Roker Lodge  

We booked the Roker Lodge last minute and on arrival we where upgraded to the hotel, this was a lovely clean room and ensuite bathroom was pristine.If you have trouble with stairs there are a lot to negotiate by nature of the building Breakfast was excellent well cooked and served with care.

Where do I start!! We arrived to find we had no electricity, and tge room was freezing. On phoning reception they said they would send someone to look at it, power was put back on but still no heating. In going into the bathroom there was no hot water do reception was contacted once again. In the morning we had to use our friends bathroom as we still had no hot water which was going to be fixed. On return to our room later on in the afternoon we still had no heating hot water and no water at all in the shower so yet again we had to borrow our friends bathroom. We found this very unacceptable, and I don't expect to stay in a hotel with no heating, hot water and no water at all in the shower. Apart from that the breakfast was good.

The room overlooked the sea and the furniture was lovely, especially the four poster bed. A bit confused at first as you have to check in a couple of blocks down at the Roker Hotel. The staff were good. The Italian restaurant was excellent value, had a lovely atmosphere and excellent staff.

Very friendly staff and good range of restaurants adjacent to the Lodge (I'd recommend the Italian Restaurant).

The room was very small (altough clean and ensuite) but this is to be expected considered the price paid.

Bar prices very reasonable when a member of the r bar Club.Meal theme nights quite good for a hotel.These features attracted local residents which helped with friendly atmosphere.The position for our requirements was excellent as our purpose was to visit relatives living nearby.Good sea front location.Breakfast was good with speedy service.

Tiles were missing from the walls of our room toilet & shower.A Window could not be closed properly & we were very cold during our first night & were unable to sleep.The extractor in the toilet allowed the wind to howl through making the area freezing.A Blow heater was placed in our room on our second and last night making it more comfortable.As in our room,the extractor in one of the bars also allowed cold air to blow in & the staff were unable to alter the situation.We also had to ask for a radiator to be turned on.This was 3rd. April to the 5th.(2012) & we all know what the weather was like then.Would recommend with reservations.

There was nothing to like about the Roker Lodge and not what I thought I had booked. It is not Best Western, but a Tavistock and a cheaper Hotel associated with the main Hotel. It was dark and dingy and not very clean either. The room was freezing cold, and the heating couldn't be turned on. The shower was very poor, the tv didn't work and there was no wardrobe to hang your clothes, not even a hook on the door. I was so disappointed with the room that we checked out after one night. The Lady who was on that day, did try to help us but there were no rooms in the Hotel and therefore we couldn't upgrade. My advice to anybody thinking of staying there is, dont bother it's the pits!!

Roker Lodge is poor, cold and tired. Not worth £52 per night

We chose this hotel at random because if it's proximity to The Stadium of Light (Sunderland). The fact that it overlooked the sea was a complete surprise and a lovely bonus!!.

I liked the fact that Roker Lodge was connected to the Roker Hotel next door, and that guests used the facilities of this Best Western Hotel when it came to breakfast, dinner or just having a drink. I liked the fact that it was situated directly opposite the beach, so views were great. I just had a single room in the lodge which was quite small, but clean, comfortable and affordable.

Good location and staff did their best to rectify problems.

Cooked breakfast not being available till 8am at weekends. Light over basin not working and was not fixable. Problem with shower but was fixed for next day. People returning through the night rather noisily but hotel can not be held responsible for other people's lack of consideration!

had no curtains in the room also no mounting for the shower head and loose tiles in the bathroom no tv remote when i turned up i had no reservation booked

I did not like anything about Roker Lodge and complained to the Manager after one night stay there . The Manager and his staff were great in resolving the situation and moved me and my wife into Roker Hotel for the second night which was brilliant and I could not fault it .

The room in Roker Lodge was awful There was no where in the room to hang your clothes . The television in the room was a analogue television and did not work. There was no Iron or hair dryer in the room which your book states are in every room . During the night aqll you could here was running water and in the morning when the room above put the shower on it sounded like a chain saw coming through . When we first got the key to the room the key did not fit and the attendant went to look for the correct key which gave me the impression that the room was not used . As it was a special weekend for my wifes Birthday im just so glad on the second day that the Hotel Manager Moved us into the Hotel

booked the Roker Lodge as it was short notice and the price was very good. Expected the room to be shabby and run down but was pleasantly surprised to see the room was above these expectations. small issue of no hot water but this was sorted out by the helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent and would stay there again!
