The location is perfect to explore the dales and the hotel is located right next to the river with excellent walks . The bar is well stocked with a variity of good real ales . The Food in the resturant was really good with plenty of choice and good value , breakfast was also good and certainly sets you up for the day.
Seating in the main bar was a bit limited,
the hotel and the setting
some of the food orders were wrong adding to waiting time
Loved position at side of river views were stunning..
Staff could have been friendlier to be honest..did their job efficiently but without much pleasure.rarely smiled or interacted except when they had too..didnt feel any warm friendly enviroment within hotel..shame beautiful old inn ..stunning location if bit remote but lacked warmth of other inns we have stayed in.we had a meal 1st evening.was ok nothing special to justify the expensive price tag..and rooms in manor inn was clean but very small for price paid..
My evening meal was superb, our room had a beautiful fire and was really cosy and romantic.
My partner had a well done steak for the evening meal, which was quite bloody. His side of the bed had a significant depression in it and his sleep was unsettled, his breakfast order was a bacon sandwich which was poorly presented and consisted of two slices of stale half buttered bread chopped in half with a slice of cold, hard and dry bacon in each half,.... would have expected more after the evening meal was so beautifully presented and delicious.
Lovely stay , all though didn't have any phone signal x
The peace and quiet of the room and the relaxed atmosphere in the hotel. In a peaceful relaxingDales location.
The staff are brilliant, we got a free room upgrade, food may be pricey but it is delicious, clean room, quality toiletries, one of the best beds we've stayed in. Beautiful surroundings. This is the second time we have stayed here and it will not be the last.
Brilliant pub and staff where great. Food wonderful and accommodation clean, comfy and homely would definitely stay again.
That I couldn't stay longer
Friendly staff, cosy lounge, super stay at the Red Lion
Wifi doesn't work in the room
Room brilliant although the mattress probably needed replacing. Staff were very obliging and there was an excellent choice at breakfast and of course the location
On 4 different occasions I was charged 4 different prices for the same 2 drinks. The vegetables served with the evening meals required more variation
The people and venue.
The bedrooms in the Manor House are very small, especially the toliet.
We made a reservation at about 7pm on 24th Dec to stay the next night (just one night). The room they allocated to us was dreary and painted chocolate brown, very dismal. It was an attic room with a small window and a long life bulb in the wall light that hardly lit the room. No bedside lamps and electric cabling or ducting on the brown painted wall facing the bed. And a tv the size of a small cushion. We didn't even unpack but told them we couldn't stay and drove back home. The manager was very rude and uncompromising and the hotel have taken money from our account. Ruined our Christmas day.
Location, Room, Staff
Poor phone signal and very poor WiFi only available in bar area .... that was very weak
Location Food Staff Beer!
Bathroom facilities; inconsistent water pressure, temperature, bed too soft, no separate shower.
Warm welcome and lots of lovely staff in the bar and restaurant. Festive decorations and plenty of mistletoe. Home made mince pies waiting for us in the room with clementines and if we had wanted it, wood for an open fire, and CDs to listen to. Great food in the restaurant. Beautiful scenery and snow topped hills outside.
The bed was an old fashioned type and very attractive to look at but the mattress and pillows were also vintage. A thicker modern mattress would have made all the difference to comfort as well as thicker feather pillows.
Food, staff, location, friendly, great shower, good size room.
Room decor was a tiny bit dated, but really wasn't a problem
Lovely stay. Breakfast was fantastic! Defo stay again!
Comfortable bed good shower Molton Brown toiletries Robes meal in restaurant excellent lounge room very relaxing with open fire
No cups in room and no answer on reception so had to go down to the bar for cups at 11.20pm Only 2 biscuit and they were broken in jar. Tea & Coffee cold at breakfast so had to send it back.
Qwirky traditional homely setting Good food Big room Own entrance
Bit too hot at night
We like the location and the country pub atmosphere. The breakfast was excellent.
The room was really poor being small and in desperate need of refurbishment. It was impossible to tune the shower to the right temperature, it was either boiling hot or freezing (other guests had the same problem). Very poor value for money.
The Red Lion is our favourite place in Yorkshire. The staff are warm & friendly. The accommodation is excellent in the Manor House and Red Lion itself and the food is fantastic We try to stay at least twice a year and visit more often than that. I feel it is the most wonderful dales break venue above all others! Cannot wait to go again
Unfortunately unable to eat in the restaurant as hired out for a private event, but the food served in the bar area was very good , had kippers for breakfast which were excellent.
May be worth checking if there is a private function on as unable to sit in lounge after dinner.
Warm welcoming log fires, friendly staff x
The log fires were lovely and it was very enjoyable coming in from the cold in December and relaxing in the lounge by the fire.
