Score from 106 reviews Very good
We were impressed with all aspects of our stay, reception, room decor and en suite. Food at the reception we attended was exceptional, both the 3 course meal and evening buffet. Breakfast was equally good, a very varied selection and cooked breakfast bar well stocked and appetising to look at.
The only thing our large party of brothers, sisters and their partners was the lack of parking facilities posed problems as we had travelled from Dorset.
The wedding breakfast in the Ball Room was excellent, service, food, atmosphere - brilliant evening.
My room 3-1 was not worth £95 a night, it was tired and shabby. I stay in many hotels for work, city locations too, far too much money for the standard.
The hotel was clean, the staff I met were helpful and friendly my room was very nice, the buffet breakfast was excellent
The lift was dirty and untidily decorated the parking was not at all good but the hotel reception were able to sort that out. Even though my room was very nice I couldn't sort out my shower so had to have a stand up wash but this could have been my fault and even though it was a Saturday they did not have a maintenance man on site
For £95 per night I'd have expected a better room. Everything was there but shabby condition.
cost Location Clean Nice breakfast buffet, very fast service
newer rooms are much nicer (I've stayed in both)
They should improve the breakfast time in organization and in time available.
Wallpaper peeling off walls, drawings on the walls badly cooked food. Disgusting.
All of the above
Within easy walking distance to the historic port and the huge outlet shopping area there's something close by for everyone
The hotel was overheated so had to keep windows wide open as we couldn't control the heat
the selection of hot delicious food ob the buffet breakfast
Getting lost in the cellar where there were building works going on and being lost !
Location, good breakfast, friendly staff. Comfortable bed, lovely room
Corridors and lift leading to the room dated
Excellent location for shopping and eating Room was well equipped, cosy and clean Good selection of breakfast items
Could do with a bit of modernising, even a carpet change would completely change the look of the place Better suited to older guests
Great location for historic boat yard and shopping in Gunwharf Quays.
No sea views and noisy party in function room.
Staff were very polite and helpful. Facilities were good. Breakfast was brilliant!
The reception is easy to access, parking was just outside the door. The room was clean warm and comfortable. The Royal Maritime Club is a short walk from the Historic Dockyard.
Easy walking to Historic Dockyard , Gunwharf Quay shopping , cinemas etc .
Club is a little "tired " , Portsmouth shuts early on a Tuesday evening , most local restaurants had stopped serving by 2000 , it was still possible to get food at the RMC
Location and service, both first class. Ideal for the Historic Dockyard and within easy reach of the town centre and Gun Wharfe.
Limited parking, although we were lucky. Had to wait for breakfast through limited space in breakfast room. However, once in, food was excellent and worth the small wait.
staff very friendly, location excellent, breakfast hot and plentiful
bedrooms a bit tired, but bed comfortable. There were a couple of parties and due to location within hotel music could be heard even though we were on the third floor. Only one lift accommodating 4 people max at a time.
Welcoming reception area with friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast was very good. We had our evening meal in the restaurant which was a pleasant area to eat in. The meal was good and the staff were efficient and helpful. I liked the fact that in spite of being a little dated the hotel was very clean and comfortable. My grand daughter and I both enjoyed our stay.
The decor in the bedroom was shabby and needed updating. The bathroom also needed updating. Tiles were chipped and the grouting needed replacing. The corridors were also shabby and there was a hole in one of the walls in the corridor.
The place was like a cheap youth hostel, but much grub bier. The carpets were stained and filthy, paintwork chipped and dirty. Grouting in bathroom mildewed. Wallpaper hanging off and stained. Nowhere near worth £95 per night.
The friendliness of staff, food, room etc.Everything was great except the very loud music.
The very loud music on Friday and Saturday evening that went on untill 12 and even after complaing on Saturday night the music remaind very loud
Comfortable, welcoming authentic
Late check in
The hotel was in great location very close to the Historic Dockyards and close to Gunwharf. The hotel was very clean, we paid for a superior room which was worth the bit extra we paid . The breakfast was very good plenty to choose from. The rooms and hotel were very warm, all the staff were very friendly.
The only complaint we had was that the shower could do with descaling as not much water came out.
The ambiance of a private club with friendly staff and fellow guests. Well located for visits to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Gunwharf Quay and further afield via rail and ferry.
We found the room quite warm with the window closed and noisy with it open. Not a major issue but it detracted from our Facilities and Comfort ratings.
The pool was uninviting looking even a tad dirty!
