staff were friendly room was comfortable
food was not available in the evenings unless there were several guests and one day when I was the only guest the room was not cleaned or serviced. I was locked in to the hotel and had to get out via a fire exit, did not get breakfast and could not gain access back into the hotel to collect my belongings needed for work. I did not even receive an apology from the manager and talking to some of the staff it is not the first time this has happened as Sunday night is his drinking night.
Staff were especially helpful in recommending local restaurants in walking distance as we did not wish to drive any further that day after 10 hours on the road. Also amazingly good with trying to satisfy my difficult dietary needs at breakfast. Fantastic staff.
Tight corridors and stairs made transit with large bags difficult.
The hotel was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful.
Try finding the place in the dark.....the signs are not very well lit.
Room is clean, Host is helpful and friendly.
Heating system was making noises all night, no double glazing and the windows did not close properly, traffic noise all night from the main road combined with the noise from the heating system meant very little sleep
The fact that they have a bathh as well as a shower.(En-suite)
Very friendly and efficient staff. Very good value all round. Close to gateshead and newcastle centres. 24 hour reception.Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
clean warm rooms,large bathroom
creaky floorboards, kitchen fan noise in morning
Desperately needing some TLC, but at £75 for a triple room I was not expecting the Ritz
I travelled by car and was thus mobile. The location for me was pretty good to get to the city and Theatre Royal, though can't say anything about public transport. There's a number 100 bus it'll that goes past it. I decided to join the "locals" in the resident pub downstairs and had a fantastic time! Bar staff is lovely and cheerful. For the weekend I stayed this was the cheapest deal in Newcastle at £40/night for the single room (Philippa).
As mentioned before by others, the facilities are dated (think peeling wallpaper and pink bath tiles), but otherwise clean for their age. If you're looking for chrome and glass you won't be happy here. Also, the hotel is right by a major road and the windows hardly keep sound out. Consider bringing earplugs. The pub gets frequented by locals and the car park seemed to be taken up by cars not necessarily belonging to hotel guests. I would say this isn't really a place for families with children either.
No evening meals
Staff very friendly not to far from town and breakfast good
man on door when we arrived with very friendly and funny. When in bar all guests spoke and had fun, Was a very friendly and nice hotel. Defo come back again.
nothing that i didnt like
Friendly staff! Adequate parking. Food available on site (not expensive) Breakfast very nice. Fast free Wifi (18 mbps) freeview TV.
Only 2 three pin sockets in a twin room (and one is used for the TV) In need of an update. Thin walls. You would be mistaken thinking it was dirty due to the dated decor, however it wasn't dirty. Beds very soft. You could opt to stay at the sister Hotel across the road (Rowers Hotel) I found the rooms much more comfortable, the breakfast equally nice but memory foam double mattresses made for a much better nights sleep.
Friendly staff, good price, good breakfast
No shampoo in shower, no Sky Sports on the TV in the bar(a must for any pub or hotel).
The warm welcome by the staff ; the lovely four poster bed how close it was to the metro centre for shopping & newcastle city centre and price for room not to expensive also motorway connection onto a1 not taking other peoples reviews at face value it is a good value for money hotel
Must say the taxi prices a bit steep for such a short journey to the metro arena over £6 think I will walk next time
The location for travelling on to the north, the friendliness of the owner and the delicious breakfast.
Bed was a little uncomfortable
Breakfast only served till 9am on Sunday......bit early.
The breakfast area was lovely and clean!
Decor throughout the hotel was terrible, a bit stuck in the 80's!
staff are lovely ,chatty, friendly and jovial, great pub too , traditional with a modern twist here and there , very nice
constant noise from the road that starts around 3am also an intermittent noise that sounds like a tumble dryer with a brick in it ! Dodgy fan on air con ???? No good if your working nights, my brain was frazzled by the time I left , I cancelled my 7 day stay and got a full refund after a stong demand
Fab staff good breakfast good location
The bedrooms need updating bed was terrible
helpful staff. clean room and no problems
Location, availability of off road parking and price.
Narrow staircase, no lift and some heavy doors to pull open
The kebab from down the road
The noise from other guest going on from 10pm till 430am when we decided to leave as was no point staying as we couldn't sleep
This hotel is exactly what you pay for.. £60 per couple bed breakfast and parking so close to city centre what more can you want! Yeah it's a bit old fashioned BUT extremely clean and the staff can't do enough for you! Stayed here to go and see Paolo Nutini at the Metro Arena, about a 5 min taxi ride away could of walked but we being girls had heels on so it was a no no and it's on the other side of river I would say it's a 10-15 min walk. The breakfast was lovely on the morning full English, cereal, toast, juice tea coffee etc. Service was excellent throughout and a lovely little bar for a few drinks before the concert which was very cheap aswell!
Creaky floor boards in bedroom with a hangover weren't great... Other than that nothing!!
