Staff were very attentive and helpful at all times. Room was very nice with good facilities, nice toiletries, nice robes, good tea/coffee facilities. Breakfast was excellent, not rushed, good food. Grounds are wonderful (would like to see them in the summer). Location good for walkers, ramblers, picnics. There was no bar food menu which varied from The Grill menu. Would have liked to have seen more ordinary food available. The dinner menu in the Grill could have had more choice with more varied vegetables. Very expensive at min £45 per person before drinks. The dinner menu in the main restaurant was too exclusive with too much emphasis on fine dining. Food was first class, but a choice of some roast meat, potatoes and vegetable dishes would be more to the taste of some guests. Excellent for those wanting a five star meal every evening costing £72 minimum for two. Was disappointed could not book any spa treatments as whole 4 days of my stay were fully booked. This may be the case for late bookings as they need plenty of notice as it is used by day customers as well as guests. Indoor pool difficult to get in and out of for me so did not use. Prefer to just walk in, not ladder. Spa pool is open to children during the day, we would have preferred it to be adults only.

While the main hotel is original, the rooms are modern and well equipped. What lets this place down is not the friendliness, but the quality of service, especially given the prices. The hotel is in a super location in the new forest and the staff were very helpful with our two babies. Main restaurant dinner service was good. Lunchtime burger was also very very good, but no chips, which there really could be for £15... The quality of food or service didn't justify the exorbitant prices for drinks. We ordered a bottle of wine (£28, screw top), because £15 seemed too much for a large glass, but the bottle was brought but not opened for us, let alone poured. The table we had breakfast at, still had the crumbs on the floor from the night before. Nothing too bad, just not good enough for the price. We had lunch with bottle of wine, gin & tonic, dinner with bottle of wine and 1 night accommodation with breakfast and the bill was £360... Ok if the service had been better and the food exquisite. It was good, but we've had much better. Recommend only based on room and location, not on food or value for money.

It was like taking a step back in time. The exterior of the building was like an old castle. We were quite excited. The food was very good. None of the rooms are in the "Castle Part" of the hotel. They are in a modern addition and were sparse, no air conditioning in one room, bad air in the other. They did provide fans. This was a huge disappointment because there is none of the ambiance of a Castle - that part of the building is reserved for time share units. The website doesn't let you know this.

Very happy with staff.all very polite and helpful.really made us feel special, with complimentary champers x4!! And letting us have breakfast in the fantastic morrocan style room.loverly setting.would most certainly recommend to others and stay again. My only critisism would be the cost of drinks at the bar,i appreciate it is not a travel lodge style budget hotel.but we live and drink in london and I think 7.50 for a g&t and 5.50 for a bottle of cider is not only steep, but a bit outragous, even in an expensive pub you would only expect to pay 8.50.also a very limited cocktail range, even most basic unavailable.that said the staff were very polite, and friendly and the mojitto was nice

The location of the Rhinefield House Hotel was fantastic for walking/cycling through the beautiful New Forest. The hotel itself was beautiful with magnificent grounds - all of which were in excellent order. Having read previous reviews we were not sure what we were going to find, however a recent refurbishment programme has obviously been taking place (and still was in progress in some areas!). Our initial room allocation was OK - but painting/decoration of the corridors outside was in progress on our arrival. This was not a good welcome - the smell of the paint was horrific and would not have made our brief stay very nice at all. When we asked to be moved this was accommodated with no real problems. It was just a shame to have been put in this position if not necessary in the first place. Air conditioning needs to be looked at carefully in this hotel. The room/s were ridiculously hot (even with the portable unit switched on all night!) and the windows wide open. The heat resulted in sleep not happening easily and when we eventually drifted off we overslept and nearly missed breakfast.

Fantastic situation for exploring the new forest on foot. Afternoon tea and Grill Bar food absolutely delicious as were freshly baked pastries in the morning. Breakfast in bed at no extra cost- superb! The beds were hideously uncomfortable. We were not sure if it was a ploy to encourage back massages!

The staff were extremely helpful. The hotel itself was beautiful and the breakfast was fantastic. We were upgraded to an executive room which was wonderful. The only negative was that the steam room was not working.

A lovely hotel in the forest, very peaceful and relaxing. We were upgraded as it was our honeymoon and brought a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room. Staff were extremely friendly and service excellent. Room very clean and comfortable, top marks for delicious breakfast in the room at no extra charge. We would highly recommend and will be coming back again. Restaurant very pricey and you are captive unless you fancy driving to the local towns. Food yummy despite the cost.

Good restaurant staff, good food. They classed a double room booking as pushing two single beds together! Ridiculous!! This was a surprise 30th birthday surprise for my boyfriend so I was very disappointed. When I asked them to rectify this whilst I had dinner they just made the bed again!

Set in beautiful New Forest which was stunning in autumn light. More of a volume hotel packing in the wedding guests than a peaceful weekend retreat. It was not what we expected from the website. If you want peace and quiet - avoid.

Really good food in the Armada Restaurant at dinner. Lovely setting and characterful room. Walks in the New Forest directly accessible from the hotel gorunds. Pleasant staff, particular the serving staff. Good tea making facilities and guest toiletries. Local apple juice at breakfast a nice touch. Not enough hot water in the evening, although staff were polite and helpful when we reported this to them and there wasn't a problem the following morning. It would be nice for a hotel in this price bracket to provide robes for guest use. Breakfast cooked dishes were a little on the cool side when brought to the table.

“Have known of hotel for years and the exterior has sometimes looked a little tired. I was pleasantly surprised by the internal decor etc. The staff were very helpful. Our rooms were excellent - far better than in much more expensive hotels in the area.Breakfast, again, was excellent. The swimming pool was certainly large enough for family to enjoy. Situated in the lovely New Forest with plenty to do in the surrounding areas. Would definitely stay there again and liked the reduced price I paid.” Lynn, Nash |
