Places to eat are plentiful and excellent cooking, the Beacon museum definitely worth a visit. Parking plentiful but some can be expensive. Roads take a bit of getting acquainted with as streets are a bit twisty turny and some are one way so best to drive with care and know where you going, Whitehaven is a lovely town with plenty to do and see with an amazing amount of history. Definitely worth a visit, but our long weekend not long enough

Whitehaven is a lovely Georgian and Victorian coastal town with views across the Solway Firth to Scotland, and across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man. Although, in common with many provincial towns after Covid, there are quite a lot of empty shops, there are still plenty of nice cafes and coffee bars around the town, and it has two large supermarkets and a leisure centre. The harbour is lovely, and even has its own resident seal right now (June 2023) - Stella. It's easy to get into the heart of the Lake District on the good main roads, so if you fancy a stay in a friendly coastal town away from the main tourist rip-off spots, I'd recommend it. And try the Jefferson's Rum Story on Lowther street, really worth a visit!

The harbour area is lovely.
The harbour area is lovely. There is a real sense of faded grandeur about Whitehaven: it's easy to imagine what it must have been like in its Georgian heyday.
Our first time in the area: if it wasn't so far from home, we'd be back. St James' church is a gem, with lovely people who were welcoming and happy to chat.
You need to be mobile and ready to walk up hills in Whitehaven. A nice place in sunny weather.

Whitehaven is a historic town with port.
Whitehaven is a historic town with port. We were wary of potential crime and evidence was around (triple padlocks, grills ,police patrols and many pubs etc but nearly everyone we engaged with were jolly and friendly . The Tivoli is set in the heart of an historic road that has been revamped but getting a bit tatty (as many towns) over time. Really nice heritage , sports and cultural areas and harbour with some good town/coastal walks and sea air. Overall positive vibes from our stay.

Find it charming and very scenic.
Find it charming and very scenic. Definitely in need of some TLC in places, but the Georgian architecture is fab, and harbour very impressive. St Bees coastal walk is great; Whitehaven itself is a good base for cycling; and with Ennerdale so close, it’s a good place to stay & explore the western lakes, especially given the stunning Cumbrian Coast line, & good pubs / amenities around
The hotel is situated in a quiet area of the town .The parking is great, lots of space .The room was spotless. Staff very friendly helpful and good knowledge of area .It was a dreary evening so visited the bar area which was very pleasant and the food was home cooked, we plumped for the roast it was fab . The breakfast room was lovely, well supplied and the full English was exceptional .Bonus answer NO PETS ALLOWED (HURRAY)
Excellent room, clean, modern bathroom with good shower, fantastic breakfasts, and friendly, helpful and efficient owner. The pool was really nice - a superb facility we used every evening. A self-service bar with extremely reasonable prices was an added bonus. Our family of five had a perfect time here. Whitehaven is no distance at all from the main Lake District area, and was a perfect base for exploring the whole Lake District.
The location is perfect for access to the western part of the Lake District. The hotel was spotless, the mattresses nice and firm, and the bathrooms were incredibly clean. It was quite peaceful and quiet. Rooms are a bit small but I'm probably more used to American-sized rooms, which tend, on average, to be more spacious. The area where the hotel is located is also good for short dog walks for those traveling with a pet.
The Corner House is a small establishment which is beautifully maintained and very well run. The hosts are just that, hosts. They are welcoming, friendly and highly informative about Whitehaven and the West Cumbria area. Breakfast is excellent and there is the bonus of parking available.
The hotel is trying but the state of the town drags it down. We were provided with ear plugs and at 4am we found out why. Seagulls. The noise was horrendous. All properties around were really rundown, as is 90% of the town centre. We’re booked to stay 2 nights. We left after only 1.
Extremely friendly staff, very accomodating and made to feel very welcome. The hotel was very warm and the bar area a nice place to relax and play cards as a family. Very welcoming with our dog as well. This is a great spot to base for the coast and Lake District.
Really nice apartment, we was working at solway Hall, which is across road, so this was perfect for us.
Everything was clean and tidy and communication with owner was great. 💯 reccomend and will stay here again if we return to whitehaven.
Nav & Ian were very welcoming. Our room had a lovely view and was very comfortable and clean.
A very good breakfast with plenty of choice.
Nav had a good knowledge of the surrounding area and places to visit.
We would stay again.
Beautiful location, staff very friendly, breakfast was lovely and even brought to our room. Would go back. Would love to stay in main hotel next time.beds were comfy and lots of parking. A wonderful stay
Great location, just a short walk into Whitehaven; Kathy is a fantastic host and serves a very good breakfast. Room was fine, just took a while to master the shower. All in all a very pleasant stay.
Welcoming hosts and first class breakfast with stunning views over Whitehaven; centrally located and only few mins from town centre ; Good facilities & premises were immaculate.
Location is excellent. Quality of the shared kitchen, dining area and living room is very high. Ensuite room on top floor was perfect. This is amazing value for money
Lovely guest house with a warm welcome.
Beautiful building lovingly restored. Very quiet and the breakfast was great too.
The perfect base for exploring Whitehaven!
