The hotel is in need of refurbishment but we found that the bedding was very clean and the room acceptable. The breakfast was very good and the price of the stay was value for the money we paid. We have no real complaints but a definite lick of pain and new wall paper would greatly enhance the rooms

Reception was courteous and,as we had previously booked by email, brief. Our room overlooked the High Street and was fairly noisy until much later at night. The windows were not very good at noise reduction and this may be addressed during the refurbishment. Breakfast was very good. The room temperature was very high and we could not find any means of adjustment.

As stated by previous guests the hotel needs to be completely refurbished. Most of the hotel can't have been decorated for at least 30 years. Our room was very shabby, although the beed sheets were very clean. The bathroom would have been ok if the bath panel hadn't been so shabby. Just a small "fix" like a lick of paint on it would have made all the difference. The bar is closed, which really is not acceptable for a hotel. The staff told us the hotel is completely closing in a few weeks for total refurbishment. Will be interesting to see if it ever reopens again! The staff were very nice and it was in a good location for us.

The staff were very friendly and the breakfast both food and service was excellent. Having always wanted to stay here, we were somewhat dissapointed. Staff were friendly although the bedrooms were filthy. My bed was like sleeping on a bag of bones and I had ome sort of extractor fan outside my window which made a loud buzzing noise all night so sleep was very limited. This could be a lovely bed and breakfast but is just very neglected and dirty.

Great location in the town centre and easy walking distance to pubs/restaurants if you fancy something different to eat. Decent sized room and very quiet when I stayed. Breakfast was very nice. No WiFi and the main restaurant wasn't open in the evening.

The hotel could do with a refurbishment, receptionist did not inform us that Tring on a Saturday night would be busy and we would need to book somewhere to eat, we would have eaten at the hotel but were not informed that the resturant would not be open

The welcome was amazing - warm and friendly. We were given an early check- in. Although the decor of the hotel could be described as 'tired' in places, we loved it. Our room was spacious and full of character. I chose the hotel as a romantic break for my wife and I - it was perfect. We ate out in the evening by choice, but enjoyed a wonderful English breakfast in the hotel. The location too was perfect for us. It offered all the choice we needed without having to drive. We will definitely stay at the Rose and Crown again. I would recommend it without hesitation.

The hotel occupies a very attractive historic late Victorian building and it has been modernised to make full use of historic features like the grand staircase and bay windows. We had a big, comfortable well decorated room with a view over the parish church. The breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked. We liked the location at the centre of this small country town with shops cafes, restaurants, footpaths and parks all close by. The hotel is due for further modernisation and this showed in a few respects. The bathroom was in excellent working order but showed a few "cracks". There was no restaurant as the kitchen is to be redone. Nevertheless we had a very good weekend there.

Central location in Tring with on site free parking.Room was clean.Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel seemed to be in need of some attention.Widow frames were rotten in our room and covered in a dead climber.Shower was either boiling hot or cold.Breakfast was buffet style and most of it was cold.Tea was brought to our table in an oversize jug not a proper tea pot, presume they had run out? I certainly would not pay full rate for this hotel.

Great location and surroundings. Unfortunately one could hear other people's TVs until quite late. In other words being an old hotel it was not sound proofed.

A comfortable, clean and friendly hotel, excellent location, staff could not be faulted. Although in need of an upgrade I would definitely book again. I have in the past stayed at the sister hotel Pendley Manor but was not impressed by the noise from weekend wedding parties. Such an excellent building in need of a refurb.
