We booked this hotel for an overnight stay while driving to Scotland. It is secluded and quiet, with beautiful views towards the Lake District. We had a large comfortable room with all facilities. Good value for money. Excellent breakfast. We were there off season, probably the reason why we found the dinner menu a bit limited.

Warm and friendly staff and good food Staff need to pay more attention to the small details. For example we were charged for more expensive meals which we didn't have and the maid took personal face flannel from the on suite bathroom when she changed the hotel towels.

We stayed at The Roundthorn with our 6 month old and 3 year old. The staff were all excellent and there was even an Easter egg waiting for our son. The restaurant went out of their way to accommodate the whims of a small child and our family room even had a microwave to warm baby bottles. Overall, a great hotel and happy to recommend. The Brown's. Nothing, it was all good.

Friendly staff. Although our second visit, it was dark when we arrived and found it a bit tricky to find, could do with better signage/directions on the road/

The location is ideal for us as it is in a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of town life. The building is beautiful, ideal for a wedding reception. The staff were friendly and were interested in how we were spending our time. Wish we could have stayed longer. It was nice to have a lounge area to sit and have a drink and the breakfasts were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Nice surroundings and comfortable country hotel. Not a very varied choice on menu Some of food made from frozen, when it would have been better fresh.

The hotel has a beautiful location and great views. The room was very clean had had good facilities. My room was right about the kitchen and was very noisy with people in the restaurant and then staff talking and tidying up. I hope other rooms are not like this.

This hotel is simply gorgeous. Staff, food and facilities are brilliant. Location is brilliant - only a cheap cab ride from Penrith train station (a market town which in itself is great - away from tourists, but close enough to access all of The Lakes District by train or car). Can't recommend highly enough! Nothing. There are no lifts, if that bothers you; wasn't a problem for us though.

We were guests at the Risman 50th Wedding Anniversary. The reception and meal were first class and very well orgainsied. Our room (No 7) was fine and very clean etc but the toilet roll holder fell off the wall and we were unable to open the windows - our fault probably. Also, the door lock was very difficult to oped and needs attention. Breakfast was fine but our table was too small for the number of people sitting at it ( 6) and you could have done with extra staff on duty to clear the table after earlier gusts had finished. This is not a criticism of the girls who were on duty and working very hard, rather the staff ratio. All in all we enjoyed our stay, The views were magnificent and the whole stay most enjoyable.

“Dining at North Lakes was a delight. Beautifully presented dishes and tasted as good as they looked. Breakfast was also a feast - especially the sausages!! I must mention the woman who seemed to be everywhere in the restuarant and also in the bar, morning and night. She is a star worker and should be congratulated on the way she goes about overseeing the restuarant.” Margaret, Bo'ness |
