Room was excellent and the food very good
Bit of a wait for food
staff were very helpful and the food was excellant.
Buses outside the hotel, Breakfast excellent, very good shower, coffee making facilities in room, TV
High tea, food not brilliant, place could do with a lick of paint.
Hospitality was awesome Food was very good
Should have washed the kittel and cup with soap water
Food was excellent and value for money. We left at 4am so didn't get the chance to sample breakfast however were supplied with a packed lunch
No light in toilet and by the time we discovered the staff had left
Friendly staff, clean rooms and great meals. The building was old with some faults but cleanliness and attention to detail amazed us during the whole stay. Shared bathroom and shower were clean and adequate. Amazing value for money.
WIFI didn't reach our room very well. Also some traffic noise leaked through old windows.
Excellent breakfast and evening meal
The Property is in middle of nowhere. No local shops around. and Edienburgh is 30 Miles away if we one wants to see it. Breakfast was not a buffet it was on order.
The hospitality is excellent. Its not 5 star hotel but there was everything what me and my friends needed. The breakfast was great and the stuff had a fantastic sense of humour. Great prices. I recommend!
We ended up not staying here because the place was dirty, smelly, run-down, and unhygenic. We walked in and found a bucket of kitchen scraps, half-eaten food, sitting on a table right in front of reception desk. The smell of the place almost made us vomit. We tried to cancel our reservation, and there was no one available to talk to until after 1 p.m., by which time we had found another hotel. Then we were charged as a no-show, even though we tried to cancel. To be fair, we complained to booking.com, and we were refunded 1/3 of our night's stay. I think we should have had a full refund. All I can say is don't stay here, go down the road to the Strathearn. It will cost you a very little bit more, and you will have a clean room, great food, and very nice staff to deal with.
We liked nothing about this place and could not stay here once we went inside and saw and smelled the conditions in the hotel and restaurant.
Friendly, helpful staff, good meals / breakfast
room clean,bed comfortable.
tv didnt work.not many staff.
Bar was lovely, but arrived late and went to meet people in town. Bed was clean, but whole place very dated, stepped back in time to early sixties.Needs a severe make over.
Exterior look of building is a bit grim. Breakfast cook was in his slippers and non attentive. Watching morning tv at far end of bar, but didn't see him till I had been there for fifteen minutes.Orange juice warm in open jug on table.Black pudding cremated, cheapest frozen sausage scrambled egg like rubber (nuked)boiled mushroom full of water. Shower door hanging off as screw missing at top hinge.
Excellent food. Very comfortable beds.
The outside of hotel is in serious need of a coat of paint and a tidy up. The hotel looks derelict and gives a seriously bad first impression.
The food here was amazing we had an evening meal and even though there was a wedding on the staff were great food excelkent
Too much furniture in the room made it feel cramped and had to go in the hall to get Internet connection
Bedroom clean and comfortable meals lovely
Windows didn't close properly
We really appreciated the hospitality of Alan and Catherine and had a great time, they were really helpful with bus timetables and information about the area, we loved the food and they cooked anything we asked for that was not on the menu.
The staff was nice and Courteous. They answered any questions I had and did anything possible to make our stay pleasurable.
location and views
meals were not as good as i thoght would be, poor brekfast
We were upgraded to room 1 on arrival... I'd have hated to see what the other rooms were like. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Place is like fort knox if you happen to be out past midnight. Requires 4 keys to get to your room and you need to lock the door behind you. They also alarm the door to the rooms so you have to take an alternative route. It's operated more like a B&B opposed to a hotel. Shower head holder was broken and towels were stained. Place required serious TLC. When leaving on the Sunday there didn't appear to be any staff going about and we ended up having to hunt down the cleaner to hand our keys in. Free WiFi couldn't be accessed from our room.
The quirkiness of an old building. Hard working staff were on hand to help throughout. Close proximity to the Fife Coastal Path.
We stayed at the Royal because we were attending a hen party nearby and were looking for somewhere cheap to spend a few hours sleep. It served its purpose. However if I was staying there for a weekend break I'd be sadly disappointed.
It has a very shabby exterior and the inside is very tired and smells of chip fat. The outside door to the reception area had a boarded up window and the bathroom towels were in tatters! That said, we received a friendly welcome and the beds were comfortable.
not a lot
most, the room was in need of decoration, the window was jammed open with a plastic bottle. it was noisy and the towels were torn. When I tried to leave in the morning all staff had gone and I was locked in and had to force the back door to get out
room was neat and had everything we needed
outside of building doesn't look very inviting, almost no WIFI and bad tv reception
got to watch the telly.
didnt like hw we had to be in by a certain time, we werent allowed a key and to come in and out as we wanted.
