The place had character and was cosy. Better than staying in a chain hotel. As they don't cook evening meal we asked for suggestions and he was more than helpful and went to one of them and he was right it was perfect.

All staff were very helpful and polite. Internally better than the outside suggests.

It was my second time staying here. I visit the town because a friend lives there.
Before my trip, I kept talking to him to plan ahead and find good places to go out to, like pubs. Since it's England, we thought we should find a place serving shepherd's pie. We both barely found a place in a nearby town, serving vegan shepherd's pie. We even asked them if they can make the original version, which contains mutton. They replied saying the menu will have changed by that time.
I told this to the staff at The Rectory via direct messages, they confirmed that they haven't seen shepherd's pie around either, then the manager told me the chef will make the dish just for me and my friend!
The same "hunt" happened regarding cottage pie (that one is made with beef) but the one pub we could find, serving vegan cottage pie in a nearby town, simply agreed to make us the non-vegan version.
Back to The Rectory: Their chef made us portions that were about twice the size of the aforementioned cottage pie from the neighboring town. And it cost us much less than we expected, about half of what we thought we'd pay. We thought we could at least leave a tip for the favor, but no!

A lovely market town with a wide variety of shops and eateries.
Peony and Tonic is a fab cocktail bar and their cheese board is delicious!
Plenty of places to explore for long or short walks in the countryside.

On arrival the room was not clean rubbish was in the bin from previous occupation. Towels were wet and laying on the bed, the glass was used for rinsing there mouth and toothpaste was all around the lip. The bed linen was soiled by excrement of which I have a picture.
The cup was dirty no milk for making hot drinks.
After complaining I was giving another room, only small hand towels and the two cups were both dirty needed washing. Over mirror lights not working in both rooms.
I asked for breakfast at 7am I was told that another person wanted breakfast at the same time so was no a problem.
I was let into the breakfast area at 7-15 when I told the landlord he said it would be put right on Sunday so I went down for a 7am breakfast and left the property at 7-20 with out any breakfast as the breakfast area not open.
I was told I would get a refund so let’s wait and see

Note, shower at Four Alls worked But not adequately.
Note, shower at Four Alls worked But not adequately. They said they are updating showers. Market Drayton, Hodnet, Hawkstone Park, all very close to visit. Plus Canal walk and lanes. Towns old worldly, lovely old architecture. Hodnet ancient village with Manor House and beautiful gardens. Hawstone Park ancient cave system. Canal with locks and boats. Not far from Shrewsbury, an interesting old town. Shropshire has much to offer. Hodnet and Hawkstone favourite, only drove through Market Drayton, didn't have time to meander on this occasion, but did see lovely old architecture.
I'd avoid big busy towns.

Much more rural than expected.
Much more rural than expected. There was a confusing one-way system in the town for a stranger. We only really saw the church, which was quite high but well maintained.
Not having reason to go again we do not plan to revisit.

Lived there 1963-65, this was a return trip to show my partner where I lived. Totally changed, but well worth going round some of my own haunts.
Shropshire Union canal is there, a good stop off town, places to eat and visit.
Breakfast was included in hotel price and was freshly cooked to order. We had an evening meal in the hotel with friends who lived locally and who had previously eaten at the hotel. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Room was a bit of a disappointment - very dated and as the accommodation was in a ‘motel’ like chalet it was a bit damp in areas. It was, however, warm and very clean. Staff were always very friendly and helpful.
Friendly owners, very good breakfast with plenty to choose from. Lovely clean room with all the facilities you need. We attended a wedding at Tern Hill Park Hotel and it was just down the road. The honesty bar is a great idea we loved that. Can't fault the place, will recommend and will be back.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was spacious and comfortable with large screen TV, great en-suit bathroom and a very comfortable king-size bed. All very clean and the full English breakfast was to die for. All in all superb and a credit to Market Drayton👍

Effort made by the owners to sympathetically upgrade and improve the hotel, rooms, furnishing and fittings which has improved the ambience and been extensively improved and made Covid-19 compliant. Excellent
Excellent stay. Room was of a very high standard. Loved all the paintings in the dining area. Hotel was very accommodating for vegetarian and vegan breakfast. Perfect stop over on our way to Anglesey.
The breakfast was lovely and just what we wanted. We travelled for a wedding and the hotel was near the venue. The weather was not very good but, this is England.
