A wonderful example of American hospitality in a British setting. Bruce is a West Coast American married to a British woman who runs this guest house with warmth, enthusiasm, attention to detail and and the big hearted, genuine friendliness more commonly associated with the American Mid-West (a generation or two ago ..). Rooms are small but tidy, well equiped (good mattresses), the small items (coffee, cookies, towels etc) in generous supply. Very generous(English) breakfasts ... don't miss the Alsacan waffle. Located in a non-descript area, a 5 minutes walk to the city walls (outside) and the romantiscim of this medieaval city and a good 25 - 30 minutes from the minster (a small stretch by London stanards), but then if you dislike walking, York isnt for you ..

The best thing about Romley Guest house is its wonderfully welcoming proprietor, Bruce. He is extremely sociable and very funny to boot!! I also liked the very comfortable bedding! It was all very good and I have no real complaints but the shower wasn't the best. That would be the only thing I would want improved to merit a second visit. All in all, a lovely place to stay at a good price!

The room is small but extremely clean. The bed has got a very good mattress. It is within the walking distance to the railway station. Bruce is very good and informative. We had an early morning and he gave my son biscuits and cross puzzle to kill time on train. We are foot passengers and done a lot of walk in York.

There was a warm and friendly welcome with introduction to facilities. Times for breakfast were ideal. The host was attentive, pleasant and helpfull and knowlegeable about the buses, taxis etc. Breakfast was fabulous with cereal and toast followed by a full english and then "Alaskan Waffles" for afters which certainly set you up for the day. The trip was to celebrate my grandson's 12th birthday and Bruce, the hotelier, gave him a gift and "champagne" at breakfast time. This was the first time my grandson had stayed in a hotel and this made a big impression on him, it's something he will remember for a long time. The bedroom was a little small but extremely clean with tv and tea making facilities. The beds were comfortable and extra pellows and bedding was stored in the room so you could use it without having to go and ask for it. I would have preferred a separate shower but the shower was over the bath and was not easily accessible enough for me having some mobility problems but they may have had more suitable shower facilities had I asked. The rooms were warm and the area was quiet. We had a very enjoyable stay, nothing was too much trouble and we would certainly book again in the future. Donna and Jordan

Bruce, made us both so welcome. He was such a frendley person nothing was to much troble for him. Breakfast was also very good. The breakfast room could do with a little bit of back round music, because it was oh so quite.

Bruce, the proprietor is the friendliest, most informative and genial of hosts. With his wife Rosemary, they offer a great B & B accommodation in York. His local knowledge is really informative, and you know from the very start that you are in for a great weekend. The full english breakfast comes with multiple choices and with added extra !!! The Great Alaskan Waffle !! A wonderful experience ,also the Choice of "Ultimate hot chocolate" but not for those watching their weight !!! I found the flight of stairs a small challenge, as I have some difficulty with stairs, but on the whole, It is manageable for a limited mobility person. Buy having requested a low floor. That is what we got

Very good location. Good information from owner. One of the 3 rooms we used was very small with a very small wash basin. The toilet and shower was on the landing and seperated bij steps. The other rooms had shower in the room.

Staying at Romley Guest house is a wonderful experience - is a place that transforms in a home away from home - the owner and host Bruce will make you smile and will give you the insider information about York and how to make your stay there unforgetable. The house more than 100 years old will make you feel the city vibe even more . The thumbs up for Bruce and Romley GH - we had an wonderful stay there !
