This Victorian hotel overlooks the scenic Royal Tunbridge Wells Common and is a 5-minute walk from the historic center of town.
Score from 350 reviews Good
Comfort, and the staff. The room was very clean. Internet was free throughout our stay.
We thought the breakfast very overpriced and opted against taking it
The room and the en suite were very comfortable
I had not been told when the booking was made that I would need to be in possession of the card used to make the booking. I had stated I would be paying in cash and the hotel had the credit card details of the person who had made the booking on my behalf but on checking in after a very long journey things were made very uncomfortable for me regarding payment even though I had more than enough cash to settle the bill as arranged.
The free wifi and the shower
Could not turn off heating bathroom rather dated
Everything was old and a bit grubby
Not a lot
No S&N Spitfire beer in the bar - not supporting the local ale! Needs an elevator, as the stairs & long corridors can be difficult to negotiate with larger suitcases.
Comfortable room; center of town location; easy to park.
In Annexe constant cold showers, tired furniture, heating choice either full blast or off, view from bedroom window of hotel back garden discarded bath &rubbish. Such a shame for this old hotel as with investment of money could be wonderful.
Staff very friendly and helpful, central location for Tonbridge.
Good position with view of Tonbridge Castle. Bus stop right outside door . Helpful staff
friendly and well positioned
Cleanliness overall was rather poor. The bathroom was shabby and in need of an upgrade. Breakfast was vastly overpriced and tiny portions. We were in the area for my mother-in-laws funeral but will stay elsewhere when we return to the area.
The room was very spacious and the bed was huge and extremely comfortable.
Nothing bad... Water pressure on shower was a weak ... that's about it .
Location was great .. asked for a shower & we got one.. lovely biscuits & friendly staff .
I couldn't connect to wifi and my room was slanted which was fun when drunk
Most of the reviews were poor or bad but my room was lovely and clean and I had hot water and cheap for the night I stayed i would come back again
The shower took a very long time to get hot. I thought the hot water had run out. I had to wait at least ten minutes, if not longer. The plug socket to the lamp in my room was hanging off of the wall. I was worried about using it. The curtains did not meet in the middle when I pulled them and I could not hang them as there were no hooks.
It was central to town. The staff were pleasant and helpful at reception and at the bar.
I was woken up at 6am by the highly excessive sound of metal cages being pushed or pulled through the cartway under my bedroom window and, again, at 7.30 am by the clang of metal barrels being delivered to the hotel/pub I was staying in.The night manager/barman/receptionist seemed to confuse his monitoring of the times of my exits from, and entrances to, the hotel with HEALTHY interest, or even friendliness and the voicing of his thoughts, out loud, with conversation ...
The helpfulness of the daytime Receptionist
Floors very uneven, small step up into bathroom no warning sign, door latch did not fit well although still able to lock the door.
Free wifi, clean room.
The pillows were uncomfy and could have been better.
Lovely hotel with a huge amount of character. Windy corridoors, nice decor and interesting architecture. Polite staff and a posh room.
Rooms far too hot in March and needed a fan. Window in bathroom was screwed down so room steamed up
Great staff. Copious amounts of hot water and good shower! Upgraded room had all the facilities we needed plus large fluffy white towels.
The bed the matress was very uncomfortable due to the springs and the shower could not be adjusted it was either hot or cold.
Central location with reasonable parking.staff who were very friendly and helpfull.the rooms were clean due to cleaners good work.food was excellant .
Had the room right over the front door and the bright lights kept me awake as well as the noise from the traffic and pigeons just outside the window !! Paid £12 more than the rest of our party staying there !!
The room was smelly
Slight problem with water pressure in hot sink tap and shower.
Central Heating was not efficient enough, dining room tables were not cleaned before new guests were seated
The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Particularly Richard who was on reception when we arrived. Lots of character to this hotel, liked the creaky floorboards, a real feeling of history.
Wi fi was non existant - when we enquired were told nothing could be done. For our business use this hotel is obviously not suitable.
