There is an interesting mix of shops, arts arts and crafts, parkland, cafes and historical sites. The church is beautiful inside and is worth a revisit to take it all in. The historical buildings from different centuries side by side give it character and is a surprise each time you walk through an alley or turn a corner.
The food sold on the farmers market is a good quality and mix and the craft market is also high quality.
We will be revisitng.

The market square, overlooked by St John's church - 'the cathedral of the Cotswolds' is very beautiful. The church is staggering - very large and ornate - an architectural jewel. Parking in town was easy enough (April, Easter holidays).
The market outside the church (we were there on a Friday morning) was small but all of the stalls were interesting, with very high-quality fish, vegetables and bakery.
We ate well at our hotel, the Stratton House just out of town on the Gloucester Road.

Have never known a town with so many shopping arcades.
Have never known a town with so many shopping arcades.
Also a good market in the square on Friday & Saturday, a good variety of stalls.
The Corinium Museum showing the towns Roman past is well worth a visit.

We loved the small independent shops in the high street and the various arcades off the streets.
There was a great selection of places the eat or tea/coffee shops.
The town had an outdoor market on at least Fridays and the Corn Hall (indoor market hall and tearoom) also had an antique market at the time of our visit.
The Parish Church (also has a model of the abbey) and Abbey grounds (abbey was demolished on order by Henry VIII but the footprint and artist impression remain at the site) were also lovely but unfortunately we didn't get round to checking out Cirencester Park or the Roman Amphitheatre (just the earth mounds left).
We we staying within 10 minutes walk but the town had plenty of reasonably priced car parks which became free after 6 pm.
While the Parks offer activities for Children and if you love your Roman History the museum is a must, the town is nore aimed at couples and more mature adults.

Evening meal in the Fleece Hotel was excellent.
Evening meal in the Fleece Hotel was excellent. We travelled on the no 51 bus. Cirencester Parish Church is worth a visit. Enjoyed browsing books at Waterstones and the cafe there. The market is good too.

Strangely this year the cathedral was closed for sightseers - this may have been bad timing - repairs- there certainly wasn't any apparent services or anything similar when we visited town on xmas eve- or boxing day - a definite lack of 'busy' but it might be locals fed up with visitors - who knows but very quiet and uninspiring to be honest - luckily we were visiting family and apart from a lovely antique shop near the Cathedral - nothing to inspire anyone to come into town. Cafe's etc way over priced and wouldn't put London to shame.
The hotel was very clean and the staff were absolutely brilliant. It is in the town centre, everything was in walking distance.
The room was spotless and the beds were comfortable.
Old fashioned furniture gave it a decadent feel.
However, further plus that breakfast was amazing, plenty to eat. So was the dinner menu. The hotel has a beautiful pub style bar and garden too with plenty of parking spaces. Highly recommended. If I went back to Cirencester I would definitely book the same hotel.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful, what a great team.
After we checked in we enjoyed dinner in the pub and had had an amazing Beef Wellington. If this is your favourite, you will not be disappointed.
The following day it was a brief walk to the spa hotel for a delightful breakfast in the dining area over looking the gardens. The menu offered a wide selection of breakfast choices, we was spoilt for choice.
A lovely place to stay.
Breakfast was lovely. Felt like we were at home with our family. Lovely old building, lots of winding corridors - beautiful. Room was fine too. Staff very accommodating when we arrived early and needed to drop off our bags. Thank you. Staff were also very friendly and attentive at breakfast. The beds were very comfy. We came to Cirencester for a wedding, I think we will be coming back for a more leisurely visit in the not too distant future.
The family that owned the property were incredibly welcoming, accommodating and friendly. I felt very comfortable there and it is only a half hour walk to the town centre. It is a very peaceful neighbourhood/estate. My bed was comfortable and the room was generously sized with space to do exercise and a desk.
The shower was so powerful, which I loved. I'd definitely come back :)
We love this hotel! We have been there with our kids & Labrador and I have just come back from a fab girls weekend away there! It’s big, lots of facilities, lovely breakfast, friendly reception staff, lovely rooms…especially the ones overlooking the Lake. Marie (Maria!), one of the Managers was absolutely exceptional. She makes you feel like it is a top 5 star hotel!
We had our dog with us and we were restricted from eating a number of the hotels venues. We did have breakfast but had to sit in the lounge nearest the entrance. The breakfast room was self service and seemed understaffed there were tea and coffee machines and buffet style food counters , no staff spoke as they were all rushed off there feet
Our stay was wonderful and the staff were exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed using one of the lounges for games and drinks. The weather was super during our stay, and drinks on the terrace were a bonus, and the breakfasts were marvellous. I recommend Stratton House Hotel and Spa highly, and the staff are the reason for my rating.
I would not usually choose to stay at an expensive hotel but for a special occasion this hotel is good value for money. It is quietly understated welcoming, and cosy with excellent staff who go out of their way to make your stay the best ... special mention for Andy the gardiner who told us all about his chickens.
Very helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent. We only ate in the Brasserie and the food was of a good quality. The location was superb for a first visit to Cirencester. We parked the car on arrival and all places of interest were in walking distance.
Excellent breakfast with plenty of options
Lovely room with excellent facilities and nice shower
Pub is very cosy and comfortable
Only a 10 minute drive to Cirencester
Great for couples
Friendly waitresses at breakfast and evening meal
The room was excellent; very clean and recently renovated to a very high standard. The bathroom was immaculate, shower was beautiful and the location of the hotel was bang in middle of the town offering easy access to the shops and restaurants.
An amazing bathroom - spacious and luxurious. Great food both at dinner and breakfast. A lovely hotel with lots of character set in very pretty grounds. Always good to have parking, WiFi AND breakfast all included!
The staff were exceptional. They were polite, friendly, helpful and efficient.
Rooms were very clean and on a particularly cold weekend they were very warm.
The hotel was very centrally located in Market Square
The Room has quite large and it had a a comfortable bed. The Shower Cubicle was decent. There was Free Car Parking which was accessed around the back of the Hotel. The Breakfast was quite good as well
The apartment was spacious, the hotel is located in the middle of the town centre so only 1 minute walk to a lot of restaurants. The apartment was relatively clean and tidy. Check in/check out was easy.
The Eliot Arms is outstanding Cotswolds accomodation. The rooms are excellent and there is a quality bar and restaurant within the hotel. The staff are very engaged. I look forward to staying again.
Great facilities and rooms, very helpful and friendly staff. The restaurant attached to the hotel was very good for both breakfast and evening meals. A very welcoming place to stay.
Reception and restaurant staff in particular were all friendly but professional. Room service food was good and quick. Easy to get anywhere in the Cotswolds from the Hotel.
