Set in picturesque, landscaped gardens, this regency country house hotel is found in the heart of the Lake District.

Located just a quarter mile from Lake Windermere and a short walk from the centre of Ambleside, the hotel is ideally situated for walking, cycling, sightseeing or just relaxing.

This regency country house hotel was built in 1825 as a summer residence for a Liverpool cotton merchant. The building is grade II listed and retains many period features. Fresh flowers and antiques give the feel of a welcoming private house, where lounges are ideal for relaxing over afternoon tea or pre-dinner drinks.

Rothay Manor is renowned for its warm, comfortable, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, complemented by excellent food and wine. Guests have free use of a nearby leisure club. Families and disabled guests are welcome.

This year, Rothay Manor is celebrating 40 years of ownership by the Nixon family.

We can arrange cycle hire, horse riding, games of golf and have a fishing permit that you can use for free. All our guests have free use of a local leisure club just 1.5 miles from the hotel.

Food & beverage

Breakfast is served from 08:15 until 10:00.
Lunch is served from 12:30 until 13:45.
Dinner is served from 19:15 until 21:00.

Rooms are individually decorated, comfortable and spacious with a 5 foot double bed and comfortable seating.

Area information

Rothay Manor is centrally located for visiting all the major places and attractions in the Lake District. The nearest town is Ambleside, a 5 minute, level walk from the hotel. There are many circular walks that can be made from the hotel.

Take a lake cruise on Windermere (only 400 metres away), Coniston (where Donald Campbell made his speed record attempts) or Ullswater. The homes of Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth and John Ruskin are all nearby.

There is a minimum of 3 night's stay over a bank holiday weekend.

The location was superb - close to the town and lake and there was ample safe car parking. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice - cooked to order. The Rothay Manor is a very nice place to stay - a little expensive for 3 star but generally fair value with a nice touch of class. The shower worked - but more like an overhead tap than a spray - the shower head needed cleaning or replacing in an otherwise lovely bathroom.	8
