Regent HotelEsplanade, Oban, PA34 5PZ Oban (Show map) Review score 6.3 Score from 156 reviewsThe Regent Hotel is prominently situated at the head of Oban's north pier and is close to the shopping center. It is also ideal for those who wish to take a steamer cruise or ferry to one of the many islands. The Regent, externally, is a combination of a Victorian private hotel with an almost perfect example of 1930's Art Deco design. Internally both buildings merge to provide an open and airy atmosphere with an array of well positioned public foyers and lounges. As a town center hotel the Regent cannot offer private parking although there is ample on-street parking on the adjacent pier. This 'disadvantage' does however mean that Oban's many shops, the distillery, the ferry terminals and stations are all within easy walking distance. Hotel Rooms: 81, Hotel Chain: Oxford Hotels & Inns.

The sea view, the breakfast and the staff. Luckily we only paid £150 for this room (originally £300) as the whole hotel was pretty shabby and in dire need of a refurb. The staff were lovely and I felt sorry for them having to work in a hotel this shabby. Faulty towers comes to mind!!

Regrettably I was disappointed with the hotel, whilst the room was generally clean it could all do with a proper deep clean & paint fresh. There was mould on the lid of the complimentary shampoo and filthy mouldy goo emerging from the bath sealant strip from which I saw some beasty emerge. The closed metal-framed windows in the reception lounge let in smoke from the smoking area outside; the whole place was crummy and needed a good makeover. The Waitress at breakfast was coarse, the cooked breakfast was shoved down in front of me and had no presentation that you would expect from a hotel, albeit a 2 star.

I afraid to say the experience was very poor and I would advise anyone not to stay at this hotel. Indeed, I emailed my family from my room to say I was staying at the Oban version of Fawlty Towers !! Welcome on arrival and information given on dining options etc was very poor. Bedroom in need of decoration, some stains on bedding, view from room resembled a builders yard, bathroom door wouldn't close properly, toilet flush barely worked. Service in the restaurant was shocking, cutlery was dirty and the evening meal was disgusting. On a slightly more positive note, the breakfast next morning was a little better.

That we didn't have to pay the booked second night, because of the poor cleanliness of our room we left after one night scratching our skin under the cover. The bathroom wasn't clean and also our bed cover wasn't fresh. We left after one night.

I have nothing positive to say other than the location regarding this hotel. I holiday a few times each year both home and abroad and this is one of the worst hotels i have stayed in over the last few years. I'm shocked that such a poor standard of hotel still exists especially in a beautiful spot like Oban. There is no excuse for this. It is run down but that is not an excuse for how dirty it is. Staff other than the receptionist very unhappy looking. There was no sign of a uniform in the dining room and we were shown to a table that had been used and not cleaned.

Badly needs updating and some basic repairs. Our room was in the older part of the hotel. The passage to our room had a leaking roof. The door to our room stuck. There was mould on the curtains. The shower didn't work properly. The shaving socket in the bathroom didn't work. There was a crack in the toilet basin and the seat wasn't attached properly.

The location of the hotel is good. Effort is made to have the rooms to a good standard however the lack of attention to ceiling and bath defects along with the cobwebs made our stay less comfortable. We stayed in the old part of the hotel and have booked for next year but requested a room in the newer part of the building.

We liked the art deco style of the hotel, the breakfast staff were friendly, but I wouldnt expect them to be any other way.the room was warm Our view was ugly, and old buildings outside our window were being demolished at the time so were were treated to a jcb and workmen outside from 7 in the morning.asked the rather smarmy English desk clerk for a move, was told nothing was available although 10 seafront rooms became available the next morning,we would definately not return to this hotel, very run down.

The location of the hotel was excellent. When we arrived at the Regent we were given the keys to two rooms, one of which was not listed on the card/booking form, but they were opposite each other. After two hours, a couple entered the room with a key, they left and returned ten minutes later with an upset member of staff, who said I was in the wrong room and would have to move. I went with the staff member to the room on the bookibng form; at the other end of the hotel; This room was small and cramped, the furniture (the wardrobe) fell to bits, and the room was damp (the end of the bed next to the wall was soaking.).

“Excellent central location, close to ferry terminal, train station and shops, with plenty of good eating places - particularly seafood. Hotel itself was comfortable with freindly staff. Although the building was old it was refurbished to a high standard to retain its character.” Allan, Newton Mearns |
