The Macdonald Roxburghe Hotel

Die Freundlichkeit des Personals war grandios. Wir wurden gut beraten zu Reservierungen (wie Restaurants, Ticketbuchungen, Fahrt in die Highlands). Das Frühstück war sowohl britisch als auch international. Wir würden jederzeit wieder hinfahren.

Etwas laut. Busse, Autos fuhren an zwei Seiten des Hotels entlang. Liegt auch an den vielen Baustellen, die momentan in Edinburgh sind, z.B. in der gesamten Prinzess Street. Das Hotel kann dafür natürlich nichts.

Lage des Hotels in der Stadt ist super! Man kann die Altstadt und die touristischen Höhepunkte prima zu Fuss erreichen! Pubs direkt um die Ecke, trotzdem sehr ruhig im Hotel!!! Die Zimmer sind sauber und schon eingerichtet mit Flat-Tv! Einen Action-Point für's Bett: war super groß und total bequem!!! Genial!

Das Zimmer war ansprechend eingerichtet, wenn auch der Platz nur grade ausreichend bemessen war.Das Bad war im Kontrast dazu grosszügig bemesssen. Es fiel angenehm auf, dass das Zimmer und der Trakt des Hotels noch recht neu eingerichtet waren.

Wie in ganz Schottland üblich, knallen die Zimmertüren durch ihre automatischen Türschliesser zu und man wird morgens dadurch aus dem Schlaf gerissen, sobald der erste Gast sein Zimmer verlässt.

Guter Service, angenehme Atmosphäre, ein schönes, altes Hotel

Das Zimmer war sehr sauber und sehr ruhig. Das Hotel liegt sehr zentral. Das Frühstück war reichhaltig. Das Hotelpersonal hat sämtliche Fragen zuvorkommend beantwortet. Die Empfehlungen des Hotelpersonals in Bezug auf Restaurants trafen immer zu.

The huge bed!

Spacious room, very quiet for a city hotel (ask for a room overlooking the central area as although no view it is extremely quiet). Very good facilities and service. Great location in the city for shopping , sightseeing etc.

Food in the restaurant good but very small servings. Be careful of the bill we were overcharged by the restaurant over 2 evenings ! Complimentary papers in the morning should mean complimentary but we were charged for the papers in the bill. It was not made clear the only paper that qualifies is the local Scottish daily.

Very Central Location

No tea/coffee facilities in the room.

Very good location for walking around Edinburgh, nice bar and would liked to try the pool but just did not have time. We have stayed before and will stay again

The hotel was very welcoming. It was clean and had obviously been refurbished recently. The staff were very helpful particularly the two concierges we spoke to. We had no complaints at all.

Conveniently positioned with excellent public transport straight from the door.

This was booked as a 'celebration break' as it was my husbands 50th birthday. This was to include a possible free room upgrade, free pre-dinner champagne on each nights stay and a complimentary celebration cake at the end of each evening meal. The hotel, however, had no knowledge of any of these and as such we were not offered an upgrade, eventually we did receive a glass of champagne each, on the first night only but we did not receive the cake. I was a little disappointed that it was not made to feel like a celebration at all.

The hotel was nice and central for a shopping trip, at the end of a long day it was a lovely room to relax in, a lovely size room and very comfortable.

Close proximity to major attractions

The room was exceedingly dimly it - only two lamps. Asked for extra lighting three times without any response (twice to reception, once to a member of the room cleaning staff). Was told first time that hotel was full and did not have any extra lamps, which I find very hard to believe, given that lamps could break. Third time of asking was assured that a lamp would be in my room by my return that day, which did not happen. We had beverage and toast for breakfast the first morning, which consisted of one piece of toast for a total cost of 13 GBP, an exhorbitant price, I thought. Staff was not particuarly friendly and the area beyond the reception area was very sparsely furnished and unwelcoming. Extremely small elevator, slow.
