The bed was comfy and clean. I never complain about anything (and my mother always tells me off!) but I think I need to with this hotel - please do not stay here unless you want to witness assaults in the hotel and hear people peeing! I stayed there for a week as I had moved down to Basingstoke for work and it was giving me the opportunity to find somewhere to live. The first night there was a "Do" downstairs and it was like the dj was in bed with me the music was so loud. The don't have anything in the walls to buffer any noise, so no sleep. The 2nd night my neighbour must have a bladder issue as I all I could hear was someone peeing next door (again the walls are very thin) all night. The next night the people who were staying across from me and next to me were causing a lot of noise and shouting - they then preceded to beat up the night porter at reception!!! The police unfortunately took 3 1/2 hours to come out so I don't think anyone got more than 3 hours sleep that night. I tried to find another hotel but everything was booked up so I had to put up with it so the rest of the week was similar. The reception staff were on the whole not very receptiony apart from one. The bathroom was not the best with yellow stains on the sink and bath from where the cold taps were dripping! I ended up asking my new landlord if I could move in early as they were having another party on the ground floor so no sleep would have been had. And finally I got my receipt given to me (as this was paid externally) and they charged me £8.50 for breakfasts when I had never eaten any of the breakfasts!!

I enjoyed my visit to basinstoke but was disappointed that there was no tea or coffee in the rooms also whren I went down for breakfast there was none left we asjked the person in the bar he was quite shocked it had all gone we then waited for more items to arrive even then we only had a sausage and some scrambled egg no orange juice was offered as it was empty also only had 1 coffee offered and no toast offered I appreciate breakfast times are busy we will be coming to basingstoke to visit family on a regular basis and we hope that we can stay with the red lion at all times but I was very disappointed with the breakfast but the staff were nice , I am in a very customer focused job and and expect to see other people in the same role to adhere to customer needs as in thinking outside the box sometimes and checking on these type of things thankyou otherewise we did enjoy our stay

The car park was handy, given that the hotel is in the town centre. Surly staff. No ironing facilities for business travellers. Food at dinner and breakfast was of very low quality indeed.

My only complaint is the noise. Obviously it is in the city and near bars and clubs so there was a lot of outside noise. But there was also a lot of noise from inside. People laughing, talking and even shouting at 12 or 2 am when people are trying to sleep. Otherwise the staff were excellent friendly and helpful. The facilities were great. The location was excellent for the shops and the train and the bus station.

Very clean and friendly, close to the local theatre, and plenty of good places to eat as well as shopping. This hotel is excellent value for a weekend break.

This hotel is comfortable, close to rail and bus stations, also shopping. Only 45 minutes from central London and good value for money. The hotel could do with having the floor boards secured to stop creaking.

Staff are friendly and the hotel is well located in the old High Street. The deal that I got on this particular weekend made it seem the perfect place for my needs. My room had single glazing and faced into the back yard of the local night-club, Saturday night was rowdy with drunks until around 3am. This is not the fault of The Red Lion but they should install modern windows to protect their guests.

Conveniently located and within 5 mins walk to mall and bus station. Hotel itself is quite average. It suited me perfectly as I could go out to eat and catch the bus/train whenever required. Staff was polite. Overall for 55p per night is was a good deal. The washroom had separate taps for hot and cold water!! So you could only choose between burning hot or icy cold water to freshen up. Shower/tub was ok. Windows need better sound proofing as it can get quite noisy if there is heavy traffic or a rowdy group out on the road.

Price was good, food was acceptable if not quite 'gourmet'! Most important to us was the location which meant we did not have to worry about taxis. A short walk from the Anvil Theatre.
