Situated in the centre of Edinburgh, the Motel One Edinburgh-Royal is 5 minutes’ walk away from the train station, and only half a mile from the Castle. Guests can reach the historical St.
Score from 3273 reviews Fabulous
Very affordable, close to Haymarket station and still close to castle/ city centre. Building and rooms have character very authentic.
Water pressure in the shower
Staff (night and day) all very friendly. Nothing too much trouble. Access to train, buses and walking. Good food outlets nearby. ATM bank machine a few doors away in secure location. Windows able to be opened!!
Nothing to report! Parking limited to 4hrs locally. Used Park & Ride - very ok as train travel was cheap. No train to P&R on sunday!
I likes the welcome we received from Ryan he was very friendly and engaged from the min we arrived he also gave us names of some good restaurants and directed us to were our concert was that evening. After reading the reviews I was a little apprehensive but to be honest if you want something fancy and modern them you would chose to go to the premier in or the Hilton if you are looking for some character then you wont be disappointed
Nothing all good
Bar staff helpful and friendly Hotel good location for access to places to eat and 10 minute walk from main shopping area Bed very comfy and no noise from other occupant so good nights sleep Plenty of local buses and trams and all day ticket a real bargain
I did not get the room I requested and there was no explanation as to why this wasn't honoured. We were told we were on the 1st floor but the room was on the 2nd floor and 50 stairs to climb to access. No food option. Décor and furniture dated and marked, e.g tear in lino on floor of bathroom and old drilled holes on the wall with no attempt to fill in. New looking paper on wall did not compensate for general shabbiness of the room. Better communication with customers would help, a simple 'is everything ok with the room?' would be a start!
Easy to find. Good location. Places to eat nearby.
Very loud outside room. Requested King size bed got a queen.
Location. Staff helpful & pleasant.
No breakfast but a continental style breakfast could be offered in the bar area. No fire evacuation schedule on bedroom door. Decor very jaded. No soap in room, just shampoo.
Nothing you should take this Hotel off your list.
We had to find our own Hotel and other clients we met said they
no elevators.. bar was too sparse no washcloths no wifi in room
Lovely small hotel. Even though there was a mix up with my room they were so apologetic and done what they could to fix it. Would definitely go back.
stayed two nights, first night i i thought i have a look around room which i was staying in single bed room, bed was older than me and drapes around bed were disgusting with dust on top, bed was falling apart ,then i went to bathroom needs to refurbished around bath was very dirty i cleaned the sealant when i was sitting on toilet and was not impressed ,i had been staying in hostel around corner and that is better value, better toilets
it was clean and comfortable. i felt safe in my room. the room was of adequate size and i was lucky enough to be on the first floor as i had requested not too mant stairs.
i wish they would do breakfast as well.
i liked the four poster bed it was very comfy
there was no draft beer
Staff has missed our booking Musty smell in the room Victorian (Old)
Room was beautiful and enormous.
Beds were very old and one could feel the springs in the mattress.
Reasonable price, good wifi, clean room.
The room and hotel in general is shabby, needs updating.
The staff were very helpful, location good for eicc.
Everything. This place needs a fortune spending on it. It is nothing like the photographs on the website. The place is falling to bits, needs a complete overhaul. There was not even any soap in the bathroom. My shower was scalding hot. No cold running through the taps. Awful 3 nights sleep. Early September and my room was freezing. Stay away from here.
Staff were polite
Paid for the best double room and got a 3 bed family room carpet was covered in patches this on top of there being no parking and the easiest place to park costing £25 a day I refused to stay and left within an hour
Location Friendliness of staff
Ancient and scruffy decor Bedroom window ceased partially open as frame was broken and rotten Tired bathroom Electrical items in bedroom over a year past their PAT expiry dates Double bed was 2 singles pushed together
Bathroom .. shower was completely rubbish. No breakfast included in the price. Room wasn't ready Duvet didn't have a cover It took two attempts at one in the morning.
Going out for the day !!!!! There was nothing to like
It was dirty and cold. The deluxe double, the room was tiny with stained carpet, the window would not open, only one lamp in the room, the furniture was broken/missing components. Wall paper coming off, ensuit floor very dirty and the light was hanging out of the ceiling. No resturant, no breakfast, no lift. Staff charmless, bar area had the ambiance of a morge!! This place needs money ploughing into it. Asked to be moved but was told they were full avoid at all costs.
Booking.com did not pass information to hotel that was important!! Special request the hotel did not have any information
Staff, character, great value 24hr bar, location, staircase
Could do with a bit of regeneration!
Very old, shower cold, no welcome pack in room, no soap and bed very uncomfortable springs coming up through it. Was charged far too much for this hotel with very poor facilities. Also no wifi in hotel rooms:(
Location. One of the staff members was excellent. Very old building with unique features.
Several of the staff were mediocre. Building needs to be refreshed. No elevator or help with the suitcases.
Poor/missing bathroom facilities. Cold room.
