Rooms had been nicely decorated and breakfast was nice
Service a little slow and staff could've been a little more attentive but they looked new and will get better I'm certain.
The cooked breakfast was good although the sausages were cheap.
It's the simple things that would have made our stay so much better: spare toilet roll, a pot of tea or coffee at breakfast rather than a cup, jam to go with the toast, wi-fi. There was mould in the bathroom, the whole place needs some cosmetic attention. It was difficult to get anyone's attention at breakfast due to them hiding in the kitchen most of the time.
The location was lovely-peaceful by the river. The three staff we met were teenagers trying to run the place.
Room not ready after 1300, dirty bathroom-wet carpets, stains, bed linens stained and ripped. No cleaning done and I did ask that the previous occupiers bathroom bin be emptied. No guest info, times for breakfast. We went down at 8.30am. No one in attendance, found the cook and he didn't ask or invite us to eat breakfast. The dining room was not clean and table linen soiled.They appeared to be struggling along. As I didn't know the area I put up with it for the night. But I shouldn't have accepted the room at all.
The location was really nice and the one member of staff we saw was very helpful.
Our room wasn't ready when we got there and the tea and coffee facilities were kept outside the room not inside. There was never anybody about and 1 member of staff seemed to be doing everything. The food wasn't worth the money and we had to serve ourselves drinks if we wanted one.
The only good thing I have to say about the hotel is that it is in a reasonable location overlooking the river Avon, although the view is slightly spolied by the poorly kept grounds.
I usually read negative comments & think that people must be very fussy with high expectations, but in this instance I feel that I must warn others, so where to start!!: My room, the 'penthouse suite', had not been cleaned since the previous occupants. This was evidenced by dirt & debris on the floor & surfaces throughout, soap scum within the bath, shower & washbasin in the bathroom, the bathroom waste bin had not been emptied containing waste from the previous occupants, the kitchen waste bin had no waste bag & contained rotting food/teabags & the sofa cushions remained in the same formation from the last person to sit on it as if they had literally just left. The bed linen had been changed although this was full of holes & the counterpane had some very 'suspicious' looking obvious stains, no towels had been left. The toilet was broken - wouldn't flush, with a 'handy' pan left in the adjacent bidet to fill with water to flush. The double glazed door from the bedroom leading to the balcony was unlocked & there was no key. I immediately (4pm) & politely explained that my room had not been cleaned, that the toilet was broken, that I had no towels & requested the key to the balcony door for security purposes. I was told that the receptionist was the only person there & that nothing could be done until after 7pm - at that point I went out. I returned at 8.30pm to be told that someone had 'run the hoover round' & that I had towels in my room, no-one could find the balcony door key. They were unable to get a plumber to fix the toilet until 10am the following morning. I was told that the cleaning staff all mainly belong to the same family & they'd gone on holiday together, as if that was a reasonable excuse. On re-entering my room, none of the surfaces had been cleaned, the bathroom waste from previous occupants remained & the bathroom was still dirty.

This is difficult because this was the worst hotel I have ever visited in my life. I have written to the Hotel complaiing in detail and have sent you a copy by Email. If yo have not received it please tell me where I should send a further copy. Some aspects of my complaints show what I consider to be very, very serious and yu MUT follow them up.
Not much. The hotel has potential. But a lot of work to be done: staff to be changed, completely to be refurbished.
Room not clean, sheets not clean. Bathroom a mess.
Well my first night was like a scene out of Faulty Towers, chefs night off but he was working as a bar/ waiter? no towels on arrival you got them between 7-10pm, if you wanted bath before that dip dry, Food not as good as they rate it. Floors all uneven they have traditional old floor boards 32mm, when they've been damaged or replaced they have used 20mm boards and carpet over and the room was on a slope, not good for any one with poor eye sight, ideal for contractors
Nothing about the hotel. We would not have stayed there but everywhere else was fully booked up.
The Hotel is very run down, car park is very uneven, not been finished. Floors had not been cleaned in bathrooms. No kettle, cups or spoons for drinks. No towels, had to ask for some. No bacon for the first breakfast. No cereal or toast and jam for second and they had run out of cups and saucers for breakfast so we had unmatched dirty mugs. The dining room hadn't been cleaned in the two days we were there, dirty table cloths. The window in the dining room had broken pains held together with cellotape and cushions pushed in to stop the draft. Not a very pleasant experience, worst place we have ever stayed at and we have travelled all over the world. I certainly would not recommend The Riverside Hotel to anyone.
the evening meal was a bloody disaster the young chef was not at fault it was due to very bad management.the stay was very overpriced no value for money .would not stay again unless they paid me

Friendly atmosphere & location
The owner is very excentirc and disorganised making for an interesting visit. Perhaps not so good if you were looking to stay for a longer period as this would become irritating
Hotel was very untidy. Staircase, doors, Windows not cleaned. Staff appeared untidy with food stains on clothes. Utensils, cutlery Tec not cleaned. No sausage served with full English breakfast. We were made to settle Bill on arrival, rather than during checkout. Staff did not appear friendly. No tea/coffee in room. Tea coffee in hallway not brought to our attention.
Beautiful views over the river and the valley. Outdoor areas are good for functions.
In general the hotel is "tired" and needs some refurbishment. The staff are willing but appear to be untrained. Access to the hotel is not easy to find if the area is unknown. (as in my case)

Did not come up to description - no guests apart from ourselves until the early hours of the morning when 2 more were booked in!! no candlelit restaurant, no tea/coffee making facilities in room. Very disappointed.
Our luxury penthouse that we stayed in 3 years ago has gone massively down hill. It appeared that someone had stayed here the night before and no cleaning had been done(for a very long time!!!) There was no cutlery, washing up liquid or t-towel. The pillows had hair on them and the towel had been used, dirtied and folded back up to be used again. I called a member of staff over re the towel and other things and he agreed that it looked as though someone had spent the night there. Off he went and nothing more was done about it. Please dont waste £140 as we did!
Setting of the hotel by the river
Our room had a bed with sagging mattress; felt like a hammock . The sink and bath tub were partially blocked.(yes , the bath tub - there was no jacuzzi as advertised .) The toilet didn't flush, and there was only a small toilet roll of tissue .

Rooms hadn't been cleaned. Management was woeful. Restaurant menu online had no resemblance to the menu on offer (which was pretty poor)

Location and look of the place were lovely, terrace with hanging baskets in flower made it look beautiful. Lovely old building with pretty views of the river.
The hotel was dirty, spiders and cobwebs everywhere. No tea and coffee available (it was on the landing for everyone but there was no milk and had run out of coffee plus a bag of rubbish was sat on the table next to it) The crockery and cutlery were filthy at breakfast which was set on dirty tablecloths from the night before. Seemed to be only one member of staff doing every job and he looked as if he had slept in his clothes. Not even sure the bedding was clean in our room as it didn't smell fresh (or look it!) there were empty beer bottles in our bathroom, the bin hadn't been emptied plus there were beard shavings all over the bin lid! Very disappointing as it could be a truly lovely place.

everything else staff tried but were young inexperienced and didnt really have a clue, room dirty- cobwebs, dust dead flies on sils, broken tiles as bathroom floor, windows dirty and needing paint and repair, toilet flushed occasionally,,,,the list goes on....
Nothing apart from the view
Terrible hotel.Totally overpriced.£90 For what? Dirty rooms , unclean sheets and door the would'nt lock. The mattress had broken springs poking up.Breakfast was a disaster .Crockery and cutlery were dirty. One poor waiter had to look after all the guests. Doomed to fail.On this point, this same young man seemed to do everything ! Front of house, room cleaner, waiter and barman and all badly. Didn't have dinner but apparently the chef left the night before and the hotel had to get a local in to cook !The outside was dirty too.An old blanket covered some rubbish in one corner.Seems to me that the hotel owner is deluded about how good the hotel is at best,but probably wants to make a healthy profit by inflating the prices without investing anything back.I Would not recommend anyone stay here and I believe you should not have this hotel on your books.
The full English breakfast was EXCELLENT. The bed in Room 1 was very comfortable. the single member of staff who seemed to be running the whole place for the weekend (except for cooking breakfast) did what he could under very difficult circumstances to make my stay as comfortable and agreeable as possible.
The new owners really do need to get on with the renovation/redecoration as soon as possible.
The location was excellent. It had a certain charm.
