Very friendly couple running it. Quiet and lovely location. We loved the genuine old world atmosphere and sense of history, four poster bed etc. yet having a whirlpool bath in our room. We ate in one evening and while a bit expensive the food was superb and nicely served with a few extras (apperetif, sorbet) in the very pleasant dining room. Coffee by the log fire in the oak panneled lounge completed an excellent evening. The bin was not emptied daily, neither were all the coffee-making items recharged but we did not make a fuss because they have only been running the business for a few months and are working very hard to make a success of it. Reading the earlier reviews I would say things are improving. |

The age of the buildings and the ambience. The log fires, great food. The team were great fun. The drinks and food though very good were very overpriced. |

Great Location, the period features are excellent, staff in the hotel also approachable and down to earth. We had a room in the main house which had a great vibe to it. Matlock / matlock bath close, great walks in the immediate area. Very relaxing. We really enjoyed the hotel The restaurant was less impressive. Very expensive (£20 a main) , comparable to London / Michelin prices perhaps. We were dissapointed with the food at that price range, some taste combinations that we've not come across before (Sea Bass with Raspberry Jus for instance). Had to wait so long after the main for service, we left and went back to the bar (c40 minutes) |

The solitude and peacefulness of the area, though not all that far from Matlock. Very restful. Room very comfortable. Not easy to find, could do with detailed directions. Didnt like the close proximity of the pathway round the building to our room window. Meant that the room windows couldnt be left open,or locked in a slightly open position, which I think would be essential in the height of summer as there didnt appear to be any air conditioning. There was also a lack of privacy when people were in the gardens and looked into the room when the curtains were open. |

Beautiful location with lovely countryside views. Riber Hall is a lovely olde worlde country hall full of interesting old furniture, pictures and other objects. Our room had a four poster bed and a very comfortable mattress. Lovely gardens with a conservatory and chairs and loungers for guests to use. The couple that run the hotel are very friendly and helpful. We also ate in the restuarant one evening and although not particularly cheap the food was very good as was the service. |

The garden areas were very tranquil The WC and Saniflow system overflowed, the bath water didn't empty, the TV and radion didn't work, and the hotel was clearly very tired and in need of decoration! A great deal of investment needed in this otherwise beautiful Elizabethan building. |

The setting and relaxed atmosphere were an absolute delight. The master double we stayed in was a great size and very comfortable. The food was fantastic. We visited at the same time as a large wedding party, and i think they were too short on staff, there were quite long waits for service. |

The building and the surroundings were beautiful and quirky. In a good location not too far away from amenities. Thought the hotel needs basic maintenence in some areas. I understand that the oweners have only been there for 3 months, however it was basic thinks like plastering holes, and a coat of paint. |

Surrounding countryside, good food, friendly staff, character of the property. Room smelt and was damp, bed very small and therefore uncomfortable, not cleaned every morning, needed refurbishing. Staff overworked as seemed to be only two people to do absolutely everything. |

Delightful new managers (their first day when we were there) couldn't be more helpful and seem determined to make improvements in services, food and prices. The historic hall and lovely gardens make for a comfortable and relaxed stay. Breakfast and dinner excellent. Bar prices high and wine list, though varied, also overpriced. Mould in fridge. |
