Red Lion

The location was excellent as I was staying whilst competing at a local Agility competition, both I and my dogs were made welcome by the landlord and landlady and will most certainly book again for the agility festival next year.

Would have been even better had they been serving food but I think this was due to a kitchen refurbishment but I did go a little hungry

No food in pub had to drive to next village for breakfasts But landlord sayes food will be available sometime soon

Cliff and Jane were very friendly and relaxed. Made me feel very welcome. Jane does a very nice evening meal for a lot less than fish and chips. Definately go back

The landlady was welcoming when I rang to book in late and offered to prepare a meal for me although they had stopped cooking.

As per website rang number, no answer, left message. On arriving found a mobile number on door, rang number, it was answered, then had to wait for someone to come to let us in. The room at best could be described as basic. bed, 2 small bedside cabinets and TV. No wardrobe, had to haqng cloths on back of door. Very small sink in bathroom, no mirror over sink, difficult to shave etc. No glass to rinse mouth after cleaning teeth. Althougth booked for 2 nights, left after one and found accommodation elsewhere

The staff were very friendly, room was clean and comfortable, the restaurant was very nice and breakfast was very good!!!

Maybe better lighting in the bedroom?

Tv did'nt work and staff unwilling to try and do anything about it. Room was tiny. No food.

There is absolute nothing to like about this hotel/caravan. Its an insult to think that a place like this can be called an hotel. There was absolute no human contact since the Landlady checked us in. This the hotel that never was.

1. Too Remote 2. Its a caravan. 3. Very filthy and unhygenic as the entrance is littered with faeces. 4. All sort of creepy crawlies are co-habiting with us. 5. Shower taped together by duck tape 6. It's red for cold water and blue for hot water at the red lion. 7. Very dark and spooky in the night as there is no exterior light and no service desk to access. Basically it is back to the dark ages at the Red Lion.

Close to Stoney Cove Dive Centre. Single room, so no single supplement.

Nothing, even the pub was shabby and unclean!!!

It was a cold portacabin that was not clean, bedding smelt damp as the room was, cobwebs all around the room, broken shower heads held together with duct tape, on the sinks, you had to hold them to turn the tap on, dangerous path leading to the portacabin and no external lighting working. All in all, it was the very worst place I've ever stayed.

Departing the next morning.

The accomodation was described as the "cabin" conjouring up pictures of an inviting log cabin, the reality was an old portacabin with windows and doors that didn't close properly. It was home to a great many insects that we could see and probably many more that we couldn't. It was almost impossible to sleep on the beds especially the one where the springs were clearly visible. The portacabin had an unusual aroma of cigarette smoke and urine. I know that this is budget accomodation but a tent would be more comfortable.

It looked OK from the outside. There was a game of flood-lit boules in progress in the garden. I thought it might be a cultural oasis.

The Red Lion felt like an old worn out country pub. Carpets were musty and it was dark in the bar. No reception area to speak of. The room was a single room more like a corridor with a bed in it. The TV didn't work for more than a few seconds at a time. The free WiFi wasn't working. The room had a shower and one small towel, no little bottles of shampoo and no soap. I went to the Co-op up the road just before it closed that night and stocked up on luxury shower-related products. The next morning only cold water came out of the shower. To be fair the water was hot the night before but I didn't want a shower then. I thought it best to shower after sleeping in the bed. I didn't get much sleep that night. The booking was for room only and there isn't an option to have breakfast. I had an Oats-so-simple porage breakfast ... simply add water from the kettle. The kettle was a working kettle and I had about 3 cups of tea that night and contemplated my predicament. Thankfully I only stayed the one night.

My son's room was satisfactory at an acceptable price but see below.

My wife and I were extremely disappointed in the "cabin". At no point was it made clear that it was, in fact, a Portakabin. It was not physically possible to secure and lock the internal door, the toilet suggested a waste outlet problem evidenced by the unpleasant smell, the window showed much evidence of insect life (large spider descended on bed) and the only form of lighting was by tubes. The shower head was "fixed" by tape to the broken mounting. There was a TV but it proved to be analogue without a set box. There were no mattress covers provided and a kitchen unit door fell off. The brick path to the "cabin" was in a poorly maintained condition and would be potentially dangerous in the dark for an elderly person.

Leavibng the next morning

Less than basic .... Not even any soap. 1 room in a portacabin with no fixings for the shower and bed springs protruding. No breakfast option

Potacabin,clean but full of insects,still got the bites to prove it, shower head broken and taped up,doors dont close to bedrooms or toilets, doors on kitchen units fell apart,owners said (oh yes we had a flood) overall very poor

i like everything about Red Lion from the rooms and the services provided by the staff .

There is nothing i didn't like about Red Lion.

It said breakfast was included in the booking, the landlady said breakfast wasn't included. Booking.com needs to sort this out.

Landlady very friendly and pub itself ok The Cabin was quiet at night.

Our stay was in the Cabin . Should have been called the Porta Cabin. All fiitings very worn and shabby, door falling off sink, tv did not work .Landlady said this was because of the storm the day before, but another review in April said tv not working then.Long Storm! The kitchen had no fridge just a space where one used to be. It reminded us of some of the youth hostels we stayed in in our younger days.

The only good thing was the friendliness of the Manageress. I would not describe this as accommodation that is acceptable . It is grubby, with no facilities that you would be happy to use. The mirror was propped up behind the toilet cistern and unless you were a midget was not able to be used. The tv did not work. (No picture) The blind at the window was broken and the bed was not too safe- The whole place needs to be totally renovated- Not my idea of being described as a Hotel!-It was so bad that we almost left at 02.30am.

No wardrobe or dressing table - plastic curtain around shower (not at all hygenic and was not an option to use- tiny sink- carpet that you did not want to walk on bare footed. Very Stale and smelly. Disgusting presentation of accommodation.

For the price of a room in a hotel for a family of 4, we got a whole apartment. This meant we could put the kids to bed at a reasonable hour and have some time to ourselves in the lounge!! Perfect! The bed linen was spotless and the place was clean.

It was a bit noisy from the pub though we were expecting that, that is what you get for staying in a pub! Bad points....the booking stated bed and breakfast...we didn't get breakfast. There was no check in time stated on the booking, we arrived at 1 and the pub was shut. Noone answered the number on the booking or the one on the pub door. We were lucky someone just happened to turn up to do something at the pub and let us in, we had no way of getting hold of anyone and were facing the prospect of having to book in somewhere else. This is definitely a budget option, the whole place could do with fixing up!
