Overview |
In lawned gardens, looking out over the waters of Loch Ryan, Rhins of Galloway has a beautiful and yet convenient location, between the 2 ferry ports of Stranraer and Cairnryan.
The guest house is just 4 minutes' drive from Stranraer’s ferry terminal and only a one-minute drive from Cairnryan, making it ideally positioned for the Stena Line ferries to Belfast and the P&O ferries to Larne.
With all the peace and quiet of an out-of-town, semi-rural location, Rhins of Galloway is nevertheless within a short drive of the area’s shops and eateries.
In a spacious and relaxed setting, all of the high-quality en suite accommodation is comfortable, clean and well presented.
Despite the style and stature of the building, the fact that there is no licensed bar or restaurant means that Rhins of Galloway is defined as a guest house rather than as a hotel. The premises are only open to guests.

Minimum duration of stay is one night. Maximum duration of stay is 5 nights.
The hotel supplies a VAT receipt as standard.
Breakfast is freshly cooked to order and is served from 07:30, with last orders normally taken at 09.00.
Breakfast is served in the large and bright dining room, which overlooks the loch, with the docking ferries at Cairnryan in the foreground and the mouth of the loch behind.
For early departures, prior to 07:30, a tray is provided with juice, cereal and a filled baguette for guests to enjoy in their room. This service is only available by prior request.
The building is surrounded by lawns that are frequented by hare, rabbits, pheasants and a huge variety of other birds. Across the road is a small embankment which used to carry the Cairnryan Military railway, beyond which is a beach, mostly pebble, but with sandy areas. The coastline can be walked along to Stranraer.
The mild climate has given rise to several botanic gardens in the area, including Logan Botanic Garden, advertised as Scotland's most exotic garden, a 25 minute drive away. Castle Kennedy, with its glorious walled gardens and monkey puzzle avenue is less than 10 minutes away, and the magnificent Culzean Castle and country park is about a 45 minute drive.
The area is ideal for walking and general relaxation. The picturesque fishing village of Portpatrick is a 15 minute drive, and Galloway Forest Park, Britain's largest forest park, is only 30 minutes away.
The position also makes Rhins an ideal overnight accommodation for travellers using the Stena Line ferries from Stranraer and the P&O ferries from Cairnryan, and provides a wonderful place from which to spend longer enjoying the unspoilt beauty of the area.
By Ferry:
Rhins of Galloway is 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Cairnryan ferry terminal. The journey north to Stranraer along the A77 has breathtaking views along the route, passing Ailsa Craig and the magical coastline around Lendalfoot.
P&O operate a ferry service from Cairnryan to Larne. Stena Line currently operate a service from Stranraer to Belfast, but are planning a relocation from Stranraer to Cairnryan.
By Rail:
Stranraer rail station is just 4 miles (6.4 km) away, and provides a direct link to Glasgow.
Parking:
Although Rhins has an extensive car parking area, large vehicles/trailers requiring non-standard parking spaces must be pre-arranged.
