The ambience and "country house" feel is well presented and provided a relaxed yet efficient feel to our stay. The food and drink were both of high standard and again well presented. The excellent breakfast in the conservatory, on a fine sunny Saturday morning, with plenty of papers to browse, all combined to provide a lovely leisurely way to round off our overnight stay.

There was a problem with my booking through your web site and Redcoats advised that the hotel was full. I never received an email from booking.com to tell me this and it was only because I emailed the hotel separately on another issue that I found that the booking which you had confirmed to me was ok, was in fact not possible. I was very lucky in that the hotel then offered me a room. However I would appreciate it if you could clarify why I never received an email from yourselves later on to say booking was cancelled.

Only a minute drive from a1 motorway, this is what Old England is all about. Beautiful surroundings, a traditional, historic hotel with a lot of modern comforts and friendly staff. The breakfast was also very good. A very enjoyable stay.

The house itself is pretty, if a bit run down in places and the gardens are nice. The food was well cooked, very fresh and very well procured, if a little bland. Towels clean and fluffy. The management were very responsive when I complained about the room rate - which was too high for it's standard of furnishing. The accommodation block was absolutely awful, it's been very poorly designed and it's dark with a view of a crumbling barn. That aside, the standard of furnishing was appalling for a £94 a night hotel: there was a delapidated desk with splintering veneer posing as a dressing table, a curtain over a recess was the only 'wardrobe', you could see the toilet from the foot of the bed, one bedside table was a coal scuttle and the other was a small dining table - as far as cleanliness goes: there were huge mounds on fluff on the curtain pelmet, the toilet and bath were stained. I stayed here to attend a wedding, according to the other guests, every other hotel in this area charges about £50 a night.

Beautiful location, lovely gardens, attractive old buildings, big round gravel drive to the front, loads of character. Inside there are oak beams giving a genuine olde-worlde atmosphere. Breakfast was served in the glass conservatory overlooking the garden. Nice to see unusual items like devilled kidneys on the menu. We had one of the rooms in the adjacent stable block which was comfortable and quiet. Loved the underfloor heating in the bathroom. A superb stay - a pity we only had one night there.

The food is fantastic, expensive, but you pay for what you get! The gardens around the hotel are well kept and picturesque. The rooms on the website of bookings.com do not represent the accommodation you receive! I expected a semi four poster bed with an ample sized room only to get a small room filled by a small double bed!!! We checked out very disappointed the next day!! Not value for money and poor accomodation!!!!

The staff were welcoming and friendly. Our room had everything we needed. Dinner was a long drawn-out affair and the food was excellent. Breakfast was tasty too!

Redcoats is a homely hotel in the heart of beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. The food is excellent and the gardens and the rural walks right from the door unbeatable when it stopped raining! The bedroom we had was very comfortable. Our family party of 12 was very patiently and efficienly looked after for a beautiful Sunday lunch. We were not hurried and had a lovely day. We had an issues with the performance of our shower but this will be rectified when the refurb is completed. We were given a discount for this.
