Location. Room 10. Bath took an age to drain, even after a simple shower. Sort the plumbing!.

The bed was comfy and clean. I never complain about anything (and my mother always tells me off!) but I think I need to with this hotel - please do not stay here unless you want to witness assaults in the hotel and hear people peeing! I stayed there for a week as I had moved down to Basingstoke for work and it was giving me the opportunity to find somewhere to live. The first night there was a "Do" downstairs and it was like the dj was in bed with me the music was so loud. The don't have anything in the walls to buffer any noise, so no sleep. The 2nd night my neighbour must have a bladder issue as I all I could hear was someone peeing next door (again the walls are very thin) all night. The next night the people who were staying across from me and next to me were causing a lot of noise and shouting - they then preceded to beat up the night porter at reception!!! The police unfortunately took 3 1/2 hours to come out so I don't think anyone got more than 3 hours sleep that night. I tried to find another hotel but everything was booked up so I had to put up with it so the rest of the week was similar. The reception staff were on the whole not very receptiony apart from one. The bathroom was not the best with yellow stains on the sink and bath from where the cold taps were dripping! I ended up asking my new landlord if I could move in early as they were having another party on the ground floor so no sleep would have been had. And finally I got my receipt given to me (as this was paid externally) and they charged me £8.50 for breakfasts when I had never eaten any of the breakfasts!!

The food was good when I had a meal in the evening. The bar manager was very customer focused. The conduct of one of the barmen was very poor. He told a customer he would bring him a dring and after 5 minutes I noticed he had not brought the drink so I had to ask him. He argued with his manager in public. Getting out of the car park was impossible if you did not get out of your car to put the coin in the barrier column (not good if its raining).

Friendly helpful staff and well appointed rooms. The only critism I could apply is that the breakfast was not as hot as I would have liked but the food quality was very good.

The Red Lion offers good value for money and is located in a very central location in the town for resaurants, bars and clubs. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was fine. Would use the hotel again.

It was convenient for my business meeting The room was a bit shabby and very overpriced. It was quite cold, and there was only a very thin duvet and a grubby cover on top. The bed was not comfortable. The shower did not work. When I mentioned this at reception they merely told someone to mend it. I would have liked an apology or an offer of compensation, or just an acknowledgement that I hadn't had all I had paid for.

Cheap and functional, with free car parking Room decor was dated, carpet was old, worn and stained. Breakfast was poor, scrambled egg was barely eatable, bacon overcooked.

Close to the town centre, great location, walking distance to cinema, shops, bars, restaurants and clubs. Rooms very dated and in need of modernising, old style windows gave a draft even when closed.

Nice friendly staff. My room was lovely with a really comfy bed. The bathroom was spotless with plenty of hot water. All the service was quick, friendly and efficient and I wish I'd stayed longer I was attending a christmas party there and I think they could have used more bar staff, but the staff that were working were fantastic

My friend and I came to Basingstoke for Christmas shopping and the location of the Red Lion Hotel is perfect - right opposite the main Festival Place shopping centre. The hotel is good value for money and the staff were all friendly. Good breakfast too! I didn't have a bath in my room, which would have been lovely after a very busy day shopping!

We stayed as 9 ladies on a shopping weekend and we choose this hotel for its close location to the shopping centre. When we arrived we were welcomed and checked into our rooms with ease and no problems. All of our rooms were clean and comfortable. We all had a hearty breakfast on the saturday morning followed by a full day of shopping,on saturday evening we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant where it surpassed our expectations, the food was lovely and the staff very attentive, especially our waiter Ian.We were quite rowdy and in high spirits, this is something we do every year together before xmas and this year has topped most of them so far.We had breakfast sunday morning and spoke to some other guests who all seemed to of had an equally good time, and we left with a promise to return in the new year.

Staff friendly, helplful and efficient. Close to all ameniities required - especially theatre. Parking a real bonus in town. Staff managed to produce extension leads for medical equipment with no fuss or bother at all. Mattresses!!!!. Springs in all directions - had to sleep on top of duvet and bedspread to eliminate hard spots. Please try to invest in some form of mattress toppers - less expensive that new mattresses and it would show that you were trying to be customer friendly. No extractor/ventilation in bathroom.

I stayed as a single traveller on business and I found my single bed smelt and was very old. The room was very poorly decorated with a rusty vent in the bathroom. I would not recommend this hotel and I told the receptionist of my dissatisfaction. The price is too high and should be less than £50 inc breakfast instead of £82 plus breakfast.
