In the centre of Monmouth, Bistro Prego offers comfortable en suite rooms in addition to an AA Rosette-winning restaurant.
Score from 86 reviews Excellent
Standing high above the Wye River, the Royal Hotel has fine river and countryside views. It offers traditional cuisine, free on-site parking and bedrooms with free Wi-Fi.
Score from 383 reviews Very good
Just across the England/Wales border, the Queens Head Hotel in Monmouth offers attractive rooms in the Wye Valley.
Score from 132 reviews Good
The hotel is nestled just below Symonds Yat Rock and stands exclusively in grounds of almost 5 acres, overlooking the river. It has terraced gardens of magnolia trees and a well established wisteria.
Score from 101 reviews Very good
Freshly cooked breakfast to order.
Wi-Fi far too slow - could not use easily.
The fact that a room was available when all else in and around Monmouth had already been booked by Roundhead impersonators staging battle re-enactments.
The lack of cleanliness; the tired decorative state; the noise from the street and from other guests; the vomit on the footpath outside the hotel; the price in comparison with e.g. Premier Inns which for less offer much more.
Lovely staff, wifi very good,a good nights sleep and excellent location.
Dated room...carpet is the main thing and the shower door needs changing!
douvle bed shouldnt be two singles with a double bedspread on.bath needed replacing and painting tiles doesnt class as a refurb.
The staff were excellent , they were helpful and very friendly, couldn't do enough for you.
The bedrooms were shabby and the bedroom next to us was a graveyard for old beds and mattresses , with no door to hide them. (The door was actually lying along the corridor, very off putting). Rooms were due a good lick of paint and needed updating. The twin beds were very uncomfortable and even though the windows were double glazed, we couldn't get to sleep until gone one o'clock in the morning because the rooms overlook the car park and outside seating area, there were people out there laughing and joking.
Nice staff and a decent breakfast
I stayed in room 12 and just before checking out I noticed a couple of small bugs on the bed, once home I checked and it seemed they were bed bugs. This was confirmed when few hours later when I came out in a large number of itchy bites. Avoid!
Great location and parking, handy for town centre and A40. Friendly reception but (as in negatives) didn't know whether the restaurant would be open for dinner. We ate instead at the Punch House in Agincourt Square, which was good value.
Room was rather tatty, especially the bathroom (an avocado bath? Really, in 2014?). Windows were dirty behind jammed secondary glazing, couldn't close the window against traffic noise. Restaurant didn't seem to be functioning in the evenings, but breakfast was OK.
Power shower Friendly staff Free parking
Broken window Loud traffic Wifi not available Noise from the bar below the room
Second time we stayed as we were pleased with everything the first time. Fab accommodation and excellent staff and service. We will be returning
Nothing. Pleased when everything
Location was good, near the main shopping centre, bars and eating places.
Hotel was misleading from the information and photos online. Decor was very dated needs a full refurbishment.
Near town easy to find Plenty of parking available Friendly staff
Restaurant ( Gourmet Society member) closed on an August Friday evening - amazing
central position for our purpose, meeting friends in monmouth
no sunday lunches
Every Think The welcome we recived from to boss and the staff was fantastic, down to earth and approchable it put the iceing on the holiday. Well done Riverside Hotel
Bed was comfy
Bathroom not clean, filth on windowsill, sink not clean
The noise from the two generators beneath room 11 all night. The greasy breakfast.
The staff were incredibly friendly and very helpful, the breakfast was OK, with a range of cereals, grapefruit and fresh coffee and cooked breakfast. The price was OK .
The room was very loud, there was no double glazing so you got the whole noise from the busyish road outside. The room itself wasnt particularly clean, the bathroom bin for example hadn't been emptied. Although it was a hotel there was no chef in in the evening. There wasn't a wide range of drinks at the bar, and the tap soft drinks were fairly flat. The bath was very small and the shower head wasn't moveable and so even for someone short had to bend down.
Rooms dated and not comfortable
Excellent customer care by the staff making me feel welcomed and valued throughout
The restaurant wasn't available the night I stayed.
Location Comfortable Bed
Windows hardly open No fans
Due to my mistake on the booking dates we turned up a day early. This was quickly sorted out by the guy at reception. Would recommend this hotel.
My partner was looking forward to jug of pims but they had run out fruit ! More fruit next time ha ha. This was the only fault.
Location and parking
The breakfast was very greasy.
Excellent value for money. Would stay here again. Monmouth ideal for esporting wye valley.
So close to the town. Friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable.
Noisy as on road - but then it is town centre location.
The staff in this hotel without doubt are the friendliest most welcoming I have met yet. As a young solo resident I felt welcomed from day one... So much so I rebooked for 4 weeks. Thank you x
Location for town was ideal
Noisy smokers out the back under our window
