With a mature golf course, beauty treatments and impressive selection of outdoor activities, Roxburghe Hotel sits on the banks of the River Teviot. There is also a fine restaurant and spacious bedrooms. The elegant rooms at Roxburghe feature a private bathroom, satellite TV and tea and coffee facilities. Some rooms have four poster beds or log fires, and many have been individually styled by the Duchess of Roxburghe. The wooded golf course is suitable for all levels, and there is also fishing, horseback riding and clay pigeon shooting available on-site. The Beauty Salon features a steam room, and offers a range of treatments. Roxburghe Restaurant uses fine local ingredients, including game and fish from the estate. There is also an extensive wine list, with a selection from the Duke of Roxburghe’s own cellar. Just an hour from Edinburgh and Newcastle, The Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Club is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Scottish Borders. Northumberland National Park is just a 25-minute drive away. Hotel Rooms: 22

Traditional luxury - and much attention to efficient and friendly service. Everything is done to the highest standard. Pet friendly, be it a small dog in your room, or a working dog in the hotel kennels. This wasn't my first visit to Roxburghe, and it won't be the last!

Elegant setting....food was excellent with lovely ambiance. Customer service with reception, dining, and room was exceptional. I prefer a top sheet on my bed and they didn't use them. The bed linen was clean and lovely and this is not a complaint but a personal preferance.

Meals at the hotel are exectionally well prepared and delicious. The room we were offered as an alternative to a couryard room was superbly appointed, roomy and comfortable Initially we were offered a courtyard room which was perfectly adequate but could have been any nice hotle room anywhere and considerign we went out of our way to book into a castle we were initially disaoointed with our allocation of room. Once we were given a room in the castle hotel, the hotel is difficult to fault

The property is beautiful. The room was large and very clean. We did not stay in the main building which was ok for our family of 3. Golf was amazing. We did not fish but saw a lot of them caught. Wish we had more time to enjoy the other activities. The food was great. Nice service. The eating area was not good for conversations or comfortable dining. The tables were too close together. It was impossible to have a conversation at our table without including the entire room. Some light background music would help. We talked to other guests and they said the same thing. It was ok for breakfast but not acceptable for a gourmet dinner.

The friendly staff add to the old-world charm of the country house which when we first visited many years ago was called Sunlaws. The whole place and estate is timeless and each visit there is a pleasure. The golf course is a gem and my son and I revelled in it. It is immaculately presented and a great layout. Maybe - just maybe - the positive attribute of 'timelessness' has yielded to the negative aspect of the accomodation and public rooms feeling a bit jaded or in need of refurbishment. It would be a pity if the hotel were to lose its genuine sense of history of course, but I think some money needs spending on it judiciously, to smarten it up again. We know the family take a pride in providing a good Roxburghe experience, but somehow our visit this time didn't have the same wow- factor as in the past. Sorry !

Excellent food, wide-ranging wine list and beautiful setting. There was an error in the directions on the hotel's website which was pointed out to them.

Our stay at this country house was lovely. Personal touch and like being in your very own country mansion!! Same staff most of the time and very personal touch. We took our dog and he enjoyed fabulous walks around the beautiful 18 hole golf course. No cars no noise just pure nature and tranquility. Lovely walks along the River Cheviot. Views from every angle. Sad to leave but returned home totally refreshed and chilled. If you live in outstanding countryside already then this will be nothing out of the ordinary for you.

Having a laugh with our friends from Whitley Bay! We were meeting friends from Whitley Bay for lunch and we had driven down from Edinburgh. We checked in at the reception and left our cases until our room was ready. In the meantime we ordered coffee and drinks in the lounge. The coffee came and was undrinkable (strong treacle-like). The seating in the lounge is "tired" and needs replacing as we were almost sitting on the floor! At lunch we experienced very poor service with a mix-up with the sweets which never met our requirements as Cranachan. A sweet was produced which seemed to be just taken out of the freezer. To crown that we were given a drinks bill from the waiting staff which wasn't ours. After lunch we were given keys to our room which was in a cobbled courtyard away from the main hotel (we hadn't been told that we were in another annex and not the main building). This was difficult for my wife as she was wearing light clothes and high heels. There was no connecting passageway to the hotel and it was driving rain & a galeforce wind. The room was small and the connecting walls were paper thin. Other guests arriving back in the evening were loud which interrupted our "peace and quite". On checking out we were given our bill which included a bottle of wine which we did not have! No, I won't be returning to the Roxburghe Hotel in future. Some friendly staff, others obviously required training as they couldn't get the bills and orders correct. Room Tip: Check you bill and request to see your room first
