The Roman Way HotelWatling Street, Hatherton, WS11 1SH Cannock (Show map) Good, Score from 58 reviewsThis modern hotel was built in 1980 to a Roman theme, and is situated on the outskirts of Cannock Chase. With easy access to the highways of the West Midlands, the Roman Way provides an ideal base for your stay. Built in a Roman theme, this hotel has a marble-tiled lobby and classical columns and busts and also has a comfortable lounge/bar offering an extensive range of menus. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere and is ideal for business and vacationing guests alike. The local tourist information offices are very helpful, and there are plenty of local sights, sounds and attraction to keep you occupied while you're there. There the hotel is well located for getting to Birmingham to the south, Staffordshire and the Potteries to the north or a visit to Alton Towers, with easy access to highway M6. Hotel Rooms: 55

Room facilities and cleanliness was excellent. The hotel was very good value. Due to the position of room 101, there was some noise during the night.

We got a really good deal and the restuarant was excellent value. In these times of money worries its good to find somewhere affordable, if it wasnt so reasonable we would not have been able to afford it.

Friendly Staff and well appointed rooms. Check out is impossible before 07:15 so what out if you have an early morning. No breakfast before 07:15 either! If you want room service there are only sandwiches avaialable after 10pm.... No desert.... If you need to leave early make sure they have preauthorised your credit card, or you will be late for your meeting.

Location, cheap The bar, you had to keep going into reception to get the bar man. Also we was over charged as they did take in to account we had book the room through your site.

Staff were friendly however, later on my friend was considering a taxi home which would have been £40 and I had paid £30 for my room. We rang the hotel to see if there were spare rooms and told only £55 rooms were available. It seems to me last minute that you would have been better to sell a room at £30 than not sell one at £55. He didn't stay and got a taxi instead. A wasted opportunity as I'm sure he would have ordered breakfast instead? Perhaps giving staff authority to sell a room rather than just saying no. I did ask if he could have the room at a lower rate (22.10.11) but was told no. The only door to the carpark to go out is a fire exit which means you have to walk quite a long way up to reception. I can understand you dont want doors open coming into the building but going out there could be doors with push bars which would close after you go through them but be secure too so the hotel isnt compromised with people entering anywhere other than the front.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Didn't like having to be moved from the resturant/bar area into the reception area at around 11pm. Normally it is possible to remain seated even though the bar has closed.

Very comfortable and clean rooms; quality breakfast; polite, helpful and organised staff; very good value for money especially as get the same double room for less money for single occupancy which not all hotels do.

Not a lot. In fact it's only redeeming feature is location. The receptionist was defensive. The decor was very dated and tacky. The room smelled of mould. The bed was lumpy and extremely uncomfortable.

The location was near to the m6 Our hotel room was not ready at the designated check in time and the check in staff did not apologise for this or offer us another room. There was a wedding in the function suite with loud music playing until after midnight. The noise made it impossible to sleep and did not reduce even after we called reception to ask if the fire exit doors to the function suite could be closed. The double bed was very small and the decor in the bedroom was very dated. The single glazed windows made the noise pollution issues worse. The towels were threadbear with several holes in one of them.

The internet fools you in to believe this hotel is above standard but it is very budget and to pay £55 when its out of a major city (Birmingham) but in Cannock, this is way over priced and breakfast was not included at this price too! THe drive onto the complex...not very appealing! Looked very dull and douwdy! In the hotel room the beds were very old and creaky and the window sills were dirty.

The reason for booking the hotel was for a one night stay to enable my grandson to play hockey at cannock (2day hockey camp). Based on this the hotel location was excellent, the rooms were clean and comfortable and we could opt out of breakfast and arrange this independently. Expensive breakfast for those travelling on a budget. Perhaps a cheaper while not compromising quality would be helpful. The hotel is still expensive for a pensioner travelling on a budget with a child. A suitable discount would encourage me to book again. Or a loyalty discount as my grandson attends this camp every school holiday and we always need a room for one night to enable him to attend both days.

“This hotel is ultra modern, close to local amenities, the staff were very polite & helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable and as it was on the 10th floor the view was stunning, however as this was a twin room I do think that there should have been 2 complimentary bottles of water in the fridge and not one. I would recommend this hotel. There was ample to choose from at the buffet breakfast.” Yvonne, Birmingham |
