Lisa, the general manager, was fantastic, welcoming and very helpful Great location
No soap/shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom Tired decor Room very hot on arrival - no fan or temp control for towel rail/radiator Hard bed Hairdryer/iron very old
Staff refused to serve dinner Too busy with large party Were advised to eat out.
Old style Quiet They tried to accomodate my request for a rear facing room Plenty of parking
Uncomfortable bed Taps were a bit dirty
This lovely hotel had so much charm! Beautiful paneling and beam work :) The staff were wonderful; we arrived before check in so they held our bags, pointed us towards a nice restaurant for lunch and suggested a few sites to check out around town.
Understandably, the floors are old and creak very loudly. When anyone above us walked around it wold wake me.
Its location is excellent. Shops and restaurant and railway station are within walking distance. The castle is just opposite the hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is very old and refurbishment is needed in the common areas and in the room. The facilities in the room are also very old and some are not working properly. The toiletries and box tissues were not replenished always. However, these were rectified immediately on request.
The staff were helpful.
The bed was uncomfortable and the room wasn't very nice.
The old world atmosphere
Good location, ample parking
Hotel is tired, needs updating. My room was very noisey due to noise from people walking up and down the corrider. It's an old building though which does tend to mean the noise travels so not too surprised.
Breakfast to expensive Bed was to small and soft
Pleasant staff .good position and easy parking
Lighting a bit dim in the bedroom. View outside the window was to a derelict garden!
Right in the high street but rooms set back so that they are not noisy. Comfortable beds. Clean and friendly
Breakfast expensive and not included in room price
The location was perfect for the function we were attending and the parking was good.
The rooms were too hot and adequate but rather dated although we appreciate that it was a historic coach house
The entire shower area needs a thorough cleaning particulary the footwell
Waiting staff were really nice at breakfast. Lots of free parking. Relaxing atmosphere in bar/restaurant.
Rooms urgently need new window frames they are knackered. Decor was not very professional and tired. Poor signage on arrival. Difficult to find room as hardly any signs. Some reception staff not very helpful.
Lovely old building, rooms a good size, bed clean and comfortable
The whole place felt and looked very tired and dated. Our room (14) was just at the top of the stairs and looked as though it needed quite a bit of money spent on it - en-suite had cracked windows and nasty smell coming from the bath
Great location, lots of free parking. Friendly staff
Rooms are very tired. Shower was falling off the wall. WiFi was very intermitant.
Everything was horrific.
Creeky floorboards - its a very old building!
I tried to get the remotes to switch on the TV but without success - 2 remotes and only radio sound. Pity.
We stayed one night as we were attending a wedding in the local area. The staff were lovely and helpful especially Lisa who was there to check us in and out and was very polite and friendly. All in all a lovely hotel in an interesting building with great staff.
The rose and crown hotel was a great place to stay, the staff there was friendly, approachable, and helpful during the visit. The location was right next to a main road and it was still possible to have an exquisite nights sleep with marvellous comfort for the individual overall a really enjoyable stay highley commendable
The staff was great. They helped me bring all my luggage up to my room. And when I missed breakfast brought me some tea and toast.
The showers are very, very hot and it is hard to control the temperature. One of the rooms did not have a working phone so I had to be moved to another room. The floors are really creaky and loud. It is an older building and close to a very busy road.
The staff were pleasant, the room (Single) better than I expected, with good facilities overall. The bed was comfortable, and the lighting was good. I liked the chance to have windows open, and the double glazing I found fairly effective at night. The towels and bedding were clean, and it was nice to have complimentary toiletries.
The bath was very grimy - it looked as though someone had put scouring powder all over it and forgotten to wash it out, but it could just have been ingrained soap scum - and I had to clean it out before use, using the shower cap package for lack of anything else! By the time I'd finished, the bath gleamed, as it should have done initially. The over bath shower failed to work, because the connector with the bath taps did not stay in place. The key to the room door was very stiff. The pelmet was falling off the rail on one side, and one of the tie back hooks was falling out of the wall. The fire procedure instructions on the back of the door were almost illegible. Something as vital as this should be displayed clearly and prominently.
Downstairs is better than it was , but could still do with improving .
Staff not really very welcoming or helpful , rooms on a slope , no aircon, too warm in rooms for summer, bathroom too small , far too expensive for what you get, outside space needs improving , as does the car park , very shabby.
The location (a fairly short walk from the station). We got a quiet room facing the back.
Everything's fairly basic, and the price (90 pounds) seemed a tad high. The staff insist on taking your credit/debit card details on check-in as security, even if you offer a cash deposit instead (which I always do). Personally, I find that both rude and inconvenient (having a strong preference for using cash wherever possible).
Location was excellent
Rooms were too small. Floors were extremely noisy. No ventilation so had to open windows which meant no sleep at all.
