A comfortable friendly hotel, good food and well appointed room
Nice country pub atmosphere, restaurant serves good wholesome, if not spectacular, food, lovely room (ours was room 6).
Could be quite noisy being facing the road but the road is thankfully not that busy. Hot water was not very hot and ran out quickly. Only a few off street parking spaces.
Clean, modern décor, excellent food and caring staff, would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.
Staff were friendly, polite and extremely helpful. Room was modern with a super-dooper bathroom.
Close proximity to both the Lakes, the Eden Valley and the Dales makes for a great location. Lovely rooms and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Food was ok - but not as good as the rooms. Breakfast was great but we have had better evening meals...
Homely , roaring fire. Food Excellent. Room and facilities everything you need. Though our Dogs stayed in the car the whole place very dog friendly with access from the room to the garden
Really comfortable. Great location.
Friendly helpful staff, nice food & a warm welcome
Wifi reception was not very good & slow
The bed was enormous and sublimely comfortable. The decor was tasteful, and the bathroom was superb. The staff were all cheerful and extremely courteous and friendly. The breakfast was ample and delicious. We have decided we will stay again in the future.Would reccommend without hesitation.
Nit picking here. More milk please with beverages in the room. Probably could have just asked, lazy boy !! The steak in the restaurant was good but the meal was slightly overpriced. Why not give a small discount for residents. Just an idea.
friendly helpful staff and very nice room.
Due to high room occupancy, I was allocated the self catering cottage,This was an excellent facility.
No secure car park, however parking is generally available at the front of the hotel or, across the road in the lay-by, a low risk area.
Wonderful welcome for the dogs, room that opened out onto the garden and a thoughtful doggy welcome pack with ball, biscuits and pooh bags plus bowls in case you had forgotten yours! Excellent evening meal and breakfast Comfortable beds plenty of hot water.
The Royal Oak is a first class place for a few days break.
The room was tastefully decorated and we liked the super king sized bed. The breakfast was excellent. Hospitality was excellent and hope the comments below are constructive.
Overall we did not consider it was value for money with the charge for the room. We ate on the second night and would give the meal 6 out of 10 at best. The liver was poor and certainly not calves liver as advertised. The new potatoes were well over cooked (steamed) and tasted awful. All veg was also over cooked, for example the carrots were soggy. We did enjoy the visit but would probably not stay at the Royal Oak a second time, but look elsewhere.
The rooms and food
I would say the bar area needs updating somewhat but other than that fabulous
Room was lovely. Restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was also really good. Really helpful and friendly staff.
Double bed was two singles pushed together. Shower cubicle need a proper clean to remove mould.
the location and room conditions were good although ceilings are low, (we both had to stoop down in the room)
Disapointed with evening meal. Bathroom lighting could be brighter!
We absolutely loved that our accommodation was in the cottage attached to the pub. It was excellent having such a comfortable, roomy beautifully maintained place to stay. The breakfast was spot on and really set us up for the day. The evening meals in the restaurant were very good( especially fish and chip night) The staff were very professional but friendly and helpful too. We would certainly recommend the Royal Oak.
We thought the pub was in the centre of Appleby so the walk into town was a bit of a trek. However, we soon got used to it. Do not like the idea of dogs being allowed in rooms and the taproom. I am allergic to dogs so would hate to use a room where a dog had been.
Friendly atmosphere. Real Ale. Good food. Dog friendly. Comfortable room. Proximity to good, local walks
I have stayed here several times and as always service and quality was excellent.
Friendly staff .
IVE STAYED IN A LOT OF INNS OVER THE YEARS BUT THE OAK WAS I HAVE TO SAY WONDERFUL. I COULDNT FIND A THINNG WRONG. THE ROOMS WERE 5* PLUS, DEFINITELY STAY AGAIN.MEALS WERE FIRST CLASS. ITS A MUST TO STAY THERE, AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE!!!
Room was gorgeous - very well appointed! Food was excellent - great value for money! We dined here 18years ago - celebrating a ' big' birthday , staying at a local b and b - was delightful to return with huge bonus of staying at the inn!
The sense of humour throughout. Well furbished (in an idiosyncratic way). Friendly staff.
Road outside got a little busy at rush hour on a weekday - only a problem if you wanted a lie-in.
Large bedroom opening into little garden. luxurious, thoughtful touches in the bedroom, excellent staff, characterful building
