The Red Lion has excellent access to restaurants, shopping, and leisure activities. The staff is curtious and helpful.
In general, the hotel could use a freshening up.
being in the center of Basingstoke
one way system to reach the car park
The room was old and tired and in need of work - generally the whole hotel needs to be updated.
I liked the location, the price, your staff are friendly and helpful, breakfast was a decent choice and room was an adequate size. Towel warmer was on ready and water was piping hot. I would be happy to recommend as a fair one night stay budget hotel. When I needed a VAT receipt the team were incredibly helpful and this was much appreciated,
There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, the decor in public areas quite scruffy and my mattress had a dip in it. Breakfast was warm although a good selection. There was hair dangling from the shower pipe and on the bath. The menu is quite limited.
Price was very reasonable as we were stuck between houses and needed somewhere to sleep!
The rooms are very small and the breakfast is not great but it is value for money.
Myself and my partner stay at your hotel regularly yet our most recent stay was a real disappointment. Pillows were flat and uncomfortable and the room was freezing, real shame.
The service of the staff were good. They were approaching and very helpful
The pillow was a little flat and soft. Yes, I could have requested for more pillow but I thought this could be area the hotel may like to improve on.
The location, the staff, easy car parking.
Lack of atmosphere in bar and restaurant. Heating in rooms too high and not variable. Additional pillows for bed, 2 x per person. Rooms and hotel in general would benefit from images of Basingstoke & historic pictures of hotel. No real "where to" guide in room.
Centre of town
When we first arrived the hotel room allocated to us had a broken window and the toilet didnt flush however the hotel quickly acted for us, upgrading us to a nice room and also gave us a complementry drink :) some really friendly staff too :)
Central town location. 10min walk from train station.
If it's a weekend, expect noise from late night opening bars.
Rooms dated and tired Uncomfortable bed No extra pillows Shower didn't work Noisy
Breakfast is fantastic
Small bed size for two people
Room was a bit smelly like old furniture smell
Location of Hotel is first Class,With car parking a bonus
Lack of choice in hotel bar,no choice of differant beers or single malt whiskeys, food looked a bit blend and location of resturant next to bar not ideal.
The staff were excellent, and so was the breakfast.
To start with, we only had one pillow each and had to ask for another one each. As for the noise,in all fairness, we were warned that it might get a bit noisy from surrounding bars and restaurants. The worst of the noise was not from the surrounding bars and restaurants, it seemed to be coming from a property adjoining the hotel. The noise carried on until gone three a.m. Neither myself or my husband got any sleep.
The staff were friendly and my room was cosy and nicely furnished. Prior to my visit I was warned by email that there would be noise from nearby clubs and when I was not too happy about that I was allocated a quiet room at the back of the Red Lion Hotel.
In the evening after a lot of travelling I would have liked a meal in the hotel. The reception staff said the chef should be there to do you a meal but when I asked this was not possible for what ever reason. However there were plenty of places right next to the hotel to eat.
A very pleasant hotel staff and environment
Noise due to location of room
Comfy bed TV Proximity to the station
Dated rooms Free wifi only in the bar, not in rooms
Very friendly and helpful staff
Decor needs attention
Staff were friendly service good breakfast very good Suggest for two pillows per person
Not enough pillows only one per person I did ask for more there was no spare in hotel you should allow 2 per person
Evening dining - too expensive Poor choice
