Second night it was not replaced, same with the milk.
Friendly staff Location - in the town centre and easy walk to the railway station Tea and coffee in the bedrooms - good biscuits
Able to come and go as pleased staff friendly and helpful but not in your face.
Room needed a fan
Welcome from the staff And reception
No free Wi Fi has advertised in the room
Basic, slightly tired everywhere. Everthing worked, clean, food average, bar ok, staff friendly and helpful.
Price for what I got. Half the price and I would have been marking it excellent! Services gripe:- Internet 5£ per hour or £10 per day. rip off in tis day and age.
the shower was excellent and the room was in good condition, very clean and nice. staff were polite and hotel was smart and tidy overall.
were it was situated as it was near bars and bit noisy at night.
First class staff, Covered Smoking area, Good Bar, Excellent Meals,
Some of the Smaller Rooms have Shallow Baths. (I like a good soak)
Free Parking in centre of town Clean rooms and bathroom No aircon but fan appeared on request Good helpful staff Good value for money
No air con Could be noisy on front bedrooms but they do warn you of this when booking. Windows in bedrooms could do with replacing
At £42 it was value for money.
Not a comfortable Bar. Service by staff at Dinner was very amateurish. Most unprofessional. Rather annoying... The prawn stir-fry was, by any stretch of the imagination, poorly, inaccurately described on the Menu. It was very, very, very hot, chillis, etc, and virtually inedible. I thought that the Chef must be 'taking the mickey'. A pity.
Location to ammenities, bars, restaurants. Hotel receptionist - very helpful Good breakfast.
Creaky floors and hotel is ready for refurn. Breakfast staff were a let down :(
Location was excellent Staff in bar did not have a lot energy
Old fashioned hotel - wood panels every where - needs a total refurbishment
A little tired
Helpfull, attentive and friendly staff. Well sixed room (25). Very clean room +++. Cozy atmosphere.
Area around lobby, hallway towards breakfast-room are worn.
1. dedicated team; both the hotel and the restaurant.... very helpful staff 2. convenient location/walking distance to the rail station 3. preservation of a historical place 4. local/homemade food in the hotel's restaurant
it seems to me the hotel's building needs some investments (e.g. noisy/creaky floor, air condition)
Otherwise, completely lovely!
A LOT of noise until gone 5am from the surrounding night spots.
Very, very noisy, from approximately 03:30 to 04:30 am. Fight outside main reception area between a guest of the hotel and unknown persons. Police were called, six attended. He was abusive to them and was threatened with arrest, but was not taken into custody. Whilst police were still there he went back to his car, although he could hardly stand, and appeared very inebriated. Police left him there, but as soon as they left he waited a few minutes then drove off, leaving his girlfriend in the hotel. The hotel then supplied two other men with drinks outside the reception area, where they sat on the ground laughing and joking very loudly for some considerable time. Hence no sleep for us. Noise is a regular problem, we understand. General cleanliness was poor. We were booked in for 2 nights and paid up front £203-00. We asked for our money back, but all they refunded was the 2nd night as we refused to stay for the Saturday night. Also the Hotel is in administration. One piece of good news was the receptionist. She was polite, considerate and professional.
Generally the staff were very good with the exception of the experience at check out. The food and breakfast was good and plentiful. The location suited my needs for the railway station however it is a little tired and in need of modernization, particulary the beds
My room was stuffy with no air con or fan. If i opened the window it was onto the main street were noisy bars and restaurants were. My biggest dislike was the bed which was old and un-serviceable. One sharp spring even broke through and scratched my quite badly during my last night, so I had to sleep on top of all the bedding. At check out my observations were not really recognized and the staff were dismissive of me and my experience. I will be writing a separate letter of complaint and placing some online revues in due course.
