Our first impression was what a Grand Looking Hotel and although it may need a lick of paint here and there but what an lovley Atmosphere. The gentleman on Reception was great, very helpful and sorry i did not get his name. Our bedroom was very spacious and a Glorious view of the sea. Some other reviews were not so good but I must disgaree with all of them, if you want a 4star Hotel then got to the Hilton this Hotel has survived two world wars and is very Historic and has a lovley feel when you walk in. The Breakfast was great with everything you could ask for and it was waitress service which was another bonus, so overall if you want a Hotel with character, nice staff, clean rooms and lovley meals and exzcellent location then you must try THE REX.

i liked the fact that it was very clean even though a bit tatty in places i didnt like that fact that there was a nightbclub below that had no sound proofing whatsoever and the music could be heard throughout the hotel until the early hours of the morning. This meant that i nor my children get a good nights sleep and rest

Location, sorry that's all I enjoyed. On arrival the receptionist was poor and very unorganised. We had 4 rooms 2 rooms the locks on the door didn't work properly and because of this a drunken stranger worked into the room 4.10am he should have been in the room next door but his key worked because of the dodgy lock. In another room when arriving back at 2am the electric didn't work so had to change rooms. The hotel us very dated with tiles missing in the bathroom. Breakfast was average. I will definitely stay at the Windsor next time.

Our first night we had a good room and a good breakfast Our second of 3 nights was interrupted by hotel nightclub til 3am. We tried other rooms but all were too noisy to sleep. It felt like the room was shaking with a contstant thud thud noise. There was no way we were going to stay on the 3rd night (Friday) as the nightclub was going to be open again. I trtied for the best part of an hour to get our 3rd night payment back from the hotel so we could book in somewhere else. Eventually succeeded but only after a lot of rudeness from the hotel staff. Would never advise anyone to go there. Completely unprofessional staff.

This place is a dump. Windows in room padded with toilet paper to stop the wind blowing through. Toilet roll holder missing. Ancient tv with valves that takes three minutes to warm up. Only one towel in room, light bulb above bed broken, and the list goes on. Only a handful of guests in-house, yet we were stuck at the back with a view of the fire escape.! Saving grace was breakfast, hot and enjoyable. Would I travel from oz and stay again.? No.

The location, which was right on the sea front plus a room with the sea view. Room was very big, clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice. The hotel was a bit run down and was in need of a lick of paint, but it wasn't unacceptable. In some ways it added to its character. The bar was basic but we were able to get a drink when we came back in at night. Due to the time of our visit, just after Easter, Sunday to Tuesday, it was a bit quiet.

The view from the bedroom The hotel was really scruffy dark and uninviting there was tape on the stairs were the carpet was ripped and it was desperate for decorating the bedroom was big with a large bed but very old fashioned the bathroom was dirty and in the morning when we woke the sink blocked and overflowing it was a right mess did not have breakfast there as it was not the type of place I would choose to eat in there for 2 nights and the bed wasnt made and no clean towels would definately not recomend it was a waste of money

Breakfast and location. Breakfast Waitress and Night Porter This once beautiful landmark hotel has been let go completely. The day we arrived 1 untrained (though friendly) member of staff was running the building alone. We had been travelling for 4 hours, a tinny radio was playing at reception (no proper background music) we couldn't get a drink from the bar or a meal from the restaurant , those facilities are only available at weekends apparently. The Lovely old rooms were cold but clean. The corridors and lobby were full of old lamps and clutter. The lift had graffiti all over it. The great night porter and the lovely girl at breakfast were excellent as was the breakfast itself.

Good location - right on sea front Plenty not to like: - threadbare carpets - graffiti in lift - no hot water 2 days out of 3 stayed - restaurant shut in evenings - "free" wifi does not reach bedrooms - poorly maintained bathroom fittings - unprofessional reception staff - very noisy nightclub underneath keeps you awake all night from Thursday to Saturday

The Staff at breakfast were very friendly and the food was good. Location on Sea Front is good... but spoiled by the nightclub next door. The room was dirty, there was a crusty residue around the window. There were tiles missing in the bathroom and the shower was in very poor condition. There were 2 settings, scald or freeze! There was very much noise until aprox 4.30 am from the nightclub downstairs and I was on the 3rd floor. My girlfriend decided to join me at 10pm (as I had advised that she may) on the evening of my stay and I was not allowed to upgrade my room, they refused her entry unless I bought her a separate room. For the price I ended up paying, I could have bought a double room at a far superior hotel around the corner. Although breakfast was good, it felt (I imagine) like I was eating at a 70's greasy spoon as there were old paper tablecloths on all of the tables. This was a last minute choice and I will not be staying here again.
