Romley House is small, in a beautiful quiet location, 5 minutes from the city walls. The room was clean and comfortable, with large windows and a very new bathroom. The stairs are very narrow. The owner Bruce is very welcoming and friendly. Having said that Bruce (the owner) is very welcoming and friendly, he can be a bit too friendly, especially in the morning before having had coffee!

You will have a new friend when you leave. Bruce is fantastic as a guide, chef and host. The rooms were not lavish, but you felt as if you were staying with friends. there was plenty of not water and nice little extras in the room. the location was perfect and the entire house is smoke- free. We take away very good memories. Thanks for the warm hospitality!

The Aging Alaskan(tongue-in-cheek like when I said we were 'young') was so hospitable and accommodating. He really went the second and third miles for us. 11/10 The twin room was a bit of a tight squeeze for us and all our luggage!

Excellent value and within 10 minute walk of city centre. An email from Bruce made us feel welcome before we had even arrived and nothing was too much trouble for him. No negatives about this place.

My girlfriend and I were given a very warm welcome by the proprietor, an extremely hospitable Alaskan gentleman who generously provided us with extensive advice on how to make the most out of our weekend (and budget) in York as soon as we arrived. An unexpected surprise was that every breakfast was accompanied by an Alaskan waffle, prepared by the proprietor whilst wearing an assortment of amusing aprons. Usually one does not expect the guesthouse to be the most memorable part of a trip, but I can honestly say that it was on this occasion! We would certainly stay again.

The Manager gave me a very warm welcome, there were lots of extra touches which made it very comfortable and as if you mattered. I am hoping to return with a group of friends later this year. Would prefer en suite but not big deal for the price.

I spent 3 nights in Romley Guest House and they were great. The room and the bathroom were kinda little, but in line with the description and with the price paid. The owner is extremely kind and nice. If I will ever return to York, I will absolutely choose this guest house again.

The Guest House was excellent. From the moment we arrived & were greeted by this big friendly man(Bruce) in his bright yellow hawaiian shirt. He explained everything we needed to know & gave us a map & info about all the main points of interest,in a very friendly, entertaining manner. He was like this to the moment we left. Even breakfast was entertaining,he can't do enough for you.The breakfast choice was excellent, the Alaskan waffle is a must. We will definitely be back.Brilliant....10/10

Bruce, the host, lives up to his hype, he is a true gentleman who makes you feel very welcome and can tell you all the places worth visiting in York. The accomodation is clean and very comfortable, and fully stocked with everything you will need. A very enjoyable holiday. He makes an excellent cup of hot chocolate and the Alaskan waffle lives up to expectations.

The best thing about Romley Guest house is its wonderfully welcoming proprietor, Bruce. He is extremely sociable and very funny to boot!! I also liked the very comfortable bedding! It was all very good and I have no real complaints but the shower wasn't the best. That would be the only thing I would want improved to merit a second visit. All in all, a lovely place to stay at a good price!

The room is small but extremely clean. The bed has got a very good mattress. It is within the walking distance to the railway station. Bruce is very good and informative. We had an early morning and he gave my son biscuits and cross puzzle to kill time on train. We are foot passengers and done a lot of walk in York.

There was a warm and friendly welcome with introduction to facilities. Times for breakfast were ideal. The host was attentive, pleasant and helpfull and knowlegeable about the buses, taxis etc. Breakfast was fabulous with cereal and toast followed by a full english and then "Alaskan Waffles" for afters which certainly set you up for the day. The trip was to celebrate my grandson's 12th birthday and Bruce, the hotelier, gave him a gift and "champagne" at breakfast time. This was the first time my grandson had stayed in a hotel and this made a big impression on him, it's something he will remember for a long time. The bedroom was a little small but extremely clean with tv and tea making facilities. The beds were comfortable and extra pellows and bedding was stored in the room so you could use it without having to go and ask for it. I would have preferred a separate shower but the shower was over the bath and was not easily accessible enough for me having some mobility problems but they may have had more suitable shower facilities had I asked. The rooms were warm and the area was quiet. We had a very enjoyable stay, nothing was too much trouble and we would certainly book again in the future. Donna and Jordan
