Just 6 miles from the foot of Ben Lomond, this friendly 4-star hotel has a quiet location, on the shores of Loch Ard. It has a spa, a select menu of wines and whiskies, and an on-site activity centre....
Score from 216 reviews Very good
Ideally situated to explore the natural beauty of the Trossachs National Park, this charming hotel is set in Callendar, at the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’.
Score from 170 reviews Good
In historic Bridge of Allan, the Royal Hotel features a traditional restaurant, free Wi-Fi and a cosy whiskey bar. The Victorian hotel is just a 10-minute drive from Stirling.
Score from 183 reviews Good
Built in 1854, this hotel was once the High School of Stirling. Less than 10 minutes’ walk from the city’s historic castle, it has an AA Rosette-awarded restaurant and free parking.
Score from 415 reviews Very good
The total environment, including the surroundings and interior decor were delightful.
Nothing of significance. But the coo0ked breakfast was a bit cool and could perhaps have benefitted from a hotter hotplate in the kitchen.
Roman Camp is in the lovely town of Callander so near lots of interesting places in the Trossachs. Take a stroll through the pretty gardens and along the river bank - very peaceful. We had a delicious dinner one night in the restaurant too.
We found the wifi wasn't consistently available in our room but excellent in the lounges.
The hotel maintains a genuine air of a bygone age and feels more like a country home than commercial hotel. Beuatiful location with lovely gardens yet still within walking distance of the town centre.
The room (The Studio) was quite small, particularly the bathroom.
The hotel's individuality with real character makes you feel like yhe stay is an experience. The staff are ready to helppolite without bring intrusive. It is worth a walk around the grounds before / after eating. We decided to have afternoon tea for a change instead of an evening meal- you need to be really hungry as it was extensive/ service excellent and the quality of food divine . would definitely recommend. There was a small wedding taking place the day we were there- however the staff remained attentive. Excellent breakfast served until 9.45 am so very relaxing and a great finish to our stay.
My mattress was a bit too firm for me but just personal preference.
We had the Yellow Parlour room, very large and confortable. Beautiful gardens. Nice staff, great breakfast.
The bathroom, two small steps you might miss. Kind of awkward shower.
Breakfast was not really very good value.
Very friendly reception, excellent breakfest, very quiet location with comfortable room and bed. Suffficent parking space and nice garden.
It's an old house with long, narrow, complicated corridors and stairs. Everything is a bit dark inside.
The public rooms
Our room in need of refurbishment
Beautiful hotel set in glorious grounds, just a few minutes' walk from the centre of charming Callander. The library and sitting room were lovely - we enjoyed a relaxing whisky, reading our respective books, looking out over the river as the sun set. The restaurant is fabulous.
Food was good but service in bar needs more experienced staff.
Hotel has a great feel and look. Wonderful gardens near the river and walled garden. Impressive common areas, lounge dining room and library. Room ambience (Yellow Parlour) was great.
Shame that its not really dog friendly. We couldn't take our dog anywhere but the room. Cuisine pretends to be Michelin starred but sadly isn't. Bathroom needs light at mirror and hot water to run a bath took about 30 minutes and toilet wouldn't flush. TV should have Sky etc
The hotel is amazing. Our room and bathroom were clean, spacious yet cosy and beautifully decorated. The public rooms make you feel as if you have stepped back in time, loved the open fireplaces. The grounds are wonderful, loved walking through them and down to the river. The meals we had in the restaurant were superb. The service was friendly and first class with great attention to detail. I would thoroughly recommend this gorgeous hotel to anyone!
The 4 course dinner ead exceptional although at £55 a bit of a shock to the system. However every course was cooked beautifully and served exquisitely. Could not be faulted.
The lighting in my bedroom was very poor impossible to read a book in bed. Same in the restaurant.
The quiet, the river, the country manor setting transporting you back in time. Excellent location from which to explore the Trossachs National Park , the Stirling Palace ,the Sunblane Cathedral, the Drummond Castle Gardens in Crieff and the Scone Palace in Perth. Short walk to the centre of Callander.
The price of the fixed 6 course menu in the restaurant is exorbitant and in no relation to the quality. Breakfast only average at best. Suggest dinner in the Callander Meadows instead which was excellent and reasonably priced.
Beautiful gardens and grounds. Lovely building and great location.
The hotel is very dated and in need of refurbishment, carpets dirty, the room had a fusty smell. Breakfast in the morning was very disorganised. Our cooked breakfast was brought to is before our tea and orange juice, then we were offered croissants after we had finished! And the waiting time was ridiculous! Very dissapointing! Very over priced and NOT 4 Star!!!
Excellent and homely with a very big touch of opulance, great staff and a wonderful experience. Thank you
Elegant. Felt special
Excellent restaurant, high standard of gourmet cooking. Delightfull setting and gardens by the river.
Wine while good, is very pricey
Ambiance, garden grounds & breakfast!
Fruit within room were badly bruised and passed there best. Two single beds put together to form double/king!?
Location and the choice of rooms to relax in, it was lovely and quiet, staff were friendly, it was close to everything but secluded at the same time. Our request for a room where mum didn't have to walk to far was delivered. Love the fire and being near the river. Felt we had the house almost to ourselves. Breakfast was lovely, and the two young girls who were looking after service morning and evening ,were excellent.
The pillows in the bed they were lumpy and really unpleasant to sleep on, I also found the mattress very hard but that could be a personal matter. It would have been nice to have more information on arrival about breakfast time, the fact we could have an alternative to the restaurant menu and that there would be limited staff on a Sunday pm although the member of staff who was there was helpful to a point.
quaintness of the building then finding excellent facilities and staff
evening meal a bit costly
Location, rooms, hospitality,food
Communication with hotel prior to visit was patchy I was told by staff on two occasion someone would ring me back and this did not happen
Next to the river
This hotel is well overpriced and could do with updating, although in a nice setting next to the river A shame as so much could be done with a bit of redecorating
Wonderful location & beautiful room. Dinner @ £55 per person too expensive. Important to have lower cost option.
