We had a evening meal in the hotel which was excellent, as was the breakfast the following morning ,everywhere was clean and tidy the staff were very freindly and helpful The room we where allocated was in the roof space , the room was very good clean and tidy except for the view out which was non existant (a small window in the roof, another small window below knee level ).overlooking a flat roof extention, At breakfast time there was only one member of staff taking orders ,bringing tea, coffee, food, clearing tables, etc, so the service was very very slow, I think that the management could have organised it better

Friendly staff. Although our second visit, it was dark when we arrived and found it a bit tricky to find, could do with better signage/directions on the road/

The location is ideal for us as it is in a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of town life. The building is beautiful, ideal for a wedding reception. The staff were friendly and were interested in how we were spending our time. Wish we could have stayed longer. It was nice to have a lounge area to sit and have a drink and the breakfasts were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Nice surroundings and comfortable country hotel. Not a very varied choice on menu Some of food made from frozen, when it would have been better fresh.

The hotel has a beautiful location and great views. The room was very clean had had good facilities. My room was right about the kitchen and was very noisy with people in the restaurant and then staff talking and tidying up. I hope other rooms are not like this.

Proficient, friendly staff, superb dinner, freshly well cooked breakfast. Our room was at the top of the house, up a steep, narrow staircase on which it would have been difficult to carry a large suitcase. Found it somewhat weird that the window was low in the wall - had to lie flat to see out!

This hotel is simply gorgeous. Staff, food and facilities are brilliant. Location is brilliant - only a cheap cab ride from Penrith train station (a market town which in itself is great - away from tourists, but close enough to access all of The Lakes District by train or car). Can't recommend highly enough! Nothing. There are no lifts, if that bothers you; wasn't a problem for us though.

We really liked the proximity to both The Lakes and motorway. The ambiance of the hotel was wonderful. It kept the features of the Georgian house but also incorporated modern/contemporary design into the room. The layout of the room was very well thought out. Staff were very welcoming and the food was great. The grounds are beautiful and everything was done to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We will now make this our regular place to stay when we visit friends at Ullswater. For a loger stay it would be nice to have a spa.

We were guests at the Risman 50th Wedding Anniversary. The reception and meal were first class and very well orgainsied. Our room (No 7) was fine and very clean etc but the toilet roll holder fell off the wall and we were unable to open the windows - our fault probably. Also, the door lock was very difficult to oped and needs attention. Breakfast was fine but our table was too small for the number of people sitting at it ( 6) and you could have done with extra staff on duty to clear the table after earlier gusts had finished. This is not a criticism of the girls who were on duty and working very hard, rather the staff ratio. All in all we enjoyed our stay, The views were magnificent and the whole stay most enjoyable.

Service and staff were excelent . I found your hotel , very anti invalid friendly .as we had to struggle to climb the stairs to room number 9 .It would have been impossible for anybody with any disability to climb those stairs . I find it very hard to believe your hotel has a rating of 5 star .without ramps at doors , and facilitys for disabled people. Yours thankfuly.

Staff were very accomodating when we were delayed and couldn't get to the b&b until 11.30pm. Breakfast was fine with good variety. The b7b has a lovely position We were allocated the honeymoon suite which had a lovely outlook. However the room and ensuite were dated and worst of all the bed mattress was sufficiently worn that the springs could bve felt through it.Indeed it didnit cover the whole bed surface area.
